Every meal I’ve had at Chimes has been good… until today. Ordered the barbecued shrimp and onion rings on the side. The rings were good, the side salad was ok. But the barbecued shrimp were about as salty as anything could be. Really inedible. The server said«the kitchen» told him that the dish was just fine… that’s the way they serve it. I asked to speak to the manager… when he finally stopped by, he said he was sorry, but his customers like it that way. No apology, no offer to bring me something else. What really got me was when he said«you all have a nice day» and turned around and left. I won’t bother him again with my business… too many other places in this great food town where the food is better and they care about their customers.

I liked the oysters promotion on Tuesdays, it is a great deal. Crawfish sautéed is delicious!

* in addition to the previous review this one is only for the poboy. It was spicy. Slightly more cheesy. And unlike other places the shrimp was a lot. I could not finish it completely — and ended up eating the shrimp and left the bread.

Here for a Saturday lunch on Memorial Day weekend. We had three adults and one child and felt so welcomed and at home. The fried alligator is something they should be & are famous for and the Boudin Balls are crazy good. Had the crawfish étouffée and seafood gumbo as an entrée. Seriously, this place was packed, amazing and delicious. If you don’t go here while in Baton Rouge, shame on you!

This was the recommended place to go for good Crawfish Etoufee and Blackened Gator tail. Nice clean place, friendly staff and the food was great. Best gator tail I’ve had yet and hard to find blackened. Most places only have it fried. Etoufee was really good but I’ve still had a few just a tad better. I was not disappointed at all.

Really excellent food. Surprising for a college drinking spot located right at the gates of LSU. We heart Baton Rouge now. The crab fingers were crazy good. The sauce was memorable. Catfish lovely. Etoufee was a great dish also.

Overall, my absolute favorite restaurant in Baton Rouge. Blackened alligator is amazing here. I’m not a seafood eater, so I can’t rate that, but the chicken breast, pork chops, and all of the burgers area superb. You wouldn’t believe it, but I’d also rate them has having the best margaritas in town!

Hands down my favorite place in #BatonRouge! Every time I go to BR I eat here. I can’t get enough of it! The oysters, the cheese fries, the red beans, the hush puppies… it’s all good! And the beer selection is epic!!! Great brunch menu too, so it would be a great place to end a weekend in BR!

We have been here a number of times during multiple visits to Baton Rouge and it has always been great. We have ordered almost everything here, from burgers to blackened gator and everything seems to be perfect here. The waiters are friendly and the atmosphere is laid back. We will definitely be back here again if we come to Baton Rouge.

Great size Po’ Boys for the price. We were able to get 2 meals out of it & left with plenty of To Go Boxes. The Pasta Chips with Spinach & Artichoke we had as an Appetizer was unique. The Fried Pasta was a bit chewy but had good flavor.

absolutely one of my favorite places in Baton Rouge. Whenever i come to town on business, maybe once every other year, this is a MUST spot for me. I have been there for Sunday brunch and for multiple lunch and dinners. Never had something i didn’t love.

Ugh, I was so excited to finally try food from Louisiana, but was extremely disappointed after being served our food FOOD — Shrimp New Orleans Style Po’ Boy: SUPERSALTY! I liked the New Orleans BBQ sauce, very garlic-y, but I could not get past the batter. I had to scrape it off my shrimp so that I can at least get my money’s worth and eat SOME of the food I ordered + At least the fries were great, perfect amount of crunchy on the outside and chewy in the inside — Fried Alligator: Again, extremely salty! Is this how food is like normally? Are my tastebuds really not designed for southern food? I have to admit– it really does taste like chicken haha LOCATION + Right next to LSU, lots of stores, restaurants and fast food surrounding Chimes + There is a designated parking lot for patrons!

Great little neighborhood spot! Didn’t feel touristy at all. Stopped in for early dinner and sat at a bar table. It was pretty full for 4:30. I started with the fried pickles and they were delish. Lightly battered pickled chips and seasoned well. A lot of places are way too salty, but not here. I also had the shrimp po boy and subbed beans and rice. It was huge! I could barely finish half. The shrimp were overflowing from the sandwich. They were also nicely breaded and seasoned well. The bread had a nice crunch and chew at the same time. Lettuce and tomatoes were a nice contrast to the fried shrimp. Beans and rice were very flavorful with big chunks of sausage. Service was attentive and friendly. *Note: If you have seafood allergies I would check on the preparation. There was a shrimp in my pickles! Bonus for me, but obviously not bonus if you are allergic!

The atmosphere here is pretty upbeat, people usually come here in groups. The Po boys are ok, the gumbo is one of a kind but not necessarily good, I’ve also tried the chicken breast which was ok. I tried the fried shrimp seafood platter and loved it-it comes with a salad, fries, and hush puppies. The boudin balls for appetizers are also great. I loved the red beans & rice with sausage. I only had problems with my cup because it was not clean at all. Other than that it’s a pretty cool place to go to grab a bite and they stay open really late so if you have a night out you can stop here because chances are they will still be open.

Chimes is a must stop when in Baton Rouge! Was craving for oysters, so we decided to come here! We had the following: — Hushpuppies — perfect crunch and texture, delicious! — Crabmeat Stuffed Mushrooms — although it was good, it was a bit too oily for me — Raw Oysters on the Half Shell — juicy, sweet raw oysters, ate two dozens all by myself… — Blackened Chicken Alfredo Pasta — blackened chicken was cooked perfectly over a bed of Alfredo pasta, delicious! Would definitely come back when in the area!

Service and beer selection was good, food was so-so. I understand that is ambience is college bar but it could use some updates. With the Unilocal ratings it had, I expected better. The blackened alligator had little to no seasoning. The red beans and rice with sausage was the best part of our meal. The gumbo was not good and the etoufee was a little too fishy tasting. Hush puppies were also ok, and came out hot which was nice.

Seafood seafood seafood! And even better. Southern seafood! I got the crabcake sandwich(fried crab, shrimp, and crawfish. drool) it was bomb. Even the wings we got to start were bomb. Waitress was new(she told us immediately) but was still bomb. Ambience was bomb. I would be here all the time if I was a LSU student because it was so bomb. All around, bomb dot com. as my man Garth Brooks would say,… Callin Baton Rouuuuuuuuuge!

If I were an LSU student, this is where I’d be every weekend for the countless beers on tap and the delicious food. I ran the Louisiana Marathon the same day I came to check out Chimes Restaurant and I’m happy this was the first place I visited to celebrate finishing my first big race. Since I just burned ~3000 calories, I ordered myself these tasty appetizer items: 1) Half-dozen raw oysters 2) Blackened Alligator 3) Duck and sausage gumbo(cup) Everything was amazing and had the distinct Southern taste I was looking for. If you’re by yourself or in a big group, absolutely get these dishes. My bartender was extra-awesome and the people I randomly sat next to made for some good conversation. I highly recommend this joint if you’re ever in Baton Rouge and looking for a great food experience.

For a bar to get 5 starts I believe it needs to exceed in all the essentials: BEER!!! Chimes had at least 60 beers on tap and dozens more by the bottle. FOOD!!! Wow, I could not recommend the blackened alligator enough(pretty salty but hey you only live once). Both the duck and the seafood gumbo were well above par with most I’ve tried at restaurants. Atmosphere is everything you’d want from a large English/Irish-esque pub. Had literally zero complaints about service. I noticed comments about how crazy this place can get when it’s busy, well it IS right on campus at LSU within walking distance from almost everywhere; what would you expect? I went twice during lunch and didn’t have to wait a minute to get a table. ^This is what a pub is all about IMO.
