This place deserves 6 stars! Everything was great! I loved the cornbread and coffee! Great coffee top notch to enjoy the bornbread which was fresh and soft! Yum!!! Then the lentil burgers with gravy came and I lost one to my husband! That was ok tho! The balance of salty kale with garlic sauce and lentil was impeccable! Every bite was yummy! My hisband got Mac and cheese and unchicken salad and loved that as well! He also had delish collard greens! Great place and we recommend to all hungry vegan travelers! COMEHERE!!!

Ten stars. A thousand stars. A galaxy of stars. This place is everything. I am deeply committed to meat, but I crave this food more than any other. EVERYTHING is amazing. We love the«chicken» tenders, the mac and cheese, the bbq pork, the curry chicken… good god, y’all. Get there. Also, my lord and savior Stevie Wonder loves this place so you KNOW it’s good.

AMAZING! I wasn’t sure what to expect but this place is one of the best vegan places. The prices are outstanding for the portion sizes and everything was so yummy. The staff is wonderful and helpful. The curry chicken was really good and so was the Mac and cheese. I personally loved the ginger tea.

When I first heard the name The Land of Kush, I was thinking possibly Afghan food, then I found out it was vegan soul food. Having grown up in the south, I was interested to try vegan soul food. For dinner we ordered the ribs(soy based) and lentil patties as our entrees. The combo meal is the way to go, one main dish with two sides and a drink. For our sides we did the mac & cheese, collard greens, live kale salad, and coconut curry slaw. The BBQ sauce for the ribs was reminiscent of a runny Memphis style BBQ sauce– there was a nice balance of sour and sweet with a touch of pepper and heat. The rib dish was really more of a stew with potatoes, carrots, zucchini, and peppers with the BBQ sauce functioning as the broth of the stew. The next entrée we ordered were the lentil patties. They were the clear winner of the two main dishes. Great flavors and we really enjoyed the crunch on the patties from the the flat top. For the sides I was really impressed with the collard greens and coconut curry slaw. The collard greens were cooked perfectly and while they weren’t cooked with hog jaw, they still had a smokiness to them. Next was the coconut curry slaw– not sure how healthy this one was but it was delicious, definite Caribbean influence. I plan on figuring out this one so I can make it at home. The kale salad was solid, not really large enough to make a meal but it made a good side for the two of us to split. Lastly the mac & cheese, vegan mac & cheese, it wasn’t bad– it wasn’t great either but then I’m not big on mac & cheese. However I was told that the mac ’ cheese was spot on. Because it is vegan, I feel like it just didn’t have the same creaminess of traditional homemade mac & cheese. All in all they do a great job of making soul food that is vegan and healthy. We will definitely be going back to explore more of the menu and try some of the daily specials. Overall I’m giving it 4 stars largely because service was a little slow for the number of people there. But that food tho…

The food was delicious, the prices were great and the portions larger than expected. Great service and environment. My advice for anyone driving here would be to park in the parking garage close by. We parked up the block from the restaurant and our car got broken into and some items stolen.

We walked straight to the register and was greeted with a warm welcome. Once my friend mentioned neither of us had ever been there before, the cashier explained the different meals and specials to us. We both got the Mac and Cheese, greens, and lemonade, but I had the lentil burgers and she had the curry chickun. The food arrived pretty fast and was delicious. I tried some of her curry chickun and that was pretty good too. I’ll definitely be back to try some other things on the menu. Plus the prices are very reasonable.

If you want vegan/vegetarian, this is the only place you should consider. I myself, am not a vegan. But my boyfriend is. I was very impressed with the flavor profiles of the«Chicken» and the Mac N Cheese. I am a very big meat eater, love my bacon, but this was a nice change. The servers are cool and not preachy about veganism at all. This place is a true vegan/vegetarian place. Unlike Encantada at the AVAM which CLAIMS to be vegan, but they serve actual beef, chicken and fish? LOL. What a joke that place is, trust me, used to work there. The Land of Kush should be your only destination if you are vegan or vegetarian in Baltimore. I highly recommend the mac n cheese.

