Steak ‘n Shake

I came in here the other day and the staff was very unfriendly and it took 40 minutes for them to make me my milkshake. I was there at 8 o’ clock on a Sunday night, and they weren’t even busy. Disappointed.

I have gone through the drive in several times and it was hit or miss. Sometimes everything was fine, sometimes cold and wrong.
I figured that if we ate at the restaurant it would be better so we finally made a point to go inside. What a mistake.
Filthy, dirty and nasty. Bathrooms were disgusting. We left without eating and will never go back, including drive in.
Apparently they stopped caring a long time ago.

Went there for lunch today. First off the fries were cold and there was still food on my fork! As if it was never washed. Simple mistakes. But still gross.

Ordered a chocolate/​banana side-​by-​side milkshake at the drive through. 2 blocks away I realize it’s chocolate/​strawberry. Went back and it took about 10 minutes for a new shake. Counter had used napkins right in front of employees, which didn’t get thrown away, and 2 customers walked out while I was waiting because no one seated them. Got my shake, but 2 blocks away I realize I got a chocolate shake with pieces of banana chopped up in it, as they caused a slight aneurism when they clogged the straw. Never going back.

Oh, Steak ‘n Shake; its been many years, and although we had missed you, we miss you no longer.
3 of us stopped by here for lunch on a terrible (typical Chicago winter) weather day (Cold & Sleet). We were greeted and seated right away. I LOVE their Orange Freezes, but it was a bit chilly in the restaurant, so I just stuck with a soda.
I got the chili, cheeseburger & shoestring fries.
Chili was a bit too sweet for me.
Fries were just right.
Cheeseburger? Seemed okay and I was talking away when my husband said, «your burger is not cooked all the way.» Sure enough, I look down and my burger is red in the center (the outer parts were cooked, but the center wasn’t). Damn. That’s always the worst, Cuz I spent the next few hours worrying that I was gonna get sick.
Fortunately, I did not get sick, but disappointed my burger wasn’t cooked all the way.

What happened Steak & Shake? You use to be so good to me and now you’re…well different! Haven’t been to S&S in awhile. It was freezing in this place. Started our visit at a shared booth (with the partition in the middle) and the kid on the other side keeps banging on the table. Switch seats and the waitress dumps two glasses of water on me and my phone. Move to a different table. She takes our order and we wait… the order comes its wrong. Not what I ordered. The wife sits and feels guilty because she’s eating and I’m not. Here comes my burger and it smaller. Much smaller than before. And I break off a piece of meat to taste it without the toppings and it’s bland. No flavor like before. What happen to being made from sirloin steak? You call them steak burgers right? The fries were like shoe string pieces of leather. What a big disappointment. When you go to a restaurant hungry and then you don’t feel like eating, something’s wrong. I think I’m done with Steak & Shake. They don’t care about their customers. The manager was a jerk. As I’ve said before… Culvers is still my go to place for burgers.

ALWAYS unusually cold in here, I don’t mind it. Obviously the help likes it, maybe it is to drive out the gray hairs, I don’t think they come back twice. Definitely helps keep the bacteria count down.
Shiny bright, well-​lighted, lots of windows and booths. Decent fast breakfast and lunch, heavy emphasis on fried but fresher ingredients than most faster foods. The Chili is ok.
Astounding waitstaff turnover. Most of the time you are going to get someone in training, and will never see them again.
Excellent shakes and don’t forget the ²⁄₁ happy hour 2 – 5.
Try the Mocha Shake.

Took mom here for lunch. The good news — they used the right bread for my mom’s American Melt. After that, not a lot of highlights.
Prices are cheap, I guess that’s why at 60 I was the youngest customer in the place at 2pm.
Shoestring fries were undercooked and got cold in about 30 secs. That was due to the A/​C blowing down on us, as much as the thin size of the fries, I’m sure. My choice of Chili Deluxe was a bad one. The chili is this weird brown color and pretty tasteless. Ran the calorie count when I got home and headed out for a second lap around the neighborhood. 880 calories in a bowl!
I’d say if you miss the old malt shop on the corner of downtown Bedford Falls, and you can get the Senior Center bus to stop by here, by all means don’t miss Half Pirce Shake Happy Hour, every day between 2 and 5 (both am AND pm for you insomniac seniors).
If you’re under the age of 70, you really need to get out more. There are way better burger places around and at our age, who cares whether they’re good for you?

This was my first time at a Steak & Shake. We were met at the door to be seated. Our waitress was good and the food was delicious. I was there at about 6am on a Sunday. I would go back. There is a lot more I’d like to try.

I’ve order at his place 4 times, sat down once and drive through three times. 3 out of the 4 orders I made had my order wrong. By the time I went through the drive through the last time I didn’t even pull out of the lot. Parked the car checked my food it was wrong went back in and they fixed it. Not a great place, only will go there if forced and by forced I mean forced by a group.

I was ok, but I would rather go to McDonalds

The waitstaff weren’t super bubbly, but they weren’t surly. Our food took quite a while to arrive.
I got a double cheese burger with fries, which cost about 4 bucks. My burger was quite tasty.
The place was pretty clean, including the bathrooms.
Overall my experience was pretty alright.

Very rude drive-​thur window lady. Tried to give me the wrong order twice. Then have me the correct one after a gentleman in the back was yelling to her that it was what I ordered not what she thought it was. It was a small shake. It took 10 minutes. Insanity.

Worst. Steak and Shake. EVER. Terrible service with violent food poisoning eight hours later. I had to call in sick to work the next day

I have been here countless times, like probably around 100 times. Good cheap food. Perfect first date. :)

I went here with my father on Saturday, and our experience was really great. We had a server who was very young — maybe 16, and she clearly took her job seriously. She was super friendly and absolutely took great care of us. The food was fresh and hot, and most importantly — yummy. Of course the quality at Steak n Shake is not that high; however, it should still be good for what it is. This location definitely met (and exceeded) my expectations. The restaurant seemed quite clean which is very important too. Thanks for giving us a good experience, Steak N Shake!

Great lunch here. Very reasonable prices especially when you use one of the many coupons that are in the papers. Service was very good. We had the Wisconsin butter burger, fries, chili mac and onion rings. Chili mac was surprisingly spicy.

Very friendly waitresses. Food is inexpensive, but good. Like the milk shakes the best.

Seriously, the diner was packed last night, 3 wait staff for the whole restaurant, after about 20 mins waiting around for someone to atleast ask us if we wanted something to drink, just got up and took the family to a Wendys. This is the third time in the last year I’ve gone in here and the service sucks. Get more help, staff your restaurant properly, satisfy customers. The 1 star is for service only. Generally 3 stars for the food, and 4 for their shakes. Avoid unless you have all the time in the world for your food.

Awesome middle of the road diner, great value burgers to satisfy the hungry stomach. The double steak burger, streak frank and milkshake will provide more than the required calories for the day but its very satisfying!
