These people know how to roast coffee! We come here every week or so to get a pound or two of the Sumatra and Decaf Sumatra. It’s fantastic. Now and then we get a latte to go, also, but if they are busy be prepared for a long wait. We eschew the big chains; it’s good to support an independent who is focused on quality.

At this point in my Unilocaling life, I consider myself a coffee enthusiast who can appreciate the differences between artisans and utility coffee. Newport Coffee house, although I really do support local, turned me off with their macchiato. A macchiato should be stained with milk, but my cup was filled with curdled foam that was very unpleasant to swallow. By definition, they should revise their menu, because this was definitely not a macchiato. The curdled milk completely tainted the espresso, giving me no chance to enjoy my morning! Maybe I will try the regular american coffee next time, but do consider training the staff again or revise the menu to accurately represent what type of espresso you are offering.

What happened? Prices have gone up; but quality and service have diminished appreciably.

Here’s what you need to know: They roast the coffee themselves; they have terrific drinks and customer service; they have a loyalty program — what’s not to love. Paul and his staff have been doing a great job the last couple years since taking over the café. It’s a charming place that is loved by locals, and really earns its patronage. Their coffee selection is great, and their specialty drinks are just right — not too extreme with spice and sugar like a lot of other coffee shops. The food selection is limited, but the quality of the baked goods is rather good. The ambiance is cozy and comforting. The roaster in the back of the store is a very cool backdrop, and adds a lot to the ethos and feel of a café. It’s great to have a local café like this, where you can expect reliable, high quality food and coffee, server by people who know their craft.

Stopped by on the recommendation of a friend, and was glad I did. Excellent espresso, and the price was right. $ 2 something for a double shot, and quality was very good. Free wifi at the place, and ample seating if you wanted to enjoy your coffee there. The place is no frills, not sure if by design or just new. Really who cares if the product is good!

Just ok. I’m guessing they use the same clever drippers for tea and coffee, because my coffee tasted like a strange tea. Pretty disappointing. My friend got the drip coffee and said it was good.

The most delicious coffee beans I have ever had the pleasure to savor. The staff was very welcoming.

We had 2 good experiences at Newport while staying in Lincolnshire for a wedding. Our first occasion was to grab some caffeine and do some laptopping. I got a miel(called a «Boston Latte» here) and my husband got a cappuccino. The espresso was delicious, and the miel had just the right amount of honey — wasn’t too sweet at all, like most places. While we ordered our drinks, the guy taking our order was super super friendly and chatty, which I like a lot. The barista making the drink was quieter, but still smiley. The place had a great working-friendly vibe… enough chatter to keep you from falling asleep, but not so loud you couldn’t concentrate. It also seemed like the type of place where a lot of locals come — there was a large group of seniors and not-so-seniors having a good laugh as we worked, and they mentioned something about seeing each other the next morning. The second time we visited, I got the same drink, which tasted just as great. The service was slightly less friendly(maybe the confusion over a miel actually being a Boston on our first visit opened the gate for some conversation), but it was a bit earlier in the morning, so perhaps they had just finished dealing with a rush. We didn’t stay the second time and took everything to go. Overall, if I ever need to be in the area again, I will definitely stop here for my coffee fix.

Very rude staff. This was the first and LAST time I will come to this coffee shop. I’ve attached a picture of the counter. If you can see the sign that says you must stand on the right side of the pillar to order you have better vision than me. But if you’re on the left side they will utterly ignore you. Coffee is worse than Starbucks. Scone was crumbled cardboard. Best just to move on.

Cozy coffee shop with free wifi, good lattes and plenty of seating. If you hate sbux, this is the suburban unicorn of a work spot.

Nice location. Plenty of seats. Accommodating staff. Easily backed up(similar to Peet’s) but worth the wait.

I looked at the reviews of Newport before I went, and after my first sip of my gingerbread latte I had to ask myself — did I go to the wrong place? It was one of the worst coffees I’ve ever had, including office coffee. I ordered a gingerbread latte and a scone, planning to sit out side with my dog and relax for a bit. I ordered and it took my coffee outside, where I started to notice a strange smell, sort of like an ashtray. While waiting for my coffee to cool a bit, I ate my blueberry«scone.» There weren’t really many blueberries in it, and it was almost more like a messy muffin, not great. During this time, I realized that the strange smell was most likely coming from my coffee. I took a sip, it was so terrible. The foam tasted burnt(but not a dark roast flavor, just gross) and the whole thing was chemically. I don’t know what they added to it to give it the alleged gingerbread flavor, or if they’ve ever actually had gingerbread, but this did not taste at all like gingerbread. It didn’t even taste like a latte either. Since the foam was so gross I tried to scoop it off with my napkin and drink just the rest of it. I couldn’t stomach more than a few sips. Since I was alone at the time and had my dog with me, it seemed like too much of a hassle to either tie him up or put him in the car and go back in and make a thing about it. I chalked it up to an $ 8 mistake and left ¾ of the drink behind. I’d almost always choose an independent coffee shop over Starbucks, but next time I’m in the area, I’d go to a Starbucks for sure.

