Even though the place looks nice and romantic from the outside, the service is terrible. Of the service would be more attentive, it’d be a perfect date spot. Do not recommend.

I use Unilocal as a reference on a regular basis but have never found it necessary to write a review until my recent upsetting experience at Speakeasy. A group of friends and myself decided to give Speakeasy some business on Halloween night after seeing that many of the bars on the square were packed shoulder to shoulder and there was plenty of room in Speakeasy. Now I understand why this place always seems dead on a regular basis. Long story short, one of the bartenders was absolutely horrible to myself and my friends when we went in on Saturday night. We were a larger group and were going to give them good business, but the bartender yelled at me and embarrassed me in front of the entire crowd and our whole group left in confusion and disgust. On our way out the door, the bouncer told us that the bartender was completely out of line and apologized for the bartender yelling, as it was completely unwarranted, but proceeded to say«it’s just been a long day for him.» Although his apology made me feel not as upset at the situation, I am not sure what establishment deems it acceptable to yell at the customers because it has been«a long day.» Even worse, when my friend went back the next day to get his credit card, he was told that the bartender threw it away! I know bartenders deal with a lot of frustrating and obnoxious customers, especially on a night like Halloween. However, when a group of 15+ 30-year olds walk into a bar after a VERY calm start to the night, one can understand why the group was upset about the bartender’s yelling that was uncalled for and under no circumstances unacceptable. He has driven out a lot of business from Canton locals who were a part of my group and word will surely spread that the establishment has unprofessional staff. As a previous bartender and waitress myself, I am very disappointed in the treatment of the customers. I hope that this bartender is either released from his position at Speakeasy before he drives out more customers or gets some help for his anger that he takes out on customers.

Love this place! My boyfriend and I come here a few times every month(and order the same dish each time) but we are never disappointed. The place is usually pretty dead(like all week) so there’s always great private seating upstairs and on the balcony. The only downside would probably be the speed of service but what they lack in speed they make up for in taste! Cute place with nice character! Screw all the haters!

If your a chain smoker, this might be the place for you to sit out on the walkway and watch an O’s game or Ravens game. Me? I prefer fresh air and service with a smile. I also like decent food. This place has none of these. Go eat some pie across the street and avoid this nasty place.

It took over 45 mins to get the food. The food was ok and our waiter was hustling since he was by himself handling many tables. The sad thing is that the bar tender did not do anything to help. He just stayed at the bar talking to three people in a low class conversation while all the others customers were frustrated.

Horrible. Absolutely HORRIBLE. Worst experience of my life. We ordered rose and an old fashioned for drinks and the waitress said«sorry I’m new here what is that.» Then it took 45 minutes for her to bring us our drinks. We ended up leaving before our food came out(1.5 hours later). And the food was basically warmed up sams club disgusting food. NEVER go here unless you want to hate your life. Fuck with me you know I got it

This place had unbelievably bad service and mediocre food. A bummer, because it’s a cute place with a great outdoor balcony. But seriously– do not ever go here. We waited an hour and 45 minutes for food. Not our waiter’s fault, as the poor guy was doing the best he could. Terrible management.

My friends were in from out of town and I wanted to take them to Canton for brunch. Speakeasy appeared to be the place to go. Although there were customers seated outside and on the upstairs deck, we were the only occupied table inside. We placed our order quickly, were served horribly weak and watered-down coffee, and then the wait began. Approximately 45 minutes later our food came out. It was different than what we ordered and cold. Needless to say we sent it all back and walked out. I will not be going back.

I’ve been waiting almost an hour for my food, my waiter has yet to come over and check and see if I’d like a refill, there are maybe 10 people max here. I’m tempted to just give up and leave… I will definitely NOT be coming back. Update: there’s only one cook… on a Sunday afternoon. The table next to me(who got here way before me) just got their food and didn’t even have silverware.

The bartenders are amazing(even the freakishly tall one). They make great Alabama slammers and old fashions. Really enjoy their meatball sub. Highly recommended.

