Growing up in the South, I once believed that everything had to be cooked in the juices of pork. I mean I ate everything from the rooter to the tooter. So after getting my hair done(ok, getting my haur did) I decided to walk around and and find a place to eat. The fuist spot I came to was the Yabba Pot. It was a vegan soul/caribbean spot and I just knew I had to try it. It was a small intimate setting, although there was room to eat inside. I ordered the kale and citrus ribs(really tofu). OMG who would have ever thought that the citrus ribs would be bomb. I mean they were so good that I believed I too could cook them #EPICfail!!! This place will probably always be my number 1 spot for vegan/vegetarian food!!!

Baltimore need never fear the world’s nastiest faux-tuna salad again! Yabba Pot seems yabba dead– some sort of Italian place going in there. Hope their tuna is better– would certainly hard to make it worse!!!

Wow. I am a straight up carnivore and I love the yabba pot. The food is delicious and honest and I never miss meat in one of their meals. They cater, too, which I love — leek dumplings and chickun salad have won over some very antivegan crowds for me. This is the original vegetarian and vegan friendly restaurant. When your herbivore friends get tired of ordering salad hold the bacon when you go out, treat them to their choice of anything off the menu at the yabba pot.

This place had such great reviews that the first time I was in Baltimore I had to eat here. It was a hassle to find and the parking was street coin meter only. Ok, no biggie. I run in to get change from the restaurant and was met with an empty place but three employees sitting near the register talking. After waiting a bit for the conversation to end while my friends went to sit down, I finally interrupted and got my change so I could start my dining experience as well. My friends couldn’t figure out the menu. There were things written all over the wall as well as food items in warmers. Some fruit drinks were available in what looked like a very old refrigerator that barely worked. We went to the counter and asked the server what she would suggest as it was our first visit and she waved the spoon around and said it was all good. Frankly, I don’t remember what we got — we tried 3 different items from the warmers — and none of it was memorable. I then bought one of their dessert items and it was far too sweet for all 4 of us. I was so bummed. Perhaps it was an off-day for Yabba Pot, or maybe I had expected too much due to other Unilocalers rave reviews. However the experience was so bad that I won’t go back and try again.

I had the«Fried Chicken», rice, some kind of «yeast» sauce and a really good kale/beet/sesame oil salad. The food is great. All vegan, but a little heavy on the soy and oils. I don’t like the concept of food«fakery» but the faux chicken was very good. The place is like a breath of fresh air. Lots of seating, and friendly staff. Decorated in a kind of hippy/rasta vibe, with real paintings on the walls, original wood flooring, and high ceilings. Two thumbs up.

The food was excellent — we were lucky to get one serving of the«ribs» before it ran out.(we got there about an hour before they closed, but within 15 min they were putting all the food away, so we just made it!) The hot side items were delicious, we had things like beans, collard greens, rice, and everything was good. As vegetarians, it is great to see such a variety of great options available.

OMG! This place makes me consider becoming a veg head again.(Sorry in advance to friends and family) I’ve had two out of two completely solid meals here. The vegetarian here is a wonderful mix of down south, Paula Dean y’all cooking and health conscious food. The down south cooking really comes out in the vegetables. The veggies are always well seasoned. The greens and broccoli that came with beef and broccoli were excellent. The corn that came with the fiesta rib almost made me crash my car(I was trying to gobble it down while on the road). The brown rice here is perfect! The pasta salad is sooo good. The meat is as good as it can get. I say meat loosely because it is really faux meat made from starches and gum paste. Such a product, naturally, has limitations. However, Yabba makes it pretty darn believable. I was a vegetarian for nearly 3 years once so I can tell if it’s faux meat right away. However my fiancé was really fooled. To Yabba, thank you, I will come again.

Wow! I had a string of really bad food, then wham… The last few weeks have been awesome. Yabba Pot is nothing less than tasty. I’ve done the vege thing plus a bit of fish here and there for a year or so, and I really haven’t gotten into vegan foods — or liked when i did. Liquid earth is very good, but Yabaa Pot is my new spot! I got the platter with 6 kinds of goodness, and everything they prepared was spot on with texture and especially great flavors. My first time at Yabba Pot,

Went here for dinner with my wife and a friend to try it out. They’re both vegetarians and I’m an omnivore. We got a couple of their sampler platters to try out and the food was pretty tasty. This place is set up differently than I’ve experienced at other restaurants, I wholeheartedly agree with another rater’s experience that it is ‘possbly TOO relaxed’. We had to pick the food up from the counter, bus our own table, get our own utensils. The food itself seemed pre-prepared, but overall it was fairly tasty. The décor is random and the music was too loud, but it was turned down at our request. We had a coupon for the meal which brought it down to a fairly inexpensive dinner for three. We’ll definitely go back but not after exploring the other vegetarian options in the area.

