I’ve been here twice in a week, that’s how great this place is. The brunch options are delicious and well sized portions, and their lunch quesadillas can’t be beat. Great staff, relaxed atmosphere, good food!

Had the poutine — not all that. Skip the brisket — it’s more like chewy corned beef brisket. Too salty, killed the gravy. Shoestring fries were okay.

Great coffee! And I don’t even like coffee. They have a ton of different options to choose from, and they’re all great. What I love most about this place is that they’re actually open early. They have great Eggs Chesapeake and French Toast. I’ve only ever been here in the mornings, but it’s a great way to start the day! They have outdoor seating when the weather is nice which is a plus if you’re bringing along a pup!

The food here is reallllly good. Never had a meal that was NOT cooked to perfection! The curry chicken chowder was so delicious I couldn’t even believe it! Crab cakes are great, scallops are great, shrimp skewers are great… you get the picture! I also love the wine selection here. Highly recommend Metropolitan!

A month ago, I had the shrimp, beans & rice which was fine, if a little salty. Tonight, the weather being warmer, I thought to combine a salad with the smoked fish platter, and ordered the beet and arugula salad. The salad would probably have been fine if I had tasted the overly sweet balsamic dressing before spooning some over the greens. With the dressing, the effect was cloying. The fish platter was meh – fairly tasteless fish, an unappetizing dip, and not enough crackers. I guess there’s a reason the place wasn’t packed on a Saturday night

Their food is absolutely incredible! One of my favorite places in the area. The only reason I took off a star is because the crowd here is generally regulars and, at times, they can get a little obnoxious. The food really is good enough to look past that.

Made the mistake of coming here for brunch today. My boyfriend and I decided to give it another chance despite a bad experience last time(and the fact that there was a long wait at the place we usually go). We both ordered eggs Benedict which came with a side of hash browns. His eggs were not runny at all. I was skimped on the Canadian bacon — got about half the amount of what he got. The English muffins were dry. Then to top it all off the hash browns were inedible. We both love breakfast potato products but could not eat more than a bite of these. We will not be coming back!

My husband and I stayed at Scarborough Fair B&B, just a short walk to the Metropolitan. We decided to check it out for drinks and dinner on a Saturday night. We were nervous that it would be too busy, but we were happy to find seats available when we arrived around 7 pm. We started with drinks and an appetizer of crab deviled eggs. I had Tempranillo(by the glass) and he had a few craft beers he enjoyed. They have such a huge menu! You’re sure to find something you like. For dinner my husband had the grilled tuna with veggies & couscous. I had the crab & shrimp pasta. I asked for Alfredo sauce instead of sun dried tomato. The waitress didn’t seem too pleased about the change but said they could do it. The pasta was AMAZING. It’s Baltimore so you expect the crab to be delicious(which it was) but the Alfredo sauce was some of the best I’ve ever had. The shrimp was cooked perfectly. There was zucchini & squash in the pasta. Writing this review is making me want to go back and eat it again! I highly recommend this place. On a nice day try to sit by the big open windows.

I really enjoyed my small brunch here. I wasn’t too hungry so I scaled back my usual brunch binge and had some coffee and some shared food. I loved the self serve, free refill coffee. No refills would be ridiculous but being able to refill as needed was great. The food was good but nothing too memorable. We split a veggie sandwich and a salad with chicken but less than a week later I can’t recall anything about either except that I was satisfied and left thinking that I wanted to come back with a larger appetite. The atmosphere was cool: typical wood everywhere Baltimore pub styling. Service was good as well. I’m looking forward to returning.

How can what is a diner menu with European décor and ambiance work? Not sure, don’t care, and I keep coming back, again and again. It hits every palate on the face of the earth. Have vegetarians? Only red meat lovers? Pescetarian? Just want a burger? Does not matter everyone will be happy. I have been for breakfast/brunch, lunch, and dinner. It always hits the spot. Their coffee for breakfast is great, though it is slightly annoying that you need to go downstairs to fill your own cup. Their prime rib special in the winter — amazing.

The place is charming and unique — a coffee house, bar and restaurant. We were sad the outdoor tables were taken when we arrived but we were promptly accommodated inside. The food was great, the beer list was decent and my margarita was delicious but the service left much to be desired. We waited way too long for someone to take our order and when that was done, it seemed like I had to grab the server’s attention a few times when my husband’s beer was gone. To their credit, they did replace my meal as I ordered the wrong thing. But, at the end, as soon as we finished, the server was ready with our check and didn’t even ask if we wanted dessert. This is one of my biggest pet peeves as it signifies that they can’t have us leave soon enough. The place certainly wasn’t busy and there were plenty of empty tables, so she could’ve asked if we wanted dessert. Overall, I’d still go here for food and drinks and hope you get a better server!