Went once for lunch, sat outside. The area around the tables was dirty, old water in the dog bowls(I brought my dog and had to ask for fresh water), cigarette butts, other people’s food. Waitstaff made me feel like they weren’t ready to serve yet and it was 2 pm — they weren’t busy. Service was terrible, and the food wasn’t much better. I got the tuna sandwich — nothing special. My mom, who rarely comes to the city, got a burger and wasn’t a fan of that either. The place has location going for it, but that’s about it. It needs major revamping.

Brought us coffee plates for our appetizers, so we could barely even eat on them and it took 40 minutes for the appetizers to come out on a slow Sunday! There were MAYBE10 people in the whole restaurant. I mean how long does it take to make bruschetta and fried calamari. The bruschetta was soo dry, I mean how can you mess up bruschetta? The caesar salad literally had no taste. I ordered the beet salad and it was made wrong. On the menu it said it was beets and feta cheese and it came out with lettuce. When I asked the waitress if it was made right, she rolled her eyes at me and said yes, and that she had a more experienced server make the salad. She quickly told me I was wrong and that it said lettuce on the menu and left(it didn’t say it on the menu, we double checked). My friend ordered a beer but she was never given one. And top it alllllll off, my friend found a hair in salad. Needless to say, I will NEVER be coming back and I will NEVER recommend the place. Best part was that my friends were friends of the owner so she assured us special treatment. Can’t imagine how they treat other customers.

The food is a hodge podge of mostly bad food with a sprinkle of authentic Greek appetizers, which has nothing to do with a speakeasy. What we ate: the crab dip was grease and cheese and .01 ounces of crab. My salad came with a hair in the dressing and they begrudgingly replaced it. My husbands pasta was mush. A friend had the Mediterranean platter which was delicious, especially with the babaganoush on special. Prices were extremely high for the quality. Our crab dip ran us nearly as much as our entrees, and we were nickel and dimed for things like additional pitas and substitutions. If you want to have a good time, sit on the upstairs balcony and order the Greek food.

I had high hopes for this restaurant because of it’s perfect location in the Canton Square in addition to it’s amazing upper porch seating. I went there for brunch and was disappointed beyond my beliefs! The steak and eggs was not horrible but I find that hard to really mess up. The«fresh» berry salad consisted of frozen blueberries quite possibly from a can. The meatball sub tasted like it was defrosted and stuck in the microwave for 20 min. This was just the food. The service here was absolutely horrible, usually people want to spend less than 2.5 hours at a brunch without bottomless but the food took forever to come out and it literally took 1 hour to get our $ 14.75 in change. What are you going to do? I honestly hope the management here realizes what they are doing is not working and change this amazing location into a possibly epic bar/restaurant.

Stopped here and had a few drinks and some apps when we went out to Canton for Restaurant Week and our reservation wasn’t until 9:00. They have an upstairs and downstairs, outdoor seating available for both. However, be advised, there is only one, single stall bathroom. So if you’re out on the town, you may have to wait a while. Bar had quick service at about 8:00. Server was very pleasant, apps took quite a while to come out, we almost missed dinner. It didn’t strike me as the type of bar that I’d enjoy just going to and sitting around. Dinner options were somewhat nicer than pub grub but not overly fancy. A decent mix, but not my first choice in the Canton square.

Lousy burger. I went here with a semi-large party(7) after Nacho Mama’s and Mama’s on the Half Shell were too busy to accommodate us. There was plenty of room here, so that was a plus. The food was pretty disappointing though. I ordered a medium rare Western Burger. It was a standard burger with cheddar, bacon, and BBQ sauce. The burger that came out was more than well done… it was one of the driest burgers I’ve ever had. There was also barely any BBQ sauce on it so it’s not like the sauce helped make it juicy. I ended up not finishing it I was so disappointed by it. The server was very nice, but she clearly had too many tables to serve and the kitchen was slow. It took forever for our food to come out(clearly they were nuking our hamburgers) and then one friend had to wait an additional 10 minutes for his after everyone else’s came out. Will never go back here unless in a pinch with a large party.