The food is aMazing, as soon as you walk in the smell tells you the food is gunna be lit. I got the drum sticks, Mac and cheese, and corn bread. I’ve been a vegan for a while now and can’t believe this food is vegan. 10⁄10 coming back every weekend. WOW

Land of Kush is a Baltimore staple, for vegans and omnivores alike. Weekend menu is so very on point and the prices are standard for take-out,(Usually spend 30 $ on a feast for two of: drumsticks, cornbread, kale salad, and some tasty bev.) There is no comparison to their drumsticks anywhere in this city. They are so damned juicy. And that juice isn’t high in cholesterol and saturated fat the way most drumstricks are. As a long-time member of the vegan and vegetarian community with my partner, I respect Land of Kush’s mission to come back despite it’s downfall, but there is one major downfall: The negative energy that has been present in the front of house staff a good bit of the hundreds of times we’ve eaten here. It hurts me to know that some people willing to eat an ethical diet will be met with a potential uncomfortable experience. Nonetheless, I recommend Lank of Kush to anyone who asks me, flat out, where to eat in the city multiple times a week because it is unbelievably tasty and will fool the fools who continue to eat flesh. Try it out, ya’ll!

Wow, is the best I can start with. This place is small but cozy. Even on a Saturday afternoon, we were able to get a seat. Love the people working here. They are very friendly. I had the vegan Mac n cheese, cabbage and lentil burgers. This was my first time having vegan Mac n cheese and I’d eat it again. I picked over the cabbage because it was not for me. I just didn’t like the flavor with spicy and sweet cabbage. Now the star of my meal was the lentil burgers. Oh my goodness, these are so good. I really want to hide in the kitchen and learn how they are made. These I could eat everyday. Put my gravy on the side to dip my lentil burgers in and my mouth was so happy. The lentil burgers alone was worth the drive from Columbia, MD. I had the ginger tea but I’ll try something else next time. Too strong for me and I don’t like pieces of ginger in my drink. It was made perfectly but my taste buds could not handle it. Had a great time eating vegan for the first time. I will be back. Love trying new items but I know my order will be lentil burgers.

I tried land of kush for the first time yesterday at the bmore vegfest and it was great! I had the tofu curry, Mac and cheese, ribs and kale salad. I loved the ribs they were fantastic, the tofu curry was ok, I’ve had better. The Mac and cheese and kale salad were also ok. All to say the ribs were so on point and is a must try! Deff will try them out again when in bmore.

I am not a vegan. Just thought I’d get that out of the way. Because I enjoy all meats(except pork) and dairy products, this may have skewed my expectations and experience. However, I’ve had some pretty delicious vegetarian dishes that were absolutely delicious. Unfortunately, I didn’t have that outstanding experience, though. I was looking forward to the Mac & Cheesr based on reviews, but I have to say I really didn’t care for it. It was bland with a weird texture. It was my least favorite item that I tried. The«ribs» had good herbs and spices. A lot more peppers and onions than«meat.» The cabbage had a different herb and spice flavor, too. Although the sweet potato cake is not baked by them, I bought one. It was okay, but it lacked in flavor. Didn’t care for the ginger tea. Service was okay. Maybe I caught them on an off day. I hope that I caught them on an off day.

Land of Kush is a fantastic spot and one of my favorite places for lunch in Baltimore! I’ve gone there for lunch several times and always order extra so I can take some home. I really enjoy salads and their carrot«tuna» immensely.(It’s made of carrots, but with the right relish, really does taste seafood-esque!) Staff are friendly and helpful and the restaurant facility is sparkling clean. I wish they had a few more gluten-free options — particularly mac and cheese wise and GF bread. Parking in this area isn’t so bad compared to many places in Baltimore, but LOK is right near the Metro if you can take it.

This is the kind of food that I love as a long time vegan but I would have been weary of as a new vegan. If you’re vegan, every thing is delicious. The ribs were freaking great – so flavorful. I thought the kale was top notch and would think anyone who likes kale would be happy with it; it was one of my favorite dishes. Potato salad too! YUM. If you’re taking an omni friend, skip the mac and cheese and chick-un salad. We arrived just late enough for them to run out of the most popular dish so I would advise you go as early as you can, because once they were out, they were out. By the time we left, I think they were out of five dishes. The service is slow, but the staff is working hard and keeping a smile all the while. Pro tip: If you’re not going to order a drink there, bring a big bottle of water with ya. I will definitely be back and can’t wait to try every single thing on the menu!

