Sunset Lodging

Booked through Orbitz for a pretty low rate (under $ 70) and was expecting so so accommodations. Turned out to be a decent hotel with immediate access to a beautiful beach. Service from the hotel staff was great, very sincere and helpful. The only bad thing was the bed was a little stiff. However, I still had a good night’s rest before I hit the road again.

I thought this place was fantastic! Ocean view, large room with a jetted tub and comfy bed… oh and again… the view! I think we managed to luck out on which room we got (our friends room was a bit smaller) but still you cant beat the view. We didnt have time to checkout the pool or hot tub but they looked nice. The lady that checked us in at the front desk was incredibly nice. We showed up early and she checked us in with no problem at all, gave us map of the area and suggestions on where to go. The only thing that could use improvement is the breakfast… yogurt, muffins, jusice and coffee. They were all good, just not very filling.

Sunset Oceanfront has some of the best room views, but the buildings themselves need major renovating asap. To start with, the security in this place is horrid. They do not use room cards, instead they use keys. There is no door bar lock that prevents someone from kicking open the door, and the deadbolt does not auto engage. The doors are in serious disrepair, and even when closed there is a major gap around the door to where you could see a lot of daylight. As a female that travels a lot, I would never stay here if I were alone. Too many security issues. Next is their continental breakfast. My opinion is either do a good breakfast or don’t do one at all. Sunset’s consists of yogurt cups, coffee/​tea, pre-​packaged muffins. That’s it.
The room is clean, but the furniture is mismatched. It is way past replacement time and there is a distinctive smell. It’s not a gross smell, just an aged smell. If there is no other place to stay, you could stay her, but honestly your car has better security.

I’ll start off by giving this place a lucky 2 stars only because of the beach front view from our room. This is the worse hotel my family and I ever stayed in. This hotel needs to be fully renovated starting tomorrow. We paid $ 107 for one night but was worth $ 30. It was so bad that my husband wanted to sleep in the car, we didn’t even bring our luggages into our room. Luckily, we had a picnic blanket with us and were able to lay that over the bed, we wore our shoes and sandals at all times, showered the next morning and left! I would NEVER stay here again and I don’t recommend this place to anyone unless it is the only hotel left in the area.

This hotel claims high reviews on trip advisor. That may be true if you are lucky enough to stay in one of their newly renovated rooms. The entire two story building my wife and I stayed in was deplorable. We were accompanied by another couple who also rented a room there. They also felt the same.
Our room literally stunk. There was a slider which was the only entry to the room. No screens on the slider. The carpet and spreads were filthy. The paint and wood finish was peeling off the wall. The TV was a 12″ TV. What a joke.
Since we had a 12 lb dog and our friends had a medium sized terrier and we were traveling along the Oregon coast and it was late afternoon, we had no time to find another pet friendly hotel. I’ve stayed in much cleaner rooms in Baja MX for $ 35 vs staying at this dump for $ 117. This was the worst room I’ve ever stayed in. A complete ripoff.

Sad to say, after paying high dollar, could not get into room, unfixed door problem, no ice, but it was our fault we could not get in the room! That was the topper — luv the ocean view, but lots of Bandon places have great ocean views. Room was clean and nice. Not very full in peak summer season, that’s a clue. Could be fabulous.

Sunset Oceanfront Lodging is the proper name. I’ve been coming here for 15 years. The property is divided into two main sections. One section is similar to a regular roadside hotel with a heated pool and hot tub. The other section (where I stay) is called the Vern Brown Addition. The Vern Brown Addition is located on the cliff front directly facing the ocean. You need to get a room on the top two floors if you are looking for a fireplace.
The Vern Brown Addition is named after Vern Brown of course, who lived here when Bandon burned back in the 1930’s. I had met an elderly gentleman who gave me the story of the fire from when he lived here and was with Vern on a fishing trip when the gorse in Bandon caught fire.
The view from the oceanfront rooms is spectacular with nothing between you and the surf but a sandy flat beach.
The rooms have plush queen beds, kitchenettes and fireplaces, well worth the cost.

Let me start by saying that the room was nice and cute. A queen bed, small tv (19″ or so), sink, shower, toilet, coffee maker. They also allow dogs so we brought our pit bull which was very nice.
I wouldn’t stay here again if someone paid me. The walls are paper thin so you can hear everything your neighbors are saying. We were woken up at 5 am by the people upstairs. Every time they walk around, our room squeaks LOUD. When they turn on their water it is like the water is on in our room. And to boot, they have a herd of unruly children that keep stomping and running back and forth up there. But even just normal walking sounds like stomping.
No possible way you get any sleep if you’re downstairs and have people upstairs. No. Way.

This was a great value and very comfortable with great staff! We stayed in the main building with ocean view from across the street. Nice sitting area outside, big room, fireplace, frig, micro and sitting area. 5 minutes from downtown and a dinner house next door.
The only two minor negatives was the room was so large that the TV was too small for viewing from the bed. It was ok, but would recommend a larger screen. The second was that the cleaning staff left tip envelopes. Not a fan of this and actually thought of tipping prior to seeing the tip envelope. Maybe I’m wrong about this, but was just something I have not experienced except on cruise ships.
We were there for four nites and would have stayed longer if not for a family emergency! We paid $ 72 per nite, mid week!

People who rated this place one star are missing the point. There are amazing sea stack formations, sea caves, star fish, and all kinds of PNW amazingness at the beach down below.
We stayed in the cheapest room we could get. The original rooms from the fifties, I think it was. It was dingy, the beds were hard, and the carpet was grimy. Yeah, it was gross. But it was warm, and clean… ish. For one night, it was fine. The breakfast was meager. Yogurt, hostess-​type muffins and coffee. Front desk staff wasn’t exactly the friendliest. Wifi was spotty. Laundry was a nice touch (especially for road-​trippers) but pricey.
Nevertheless, walk across the street and down to the beach to find all the reasons that make this THE place to stay in Bandon. When the tide goes out, you can walk out to these beautiful sea stack formations. All around them are tide pools with big orange and red star fish. We explored some more, heading south down the beach (that’s left from the stairs, for anyone who is not directionally inclined) and we didn’t have to look far to discover sea caves. Yeah, that’s right. SEA CAVES. Places in the sea stacks where the ocean had hollowed out, big and wide enough to walk in at low tide. I am an East Coast girl, and this was my first time in Oregon, and I was baffled by the coolness of sea caves. (Tip: Your kids will love this, and they are not too scary or complicated to explore.)
tl;dr: Management could definitely improve the conditions in the rooms, but one-​star reviewers are missing the point. Get out of your hotel room and get on the beach.

Let’s be honest. It’s all about the fact that the rooms (make certain you get the rooms right on the beach, not across the street) are spectacularly located with stunning views. For $ 175, for what you get, it’s overpriced. But it’s the only game in town and the owners know it so they don’t have to offer special deals. You want a room on the beach, this is it.
The room was clean enough, but funky is the word I’d use. We don’t watch much TV so weren’t bothered by the tiny screen. Folks are nice, breakfast is a joke, but it’s all about the view. Access to the beach was easy, if you don’t mind stairs, and you can walk for miles along one of the nicest beaches anywhere.
Would I stay there again? Yes. I’d grumble about it but we’ve been occasional visitors since the late 80’s when the beachfront rooms were new. If you can rent a home and split it with another couple, that’s the best option and probably about the same price.