We take all are out of town friends here for brunch after a night of drinking. It has that old feel of Baltimore(in a good way) with the exposed brick and wood floors. You can go to a few places for brunch in Fed Hill but this place has a lot of seating. Service can be a little slow at times but just enjoy the coffee bar while you wait for your food. Also went here for lunch and a beer and was not disappointed. Had the chicken chipotle wrap… delicious!

One of my spots! The food is always on point — highlights to me include the ladykiller salad, the green lip mussels, any and all wraps(especially the jenny), and the spicy crab and scallop app. It’s all good, though! As for drinks — there isn’t a better place in federal hill for beer. Bruce has his delicious constants like Unibroue’s Blanche De Chambly & the Bavarian Classic Schnieder Weisse but rotates through so much good beer! You’ll never be bored. He has firkin night every Thursday and the firkin is different each week. He also has the tastiest wines and a great selection of big bottles of cider. Right now he is carrying Millstone, which is a local cider & is wonderful. I can’t speak highly enough about this place and I always recommend it for any time but they really do a spectacular brunch if you’re looking for a brunch spot on the weekend. The $ 5 Mimosa with bourbon is always a good choice :)

I recently spent a week in Baltimore and ate crab cakes every night. Metropolitans were, hands down, the best. Very cute space that’s a coffee house during the day and wine bar at night. If it’s nice out, sit by the huge open windows. The wines are fairly priced and their menu –whoa! It’s ridiculously extensive. Although I realllly wanted the crab deviled eggs, others in my party were not of the egg-eating type. Entrée wise, I went with the crab cake platter, which did not disappoint. It came with a side of veggies and mashed potatoes and while I love me some mashed taters, these tasted rather instant. It’s all good though, because what the mashed potatoes lacked, the crab cake made up for! Definitely a nice local spot to hit up if you’re in town and want to explore a neighborhood other than the inner harbor.

We went there for brunch on a Sunday afternoon. The food was ok and the waitress was grumpy. We were lucky enough to get an outside table(I learned why, quickly). My friends joined us with their new puppy(this becomes relevant later). I was half-way through my Bloody Mary when our table collapsed, the tableware shattered on the ground, we were COVERED in Bloody Mary, drinks, and food, and everything fell on the pup. The waitress came out to clean up the mess and did NOT apologize once. The individuals at the table next to us explained that the same thing happened to them the previous week. The waitress brought the bill, credited the Bloody Mary(after I asked), and that was it. In other words, if you want good food and service, don’t go here.(P.S. This was not my first time here.)

Went here last night for the first time and YUM! I don’t think I’ve ever looked at a menu and ordered the very first item listed — but how could I pass on a caramelized onion and goat cheese pizza w/arugula??? It was utterly delicious!!! Scrumptious! Definitely an item I’ll come to crave(and since I don’t live anywhere near downtown, will probably try to make at home!) I was also very pleased to see SOMANY vegetarian options — veggie chili, fried tofu, etc. and main dishes too that all sounded amazing! I’ll def be back, but likely not soon enough!

Sadly not a fan. Super awkward host, basically left to our own to find a seat. Getting yelled at by the bartender to sit as our group of 6 debated a big table or 2 tables of 3… not so fun. The food was fine but really not anything special. Had the steak and shrimp platter, both if which were okay but a bit bland. This was accompanied by flavorless broiled veggies and rice. Tried the fries which were tasty shoestring thin fries. Overall the food was average = 3 stars Service was unfriendly :(= 1 star

The diverse drinks options at this place is awesome, but when it comes to food my friends and I have different opinions. We all got didn’t think the goat cheese appetizer was as awesome as it sounded on the menu, but when it came down to the entrees, I think I enjoyed my tuna dish more than they enjoyed what they’ve ordered. I would definitely give this place another chance!

Every single item I have had on the menu has 1) been demolished within a good 2.2 minutes of being presented to me and 2) been so doggone good, I seriously considered wandering back to the kitchen and shaking hands with the chef, but thought better of it as not to distract him from his other creations. All this, from a wine bar/coffee shop. It’s not a fancy place. You don’t go here to impress a first date with the price of the meal or the ambiance of the space. You go here with friends or for meetings or on dates with people you actually know and just want to spend some time with, not impress with fluff. I’ve had breakfast sandwiches here, recently a chipotle shrimp veggie wrap that was bananas, and of course, teas and pastries. The staff is always super nice and helpful and will let you sit upstairs with your laptop even when the upstairs is closed if you promise to run down and get your food from them at the counter or be patient until they can break away and come upstairs. There’s usually only one or two people working during the day, so it’s totally understandable and not a hassle at all. Plus, 9 times out of 10, they do find a way to get upstairs so you aren’t neglected. Couple the great food with great wine and fantastic mimosas served in a pint glass and you have a great place to set up shop, have a bite, and get cracking on work for an afternoon or meet up with folks you haven’t seen in awhile. Really… Metropolitan is pretty much perfect for most ocassions.