By a whisker, this reaches four stars. There are lots of fans and I understand why. The café is a comfortable shoe, somewhere you can relax and feel far from day to day hectic times. I ordered a latte. The draw seemed a tad bitter – something not quite right, but just slightly not quite right. Maybe that’s my personal taste buds and the drink did mellow out after a few sips.

Decided to check out Newport based on Unilocal reviews– it definitely lived up to the rating. I would visit this place over Starbucks any day. As an independent coffee shop Newport does an excellent job of delivering great coffee and cozy ambiance. The coffee is freshly ground, and the espresso is drawn by hand. Service is friendly, and the music isn’t overpowering like at Starbucks. There are some nice couches for lounging, and plenty of tables to get work done. Newport has the benefit of being in a large strip mall, without having the feeling or appearance of being in a strip mall. Ample parking is available, and with the other shops and restaurants nearby, you could make a quick stop before or after getting groceries or running errands. The space is bigger and more inviting than it might appear from the outside.

Hubby and I happened to be in the area, and Unilocal assisted us to find the nearest coffee shop. It’s located in a strip mall where Panera and Eggsperience are. The young man who served us had a great vibe and was quick to get our orders in. I checked in with my Unilocal app and received a 10% discount. We ordered a 12oz. regular coffee, a 12oz. latte, a muffin, and an oatmeal Resin cookie. All of them came to $ 9.59. I didn’t think it was bad at all. Everything tasted like what it should. It was a nice, cozy place. There were many people who work or do business nearby patronizing here. I’m always a big fan of supporting local businesses. I always remember this place if I’m in the area again in the future.

I love their coffee and kindness until I have bad experience. I still love their coffee. I thought their bean will be as good as their coffee. I ordered Kona coffee bean. It expensive but I know their quality of beverage. I assume bean will be same quality. But I was wrong. Bean was to dry and taste was less than McDonald’s. I will not go back this shop again.

Paul and the gang are great, coffee is consistent but not robotic or automated. I really enjoy the coffee here. It’s a hidden gem in the plaza here!

I confess — I’m really not a regular coffee drinker. I have maybe a dozen or so coffee drinks a year. It’s really just not my drink… Newport Coffee House makes such a good Americano, however, that I can’t help but sit up and take notice. Not too strong, not too bitter, not too sour, not too… well, not too anything. Just an exceptionally-pleasant even-bodied drink that even I can smile about.

With a love for coffee and experience working at Caribou Coffee for a little I started out 2014 with the mission to visit all of the coffee shops in my area. After visiting a few, I thought why not write reviews and share my thoughts on each of them. So here we are… with out any further ado let’s dive right in to my unbiased review of New Port Coffee First I will say, as this place has many positive review mine will be no different. As I begin I’m trying not to find what’s good about Newport, but what’s bad. I want to find something to stop me from giving them a 5 star, because that would mean they are perfect, or close to it! Lets see if by the end of this review they earn the 5 of 5 or get bumped down to 4 of 5. Location & Ambiance: The shop is tucked away in Bannockburn Illinois in a tiny strip mall. I have actually lived within 5 miles of their shop for 6 years now and never heard of it, and due to their location I have actually driven by and never seen it! Upon my first visit the nice staff said, «Its Bannockburn’s best kept secret». Which I can’t disagree with, because Newport Coffee is one of the best if not the best places Coffee Shop I have been in ever! The inside is very relaxing and allows for you to hang out with a buddy and get a morning cup of coffee, get work done, or even use there free Wi-Fi(Which for me didn’t seem to work). The location & Ambiance are definitely a 5 of 5 for me! Coffee: Well it is a coffee shop, so lets talk about the quality of my cup of coffee! First, take a look at the pictures I posted! They coffee looks great, they have fresh local beans, the espresso drinks are made by hand, and the milk is not burnt! Trust me if you want an amazing cup of coffee you NEED to be taking a drive over to Newport!(I personally enjoyed a skim latte, and a plain Espresso Con Panna both was amazing!) Food: There are a lot of options for you if you want a little breakfast with your cup of coffee. They have a wide selection of muffins, breads, cookies, bagels, a few oatmeal’s, and bananas! I do recommend getting any pastry warmed up! If you want to see exactly what they have check out the picture I posted with there bakery selection! Staff: The staff was nice, and left me satisfied! They were very helpful and knew exactly the ins and outs of each type of coffee. Additionally, upon warming up my raisin muffin, last time I came in, they burnt the top side of it a little and the staff was very apologetic. They didn’t attempt to avoid the issue, and I’m sure if I asked they would have made me a new one entirely! Overall, I would definitely give Newport Coffee a try! They have quality all around, and I will be giving them a 5 of 5 stars! As this is my first 5 of 5 star rating on Unilocal,I cant recommend this place enough! Definitely check it out you won’t be sorry!

Nice little coffee shop tucked into the corner of a strip mall. We’re most often here on Super Car Saturdays when the parking lot is overrun with amazing cars and crowds of people. They do a nice job keeping up with the brisk business, and I’ve been pleased with my iced coffees or Americanos. The set up is a bit weird, as you order at the counter farthest from the door, but that’s clearly not a deal breaker for me. They have a nice shaded outdoor seating area, where I find respite while my husband looks at cars.
