While visiting Bar Harbor we went on a «tourist shop» shopping spree and Island Imports was our last stop. This shop is fairly large and has a huge selection of reasonably priced sweatshirts as well as small gifts for everyone in your family. The prices here may be some of the best in town. My wife and I ended up purchasing a few sweatshirts here and were happy that they had some plus size items. We also stocked up on Bar Harbor bottle openers for friends and walked out without breaking the bank. The only issue we had here was that the staff was a bit rude, but to be honest having worked customer service jobs in the past in a tourist town, I totally get it. In the end, great shop and some of the cheapest prices in town for some well made clothing items.

Drawn in by the miniature electronic ferris wheels in the window, like a touristy moth to the flame… The inside is a petty run-of-the-mill gift shop — your Acadia sweatshirts, your Bar Harbor tees, your lobster-stamped knick knacks. But also some more unusual items like glass ships inside glass bottles. And a strong selection of Maine-themed charms, especially in sterling. Signs were posted that all sterling was 50% off(don’t know if that’s a regular feature, and not really a true«sale»); but the prices were great — I got a thumbnail-sized 3D moose charm for only $ 11. The gold prices were pretty tremendous though… that same charm in gold runs $ 180. Instead, I purchased a 1D moose charm for $ 60. He’s tiny, and frankly, overpriced. But I really wanted to gift him to my mom whose birthday was coming up. Staff was helpful in pulling the pieces out for me to look at.

I do not generally visit kitchy gift shops, but my dog wanted air conditioning and they were very welcoming to her. We walked in to browse and walked out with 2 shopping bags. It turned out that their t-shirts and hoodies were really quality made items. Not the kind you’ll wash twice and toss. Bought my husband a Bar Harbor hoodie and he wore it the next day sailing. All the locals wanted to know where he got it, it was understated, classy and everyone wanted one. Found the coolest kit for children. They can make their own ship in a bottle. I have never seen this before anywhere. The staff was super friendly(something that is not common in Maine). A big surprise are their Christmas ornaments, they are unique, beautiful and again well made. I was almost tempted to change my tree theme to a nautical one. The biggest plus, their prices are not out of bounds. Reasonable in comparison to other tourist gift shops.