I thought the food was pretty good, and love that everything is vegan. My husband and I split a sampler of 6 of the 7 choices they had, with the 7th separate. I think that came out to only $ 18 and it was more than we could finish. I saw the complaints about there being a long wait and the food being cold, but neither were the case when we were there. The food was served within five minutes, and apparently they used to make it in advance, but it’s now made-to-order, so it was fresh and the food that was supposed to be warm or hot was. I really liked their pasta salad with fake chicken. The mashed sweet potatoes and greens were also quite good. I did not like the pepperjack steak(whose name I may’ve gotten wrong), it tasted too meat-like for me. The fried plantains were fine, but were not fantastic. They were not as rich as I expected. I think we also had curried veggies and quinoa with cranberry and beets. This is not really soul food, which we’d expected based on reviews I read. There was no fake BBQ, fake fried chicken, mashed potatoes with vegan gravy, or cornbread. Instead, the food was mostly cold and was served on a bed of brown rice. They had greens, they weren’t prepared in a typical soul food manner. It seemed a lot more like health food than soul food. This isn’t necessarily bad(at least not to me!), but it was not what we’d expected.

I went to the Yabba Pot with a friend for lunch and must say it was a good lunch. I read many of the reviews that were posted before I went and was happy that the«incredible» wait time did not exist. In fact they were very speedy with our food, by the time my friend finished ordering her food mine was already done. I ordered the 3 choice option with Chick-un, the greens and mushrooms. I have never had greens with all the wonderful veggies in them before they were by far the best greens I have ever eaten. The mushrooms were okay, the chick-un was I am guessing soy which was also very good. The place has a very community oriented local feeling. There looked like there was a place where perhaps local talent come in and sing or read poetry maybe in the evening, there was no one there when we were there at lunch time. Stick with the sampler items especially if your dining with someone it will save you some money. They can be a little pricey if you order items separately.

A very relaxed environment — but possibly TOO relaxed. Yeah, the place could be cleaner, the food could be warmer/fresher, the staff could be friendlier. However, I really enjoyed the food. Good vegan comfort food is often hard to come by, unless you’re cooking it yourself. I also couldn’t resist getting a smoothie to go. Yum. Also: share the sampler! You’ll get WAY more bang for your buck.

Found this through Unilocal when we were in Baltimore, great vegan soul food. The prices are average but the servings were HUGE. We shouldve gotten the 5 sampler or whatever it was, it wouldve been plenty for two and half the price. Their lemonade was also killer. I’m a huge soul food fan so my opinion may be biased. But the greens and mashed sweet potatoes were badass. The staff were really nice and helpful which is great when some people are not familiar with either soul food or veganism.

I like that the place tries. Sort of. I love the atmosphere, I love the posters, I love the food presented cafeteria style. The food seems a little expensive, until you see them heaping mounds of it onto your plate. What I do not love is, as others have mentioned, the wait time. I also don’t love that the first time I came, the food was great. All subsequent times, the food was barely tolerable. Most of it was dried out, and barely warm. I’m all about their greens, but anything else is a hit-or-miss situation. This seems a bit of a shame, since they give you so much of it. I’d rather have a reasonable amount of great food, than a heaping amount of mediocre food. It’s great to support a local business, and their drinks are amazing(try the ginger drink, if you like spicy things). I’ll go back there again for the greens and the drinks. If I have the time to wait, and if I have the money to pay $ 5 for greens.

I’m all about second chances. I ate here once and I wasn’t impressed, but the second time it was pretty good. Mind you i’m not a vegetarian, but if I was it’d be high on my list. They have a great organic feel, local art, local crowd. The menu is simple. I really recommend the greens. They also have an interesting«fish» cake. Their smoothies are a bit rich to drink a whole one. The vegetable juices are clean and refreshing. I really liked the rice and chick peas as well. Also make sure to finish it all off with one of the sweet potatoe pies or carrot cakes, mmmm delicious. I think i’m ready to give up meat now… j/k.