When I first started my journey to vegan, this was the first place that I went. I found it by mistake when I was taking a different way home from work. What I love most about this place is that the flavor isn’t compromised and they really have a lot of options. They definitely have an opportunity in their staffing or training department. They never run as smoothly as I feel they could, but aside from that, the small shop vibe is great. That’s the only reason that I don’t give them 5 Stars. When you are a black owned business, you have to work twice as hard to be just as good as any other place. I wish nothing but the best for LOK. Some of my favorite food in Baltimore.

On my quest to find the best vegan places around Baltimore, I came across this popular restaurant online. It is next to the Hip hop restaurant and it is a bit tricky to find, kind of hidden, if you follow the gps. There was ample street parking around the place. I went on a Sunday night just an hour before their closing time. It is a small place with a casual city ambiance. I ordered a blueberry vanilla smoothie and bbq ribs. The smoothie was good, tasted fresh. It was a little too sweet for me though. The bbq ribs looked nothing like the real thing. It was seitan(guessing), smothered with bbq kind of sauce with red and green bell peppers and potatoes. It was served piping hot and it was delicious. The service was quick, but the guy at the counter looked uninterested. I did not see him smiling or greeting the customers. May be he had a long day and was ready to wrap it up. Anyways, I want to go back and explore their menu a bit more. Update April 12, 2016 — — — — — — — — — – I went to try this place again. This time ordered a combo platter which comes with one main entrée, two side dishes and a 16oz drink(need to pick one from the basic beverages sections, not the smoothies or the fancy drinks). I went with the lentil burgers for the main entrée, rice and vegetable medley and collard greens for the sides and a ginger spice drink. Everything tasted amazing! The lentil burgers became my favorite instantly. They were served with an Indian curry style mild gravy. The ginger spice drink was awesome. It was a weekday evening, around 7pm and the place was packed. The staff were dealing with some sort of issue and I had to wait for a few minutes before I could order. The gravy for the burgers was served in a coffee cup with a closed lid. I assumed that it was the ginger drink and left with the food. When I realized that it was the gravy and that they forgot to give me the drink, I had to go back to get it. It was irritating. I am disappointed with their service.

Heard a lot about this place and couldn’t wait to try. I really love that there is a tasty vegan place where people can have an alternative to meat. This is especially great for the environment and the animals! We got the ribs, collard greens, mac n cheese and the brunch special of pancakes, sausage and scramble. Everything was pretty good. We were almost finished eating when the girl asked us if we wanted syrup for the pancakes. Oh man! We both wished there was syrup but just figured since it wasn’t out, there wasn’t any. So, don’t forget the syrup! There is not a lot of room and it isn’t super nice inside so I would count on picking it up and eating it in the comfort of your home.

I really wanted to like this place, but I just don’t get the hype. My friends came up from PG County and we all went together to this place. There was metered street parking and it wasn’t so hard for us to park right in front of the establishment. We ordered and sat down(the place is tiny!) at the bars at the front of the place and ate. I had the BBQ ribs, mac and cheese, and collard greens. Now I actually really like vegan food, but maybe I had higher expectations because people syced this place pretty hard, but it was just okay. My vegan girl friend was SUPREMELY disappointed(«nuvegan is better»), but that could also be a bit of the PG/Baltimore animosity leaking through. All in all, it was decent food, just not worth the major hype. I’ll go back again to try it with low expectations and see if I change my mind.

Love Land of Kush. It’s a relaxed little spot that’s easy to just pop into if you’re grabbing a bite to eat on a lunch break, between stops, etc, but the food is worth the trip if you’re coming from farther away too. The food is simple, tasty, and hearty. I never leave here feeling hungry. The collard greens and chickun curry would be my favorites on the menu, but the ribs are good too. It’s all good. Oh yeah! If you can handle a lot of ginger, get their ginger tea/beer/brew. They’re the only one in this town that does it right.

