The seafood chowder here is absolutely amazing. We make sure we come back every time we visit Bar Harbor just to have that! I tried the lobster roll also and it was delicious. Definitely a worthwhile stop!

We enjoyed an excellent seafood lunch at Peekytoe, including the warm lobster roll, fish tacos and the whoopie pie. The fish and lobster were both local and exceptionally fresh. The slaw they served alongside was a nice counterpoint and mustard based(vs mayo) which we appreciated. Would def come back to try the other options and daily specials. Yes, the food doesn’t come out immediately as it is prepared fresh and to order — but I don’t consider this a negative as some others have.

One of the more casual dining options in Bar Harbor. They officially close at 7pm(as well as the kitchen) but there’s outdoor seating so although we got our food around 6:45p, we hung out on the deck for a while eating and chatting and it worked out great! Service was great. Prices are reasonable for the touristy town of Bar Harbor. We ordered the foot long lobster roll($ 25?ish; $ 2 extra to make it hot and cooked in butter) which came with a large side of mustard cole slaw as well as an 8 oz lobster bisque($ 8) with double meat($ 2 extra) for 2 people. — Foot long lobster roll: The lobster meat portion was decent; not the most I’ve ever received on a roll but enough to at least make the amount of bread supplied useful. The bread itself was unimpressive, it was a large piece of sliced bread that was toasted then folded in half instead of a proper buttered and toasted bun or roll. It kind of fell apart while eating, too. The lobster meat was decent but not the freshest I’ve ever had. Wouldn’t re-order. — Mustard slaw: This was unpalatable due to the huge amount of mustard seed they included. It was really mustard seed with a side of cabbage. We ate as much as we could to not waste food but couldn’t finish because the mustard was so overpowering. Definitely substitute it for a kale salad or something else. — Lobster bisque: Very unique and tasty! We got it with double meat but it ended up being really not that much more meat compared to other bisques I’ve had. What was special about the bisque was the distinctive cumin flavor… very different and creamy without being too buttery. Would re order.

One star for being open on Sunday I really wanted to love the food here. It’s a nice little shop with some fresh seafood, specialty ingredients and a small food menu. I ordered their asparagus soup and caprese panini specials for take out. Unfortunately the asparagus soup did not really taste seasoned at all and had an almost a burnt aftertaste. The sandwich was fine although I found the cherry tomatoes used too sweet and the bread too dense for my liking.

Very fresh seafood. Helpful staff and clean place. The highlights were the MDI oysters, lobster bisque and the crab panini. We went twice during our time here! Love!

What a great lobster roll! We opted for the cold instead of hot lobster roll and it was perfectly done. Just a touch of mayonnaise with toasted bread. Their potato chips are great. The mustard seeded coleslaw was fantastic. The Chilean Pinot noir was pretty good. Lemon blueberry bar was super duper. The lady staff person was very warm and friendly. There is only one table and a fairly good sized eating bar.

The best place for vegetarians. The soup, the mushroom burger was soo delicious. Perfectly cooked mushrooms with the appropriate amount of spices. The couple running it are extremely hospitable. Don’t get tricked by the lobsters menu, there is enough for vegetarians as well. Great Experience. Must visit while in Bar Harbor.

Summary: Great little deli-style restaurant in the main Bar Harbor drag. The Food: We got the lobster roll(butter, not mayo) and the kale salad. Both were fantastic. I highly recommend getting the butter on the lobster roll rather than mayo as it tastes very fresh and springy instead of heavy. The Atmosphere: Typical run of the mill deli type atmosphere. Nothing to write home about. The Service: Dog slow. We went during lunch on a Sunday. They didn’t have too many customers and took about 20 minutes to make our food. We were in a hurry to make a flight back in Bangor so this put a little stress on the meal. Tips: Lobster roll with butter, not mayo.

Peekytoe Provisions is a combo fresh seafood /food market /take-out counter, with a few sandwich and seafood options for for those eating in or taking away. They had more seats for eating in than I had thought. A few umbrella-ed tables outside on their porch, a long counter lined up along their exterior walls, and a cute little corner separated by an Asian folding wall. We ordered at the counter and waited, making use of the bathroom we found in the back. I think they initially forgot about our order, as the party both ahead of us and behind us received their bundles before I noticed them working on our dishes. For the Fresh Fish Tacos(2) $ 9 Today’s panko breaded fresh catch, roasted corn salsa, avocado lime crema, fresh lettuce, they gave us a choice of flour or hand-rolled organic Maine corn tortillas. I went with the flour, while my DC picked the corn. We upgraded our side of House Mustard Slaw to the House Salad for a $ 2.50 charge. Pan Seared Scallops $ 11 Fresh 10⁄20 Scallops, Sweet Soy Reduction surprised us when it arrived at a count of but 4 scallops. We upgraded that side too, but to the Seaweed Salad for a $ 4.50 upgrade fee. The House Salad on its own would have been $ 5(local mixed greens & lettuces, cucumber, pickled red onion, roasted red pepper, shaved carrot, roasted tomato, artichoke hearts, lemon vinaigrette). While the Local Seaweed Salad is normally $ 7(locally farmed seaweed, sesame seeds, pickled red onion, soy ginger dressing). Their lobster bisque(8. oz cup for $ 6) was actually pretty good. I watched as they placed some lobster meat in the bottom of the cup before scooping in the bisque. The fish tacos were generously filled with both fish and veggies, and felt pretty healthy a choice. The scallops were good sized, though few, and slightly undercooked, but quite tender. The salad was fresh and flavorful. I think I preferred it of the two sides over the seaweed salad which was the thicker, wider, longer, floppy sort, rather than the Japanese seaweed salad I am more used to and quite fond of. This seaweed salad was rather interesting and had strong flavors due to the pickled red onion and the dressing. Peekytoe offers Apres Hours from 3pm — 5pm everyday, in house only: . No oyster shucking fee . $ 1 off all beer and wine . $ 4 a la carte fish tacos

