Despite the mixed reviews here, we had a wonderful dinner. The hostess was very friendly and spent several minutes chatting with us after she seated us(and exactly at our reservation time). The waiter was friendly and provided great service. The food was excellent! Clam chowder was creamy and well flavored. Appetizer of roasted cauliflower with arugula pesto and tapenade was really good, and just the right size for 2 to share. Among the four of us, we had a burger, which my husband thought was really good; the sirloin, which was cooked perfectly medium, had great flavor, and was served with 3 good sized redskin potatoes and broccoli; haddock, which was served with green beans and a grain that may have been farro; and the duck. Everyone’s entrees were really good, portions maybe a little large. I say that because it’s almost 2 hours later and I’m STILL too full for dessert. All in all, I highly recommend Galyn’s!

I remember going to this place about seven or eight years ago and it wasn’t the best meal I’d ever had, but my girlfriend and I ended up on this side of Main Street hangry and ready for a good meal so we gave it a go. It worked out because we ended up being super pleased we stopped in. We started with their housemade blueberry lemonade and blueberry sangria. You’ve just gotta have blueberries with every meal while you’re in Maine, of course. The sangria was good, but the lemonade definitely outshined it. I’m craving it now, to be honest! Our server, Corey was very friendly and accommodating even though we only ordered two cups of soup and an appetizer, he treated us the same as the table beside us that ordered two bottles of wine and entrees. The lobster bisque was very good but their chowder was phenomenal! We finished off our meal with the Blueberry Apple Crisp that Corey recommended and we were so happy we did because it was to die for! Definitely worth stopping in for lunch while visiting Bar Harbor, sitting on the patio and watching the people go by while enjoying some yummy food is a great way to spend part of the afternoon!

We started off at the second floor bar area which was impressive with rich, dark wood. I was surprised to find we were the only customers during happy, though it began to fill up as the clock ticked down toward 6PM. On our first round we ordered Maine Mojitos — Cold River gin, muddled mint, slice of orange, splash of club soda — color us happy. My wife ordered a glass of Round Hill cabernet sauvignon just before happy hour ended while I chose a Maine Martini — blueberry vodka with a splash of blueberry syrup and a spoon full of wild blueberries. The drink proved to be a little too sweet for me. After drinks we decided to have dinner in the downstairs dining room with my wife ordering Maine crab cakes with a special sauce(mayo, sour cream and Old Bay seasoning) that came with rice and green beans. I chose the Frenchman’s Bay stew — a bouillabaisse of chopped tomatoes, garlic, onion, jumbo shrimp, salmon, scallops, haddock, lobster tail(tough), and mussels. Both entrees included a house salad. My wife thought her crab cakes were among the best ever, I thought my «bouillabaisse» was an insult to the people of Marseille.

Didn’t get the tourist trap vibe here at all. Galyns is very nice inside and the service was the best we experienced while in Bar Harbor. Great views on the second floor and great draft beer prices during happy hour