After hearing so many good things about this place I knew I had to give it a try. I was in the area one day and had a few minutes to kill so I popped in for lunch. The inside has a few tables but you can tell this is the kind of place most people get carry out. The staff was nice and helpful giving me time to really look over the menu and decide what I wanted. I’m not a fan of the cafeteria style serving with all the food being pre cooked and just scooped out onto the plate but I guess this helps with serving speed and consistency of taste. It’s just not very visually appealing. I decided on the curry chick-un, Mac and«cheese» and collards and it wasn’t as weird as I thought it would be. People that say the Mac and cheese has the same consistency of regular Mac is CRAZY but it was still pretty good to be dairy free. You almost couldn’t tell! The chickun was also pretty tasty to this carnivore so I think they are doing something right. I don’t see me making this a regular lunch spot since I love my meat but I can definitely see myself going back and trying a wrap or one of their smoothies. My only complaint food wise really isn’t even the food. The lemonade I had(which seemed homemade) was a little too tart.

Went here for Christmas Eve dinner while visiting and pet-sitting in Baltimore. Had heard a lot of great things about this place, and had to try a vegan soul food place!(I’m vegan). I tried the mac and cheese, bbq ribs, and candied sweet potatoes. All were delicious! The bbq ribs were on point, from the mouth-watering sauce to the texture of the ‘ribs’. The mac was so rich and creamy, though I wish that the noodles were plain and not wheat noodles, as it gave for a really bready taste. Yams — delicious. The portions were great and the people were really friendly. I’d definitely come back to try the ‘crab cakes’, which are only available on weekends.

The macaroni and cheese is delicious, as are the BBQ«ribs.» My husband loves the jerk«chicken,» and he’s not even a vegetarian! I like their cold salad and selection of desserts as well. Allow me to start by saying that I’m not a vegan, or even a vegetarian. Not even close. But my friend is, so we went to Land of Kush. I’d heard about their amazing crab cakes, but apparently, that’s just a weekend thing. Grrr! Also, I’m not going to italicize the foods that they recreate in vegan form, or use words like ‘faux’ or whatever. I’m also not going to tell you that you’ll never know the difference from the ‘real thing’, because you will, unless you stopped eating meat a long time ago. That said… This place makes wonderful food. You can get the small(aprox $ 7) or the medium($ 10). Each entrée comes with two sides. The medium is three meals for a little guy like me. My husky friend must have been really hungry, because he destroyed his, then sopped up the remaining sauce with their cornbread. In short, huge portions. I had the curried Chicken. My friend had the BBQ. While textured proteins have come a long way, and this place apparently uses the good stuff, the texture of the chicken was a little different, though the BBQ was a little closer to the real thing, texturewise. The curried chicken was wonderful, thick and hearty. I would have prefered the broccoli in it to be a little firmer, but all in all, it was a solid dish. They clearly understand the use of the right spices. I enjoyed it as much as 99% of the real thing I’ve ever had. Spot on. My friend’s pulled BBQ was equally good, though the sauce leans more towards a sweet KC style that I’m not the biggest fan of, but still, solid. We both got mac & cheese and collards as our sides. I never thought I could be so happy with a vegan m&c, but I was wrong, wrong, wrong! It’s almost a meal in itself. I would never have known that no cows were milked to make it. The collards were very, very good… fresh and squeaky. They have a spinach salad in sesame oil that looked and smelled amazing. Ok, here’s my single complaint. I hate sweet peppers. Red, green or yellow, I just can’t stand ‘em. The curried chicken didn’t have them, but the collards and Q did. So I worked around them. Oh, the humanity. You order at the counter, and sit in one of the dozen two-top tables, or the window bar. The place is not about frills. The staff is there to do business, or maybe it was just because I was a new guy, but they ain’t all smiles and ‘how ya doings’. I respect that. So now I’m going to HAVE to go back one of these weekends and try the crab cake. And that spinach salad.

I’ve not totally committed to a vegan lifestyle. I do still eat fish, dairy and eggs. This, however, is one of my favorite places in the city to get a good meal. I’m especially partial to the veggie lasagne… and the collard greens are something special! I’m a pastor in the city and am always encouraging healthy eating among my congregation. To that end, I’ve ordered food for church events and the people love it! I always recommend Land of Kush to my friends… vegan, vegetarian, pescatarian, carnivires… just because the food is that good.