I stopped in here on the way to my friend’s place to get one of their hot entrees to warm up a bit. I chose the African Spinach — YUMMM. Whenever I think about that meal, I drool like Homer Simpson. It was exactly what I needed it to be — warm and rich, without being greasy or buttery. It really is vegetarian soul food! The downside is that it was expensive — $ 5 for a plate one-third filled of just that spinach. I should have ordered the combo which was more reasonable. I didn’t have time on the trip for a second meal, but I would have done it in a heartbeat to try the other dishes. I also snapped a picture of a sign hanging on the back wall that said«fast food = fast death» with a skull and crossbones. Gotta love it! I would visit this restaurant frequently if I lived in Charm City. Hope to be back again soon!

Finally… a place in Baltimore with ultimate comfort food. Its not your typical mac & cheese comfort; but it is hearty, wholesome food. The food is rich in spices(without spicy hotness.) If I’m having a bad day and need some comfort, I head for the Yabba Pot. It is sure to keep you full and happy! Prices aren’t too bad either, which is a plus.

It was decent. There are only a couple of true vegetarian places in Baltimore, and since Liquid Earth was closed, we went to The Yabba Pot(it was closer to the movie theater anyway). I have been ovo-lacto vegetarian for 15 years and I’d like to think I know good veg*n food when I taste it. The Yabba Pot was okay. I was not really wowed by the food — had the black-eyed peas and the jerk tofu — but it was okay. The monkey shake(orange, apple, and carrot juices, I believe) was okay but definitely wasn’t sweet at all. In fact, I didn’t detect anything particularly sweet here. What astonishes me is that they managed to pack 480 calories into the cookies(each one is 4 servings, you know) without using tons of butter and sugar. It had decent atmosphere, but they really need more tables for large groups. We were a party of three and took the only big table, at the back; after we were already eating, a party of seven came in, and they had to push a few tables together to manage to eat in the same area. Service was fine, nothing to praise or critique there. Overall I’d come back but it wasn’t OHMYGODWOW or anything.

The thing with the Yabba Pot is that the food was really pretty good. They have an option where you can order three different kinds of salad together for a flat price. My friends and all did this. However, I don’t even remember what I ate because it’s all overshadowed by the insanely long wait time. The thing is, we ordered cold salad, which is served cafeteria-style. What this means is that it was sitting there within sight in the salad case the whole time. WECOULDSEEIT!!! But, no joke, it took us 1 hour and 15 minutes to receive it after ordering! The thing was, every time someone came in with an order to-go, they prioritized that over eat-in customers. We finally complained after 45 minutes and were told it was coming right up. I was about to jump the counter and dish it out myself when we finally saw the waitress go back, spoon salad out onto each of our plates, and bring it over. Prep time: less than one minute. It was infuriating. As I said, I don’t even remember what I ate. I remember enjoying it, but I really mainly remember sitting there, annoyed. I’ve occasionally even thought about going back, but I just don’t want to deal with that sort of ridiculousness again, no matter how good the food.

Well it seems like everyone else has come here in the afternoon/night time so this review might not be totally fair BUT… I came here for brunch and I paid $ 6 for 2COLD pancakes. My b/f got the tofu scrambles w/a bunch of other garbage like fried plantains that were sort of rubbery like they had just been heated up from the day before… kinda like the way my pancakes were except they didnt even bother to heat them up. When we tried to order coffee the woman behind the counter looked at us, went«hmmm i gotta make it» and then says«I hope its not doing its ‘thing’ today» Then when we paid for our bill and pulled out the visa card she says«oh the credit card machines doin its thing today» WELLTHEN… Id venture to say that if it is indeed«doin its thing» then it should be working then wouldnt you agree??? Same for the coffee pot perhaps? If the coffee pot is doin its thing I should be enjoying those doubtfully fresh roasted beans that I paid for even though it never arrived to my table. Oh right… back to my rubbery cold pancakes… so i asked for some butter. I dont think thats really an outlandish request… here were her exact words…“oh we only have country crock, thats not really vegan” YEANOKIDDING?! im gonna say if youre gonna serve breakfast at an «all vegan» restaurant you might want to have all vegan condiments as well. Im seriously making myself angry as I write this. Note to the yabba pot lovers… dont ever go there for breakfast. You will no longer be lovers.
