Noms. Harvest Moon is the one of the two best sandwich spots in Bangor. They serve gourmet fresh or panini-pressed sandwiches(approx $ 6 – 10) on a variety of breads(try the marble rye) wrapped in butcher paper. Favorites are the BB King and the Dizzy Gillespie. There is also a decent salad bar with greens and pasta. My only complaint is that occasionally the TLC spent in making the lunch creation takes a while. Typically, I can read an entire Coffee News and spot«Little Bill» in an ad before my sandwich comes. But it’s totally worth the wait. I recently moved to the area from Phoenix, and was overjoyed to find Harvest Moon! You really cannot go wrong with any choice of sandwich from here. Typically I am all about the Blondie, however went for a wild card one day and ordered the hot special. Anxiously I awaited my name to be called to receive my sandwich, and tried to pass time by challenging myself with the weekly Coffee News’ trivia. Finally, my name was called and took the first bite, and then quickly the second and third. To my surprise I realized there was no meat on this sandwich after chowing away at it, and as a meat lover didn’t seem to care about such a petty matter at that point in time… It was too delicious. Long story short, if you like sandwiches or for that matter good food, go to Harvest Moon.

Bangor can be an odd place downtown. We’ve been here several times before. I guess the word that sums it up for us is surly… lots of unfriendly faces in the streets. No smiles back at you. Lots of grit, profanity and no benches to sit on and enjoy a coffee or lunch. Warning signs posted that drinking alcohol on street is illegal.(Well that a ‘Splains a lot.) We went here to eat on the way home from Acadia based on other Unilocalers. It was a friendly and clean place. Sandwiches(Ringo Starr and George Harrison) were good. Not the thick deli sandwiches I’m used to though, and they had run out of cole slaw. But we enjoyed the flavors. 2 ice teas, 2 sandwiches and 1 bag of chips $ 21. They’ve won best sandwich in Bangor for many years running, and so I give them credit. And they are an oasis of kindness to humanity! Biggest bummer for me was there’s zero outdoor seating. With 2 dogs in tow while traveling, I won’t leave them in the car anywhere. Even a couple chairs outside their door would have been terrific. Maybe they can’t because non-customers would monopolize them. I guess I’m used to more dog friendly places.

I’ve been here a few times and I’ve never been disappointed. The sandwiches are always good and have a nice fresh taste. The atmosphere is fun, light and perfect for lunch. I’d probably go more often but a full meal cost right around 12 with a sandwich, drink and chips, so I can only go when I feel like treating myself, and I know I can’t do much better for lunch then this place.

Well, wasn’t that a nice surprise! Tucked around the corner from Penobscot Theatre Company and directly across the street from the Columbia Street Baptist Church, sits an undiscovered gem! The Harvest Moon Deli serves sandwiches, salads, panini and soups. The Bangor location is their second in the area, after their original in Orono. The place was empty when I walked in at 4:45PM, and The staff kindly answered all of my questions and help me select one of their signature sandwiches. I went with the BB King on focaccia, on the recommendation of the sandwichista(Is that a word? It is now!), only without the pesto. Because basil, ew. ;) For $ 7.25, it’s not a huge sandwich. But it was exceptionally tasty! In particular, the roasted red pepper mayonnaise was delightful. Even though it’s listed as being«serve hot off the Panini press,» it was still cool in the center, though nicely crisped on the outside. In addition, they have vegetarian and gluten free selections. A bunch of seating in the adjacent room. In all, a very nice addition to Bangor’s grab-and-go food options.