I like this place but the service can be a bit spotty; for example, the cashier wanted to charge me $ 17 for something that should’ve come to $ 12(I ended up not ordering anything that day because she didn’t understand what I meant when I questioned the price) or I’ll order the medium and receive a small, etc. That being said, I still come here at least once a week for the kale salad(it’s really really good). I usually do the grab and go combo(half a chickun salad wrap and a small salad for about $ 6)

First timer here… recommended by meat eaters… Walk in and the staff is friendly… throwing hellos from everywhere… I sometimes get a little intimidated eating in new restaurants especially vegetarian spots… so I went with what sounded good… Lentil burgers, rice and cabbage & Ginger tea Ginger tea was ssooooooooo good and spicy! The lentil burgers we’re thick like real burgers… flavorful and moist… The cabbage and rice we’re too delicious… I think the cabbage is cooked in coconut milk… makes it extra good IMO… Everything was just so good… definitely will be back…

The food here is simple, comfort food in the veganized fashion: feeds your stomach very happily without worries for dairy or meat. Prices are pretty good, and the parking is a breeze. The staff is busy at one thing or another, but not too busy to nicely assist you with your order. Good options for window seating, but not a great view outside, so I can understand why most people mark this as a take-out joint. It does feel a bit squished and is hard to move around if other people are also walking around the restaurant. The menu is what you would expect — collard greens, mac n cheese, drumsticks(!), crab cakes(weekend!), lasagna(weekend), fake meat/chicken, sweet potatoes and smoothies. The dessert selection is why I can only give them 3 stars. For me, comfort food, soul food, should have many happy carbs, but they only have a couple here. So, then the sweet dessert would be a smoothie, which is fine, but… if I am going to have some soul food anyhow, I want it to be all the way with a traditional vegan dessert finale. The raw menu is decent, some kale salad, a carrot tuna salad, sesame spinach and some cucumber tomato salad. A couple other cold sides are available, for those who love potato salad or pasta salad, as is some popcorn. Lots of good choices, as others have said, to please any crowd of consumers, veg*n or otherwise. The food is a bit salty for my taste, and the emphasis on fake meat is not my favorite. The cool entrees are the spinach lasagna on the weekends, and of course, who doesn’t love a stack of vegan pancakes with maple syrup? Vegan brunch enthusiasts delight!(I am hungry typing this review right now…)

This place has a very chill and laid-back atmosphere. Very casual. As you walk in, there is a counter with menus on it. The menu is very…“veganized.” As in you see a lot of usually-meat dishes turned vegan, including bbq ribs, corn muffins, and crab cakes. I got a platter with curry chicken, rice, and collards. The curry on it was spicy and it was seasoned very well. I’ve eaten a lot of imitation meats in my lifetime, and the type of meat substitute they have is very generic, but the other ingredients really shine through. The crab cakes were AMAZING. The texture was very realistic(granted, I’ve been vegan for 1.5 years now and don’t remember the last time I had crab, but.) and the flavor was amazing. It wasn’t super dry, nor was it too creamy with(vegan) mayonnaise. Overall, I was pretty content with the food. The crab cakes were the best thing I had. If I come back to Baltimore, I’ll probably try other things on the menu. but I’m definitely getting more crab cakes!

I can’t believe I have never reviewed Land of Kush. I love literally EVERYTHING here… and LOK, if you’re reading this… please please pretty please make your Orange Tofu again! The mac’n cheese and the Kush BBQ ribs are pretty much what they are famous for and yes, they are amazing. My husband is neither vegetarian or vegan and he really enjoys both of these dishes. But, everything I’ve ever tried here is equally deserving of a shout out: their chickn’n salad wrap, live kale salad, sesame spinach salad, eggplant, yams, collards, and so on. I highly recommend trying whatever special they have that day. I’ve loved everything special and just keep waiting for them to make the orange tofu again! I’m following you on Facebook, Land of Kush, so don’t forget to post a pic when you do!!! Carnivores and vegans alike will delight here.