We stopped in at this specialty food/restaurant with a game plan of ordering takeout to enjoy while on a whale watch trip. I had a certificate which the owner honored though they no longer participate in the progarm. We ordered the lump crab meat paninis special that included roasted red peppers, Maine cheddar cheese & spicy aioli on homemade sourdough with a side of coleslaw, but then decided these would likely become soggy so we dined in-house. The paninis, though freshly prepared, tasted more of grilled cheese than crab.

I hadn’t read any of the previous reviews. Looking over the menu, we thought we would share an order of fish tacos and a foot long crab roll. Purchased these as a to go order. First up the foot long crab roll. OK, lots of very fresh crabmeat, but without a hint of anything else. Usually a very light mayo with a dash of Old Bay or perhaps a tiny bit of finely minced celery helps bring out the flavors. Roll was not toasted or grilled, which would have been acceptable if it had been absolutely fresh, but alas it was slightly stale so some other toasting or grilling would have saved the day. So a heaping of cold but fresh crab on a stale roll. Next up fish tacos. Two per order, each with three ¾ inch squares of fish. Fish was fresh, but not a lot of flavor. A single small leaf of lettuce on one half of the flour tortilla, with a smear of sour cream on the bottom, and a drizzle of a hot sauce was fairly underwhelming. The mustard slaw was dry red cabbage with no discernible mustard. A pickle and lemon wedge rounded things out. Total cost $ 29.00

If I had one word for Peekytoe Provisions it’d be: underwhelming. The lobster roll and blueberry pie were pretty good and according to others in my party the oysters were delicious, but the other choices? Not so much. We had the fish tacos which were grievously bland and the crab cakes which were ok but not great and the shrimp tacos which, ditto. The crab bisque was downright disgusting. All in all, I would not come back.

Very helpful lady behind the counter helped me choose lobster, told me everything I needed to know on preparing it, and the cook spared some butter for me to take. Great little place. The lobster turned out great, but I will dine-in next time because this place left such a good impression.

Excellent fresh lunch! 8 family members all needed quick, affordable lunch. We were all able to find the perfect meal on the fly. I was very impressed with the freshness of the seafood. The rolls came with a delicious mustard slaw. Prices were average for bar harbor, quality and value were outstanding. Highly recommended. If 8 very different family members can all agree this was delicious than this is a good casual place.

Holy crap! What an outstanding concept for the Bar Harbor area. The food is fresh and delicious; eat in, take out, or bring you home your stash an cook it yourself. Beats the hell out of going to Hanaffords or IGA. Truely one of the best laid back deals in town without the tourist trap atmosphere.

We were strolling by looking for a quick bite, and was lured in by the 5-star reviews. The shining reviews about the lobster roll and crab cakes convinced us we should get some for ourselves, but we must have gone in there on a really bad day for them cos both dishes were so terrible we had a hard time understanding why they only had 5-star reviews. We really wanted to like the lobster roll and crab cakes, but were simply disappointed.

Everything we had here was delicious. Their soup of the day was a smoked seafood chowder and was probably the best chowder I’ve ever had! We also had the salmon sandwich which was amazing as well. Very highly recommended.

While Chicago isn’t totally devoid of seafood, I will not pretend that I am not landlocked from both coasts in my daily life. Obviously my first time in Maine is marked by my search for seafood. Look, I spent way too much money on sit down restaurants my first few nights in town looking for satisfaction and have felt very meh about it all. I came all the way for this?(well the hiking and biking, too) Enter this place. I just spent the day climbing Champlain Mtn(that psychotic trail that is iron cliff face ladders the whole way up) and after that I wanted some flipping lobster, mayo, and white bread. This place is the best. BEST. We split a crab roll and lobster roll, as well as the lobster bisque. All were perfectly sized and delicate and fresh and simple but tasty. The bisque was out of this world and not all creamy like the crap you get at a sit down restaurant. Basically, in summary, don’t waste your time and money. Get what’s good from this counter market.