Nice location with balcony seating overlooking the street. We just did drinks, so I can’t comment on the food, but our waitress was excellent and didn’t seem to care in the least that there was a new person joining us every half hour. Their selection of draft beers wasn’t amazing, which is the reason I’m withholding a fourth star, but it’s still a great place to relax with friends over drinks and enjoy the summer weather.

The location is very nice, and they have a surprisingly large amount of seating upstairs as well. We visited with a group, and service was very friendly but rather ineffective. Three people had ordered salads and were missing main ingredients(protein!?). A few people wanted to order wine and just wanted to order a varietal by the glass, but the waitress insisted she’d rather get the wine list than just get«glass of chardonnay» or «glass of merlot». Once we did have the wine list, everybody that attempted to order from it was told sorry, they’re out of it, for at least a dozen items. So… house chardonnay by the glass it was. And that was fine! But why insist on the list and then decline everything we try to order from it? Again, quite a friendly waitress. Just not effective. I wanted to order something that didn’t require any modifications and had easy timing, since we were a big group, so I got the crabcake sandwich. Not bad, but nothing really great. Decent crab flavor, but nothing that I’d order again. The side of fries that came with it were limp, squishy, and cold.

I’ve really wavered on whether to give Speakeasy two or three stars, and decided I shouldn’t be so kind-hearted and that the«Meh. I’ve experienced better» description that Unilocal associates with two stars is quite apt! Went for Sunday brunch with four compatriots, on Mother’s Day. They weren’t crowded. Perhaps that was a sign! We were happy to be seated up on the lovely balcony, clearly a main draw of the place– along with its location at the edge of Canton Square. However, despite the rest of the balcony being vacant, we weren’t given the primo end table closest to the corner, but rather the one closest to the steps, which makes things easier on the wait staff. Speaking of the wait staff, out main server was a cute young lass who really seemed to try and was nice about things. Alas, she seemed rather green, didn’t even know if they had salsa… they apparently did NOT, which then poses the question of why an «eggs burrito» would be on the menu if the joint doesn’t have salsa?! Also, she let us get through the third person’s food order before she figured it would be a wise decision to get a pad of paper and a pen! Thus, three of the five of us had to repeat their orders. The food came out within a reasonable period of time, though we weren’t dwelling on that since we were relaxing and chatting and enjoying the fine weather. The one person in our group who opted for a cocktail indicated that his Bloody Mary was pretty bloody bad. The food was hit and miss overall. Some things were fine– my blueberry pancakes for instance were fine, though nothing exceptional. Some things were just bad– eggs over easy were instead over well, with nary a drop of liquid yolk to be had. And the scrapple was plain and simply very poorly done, being undercooked and coming out in a mound as an obvious result of someone trying to flip undercooked scrapple with a spatula. That was a real disappointment to me, as one of my fellow brunchers was in town from Ohio, and had never had scrapple before. Luckily, we had a better quality version the next morning at the legendary Blue Moon Café. This place is a real shame. Perhaps the owners and operators figure that location, location, location is all that matters. Maybe they only care about their bar operations. In any event, nearly 40 reviews are a pretty good sample size, and SOMEONE involved with Speakeasy should be taking notice of how poorly they are rated on a consistent basis. With the location and layout/look this place could be a true gem. Instead, it’s simply a chunk of coal-in-the-rough.

Visited Baltimore and my buddy, who’s a detective there, took us to this little joint while we waited on the rest of our friends. Ordered the crabcake sandwich and it was delicious. Their beer selections was pretty good too and had a chance to sample a few local brews. Make another visit a day later and the service was still the same: consistently good. Definitely a nice place to chill. Bonus: the upstairs area where you can sit outside and overlook the square.
