Had a fix on finding some great seafood gumbo while in LA and found this spot. I must say, i will bring a cooler to get 2 of the largest sizes for take home next time!!! The bread pudding was AMAZING too! I ordered the crab cakes and was immediately disappointed when i saw that they were perfect, uniform sizes. I was very let down to see frozen, pre packaged CCs. There was little to no crab in them and the taste was below par. And the water is the WORST!!! I feel sorry for the tap drinkers in the area but i don’t rate them on the water. Service was good and friendly but if it were busy(i went at 1:30PM) i think i would have waited really long. I will be back with a cooler and a to-go order! Haha

I’ve really never had anything bad in regards to the food here. For appetizers, we start off with onion rings and boudin balls. We got our drinks within minutes of ordering, and the appetizers came out shortly after. The wait and kitchen staff work really well together. Within 20 minutes, my families sandwiches were brought out. Everything was exactly what we had ordered. All the food was so good. One sign of a good restaurant is lots of customers and they had that. Just a really good dining experience!

A family favorite. We’ve eaten here several times including today. I had fried pickles and steak Po-boy with a side of Louisiana chowder. Good service and sweet tea.

Will never return. Last week I came in to grab my pick up order and they told me 15 minutes but when I showed up I had to wait an additional 15. While I was waiting at the counter I saw a very large roach crawl from under the counter and disappear. I didn’t even really want to eat my food at that point but it’s Louisiana and I understand roaches are inevitable at some point. Also, it was a Wednesday night, not very busy so what took so long? I have only had tried this place a couple of times and enjoyed the food for the price. So I tried Prairieville location and the to go service was again bad. Will write review for them too. It’s unfortunate.

I could eat here every day. I wish they were in the shopping center next door to my office ! I could just go down the whole menu :)

Dempsey is that small family restaurant that is not fancy, but the food is good. This is my second time back. The fried food were well seasoned and crispy; the service was very casual. You seat yourself upon entering the restaurant. It felt awkward as we waited around 10 min before someone acknowledge us. I did not order per say; but ate a few bites off everyone’s plate. The«Cup and a Half» is a good choice if you can’t make up your mind. My sister got the shrimp poboy w/Gumbo. She wasn’t a big fan of the gumbo bc she said the roux was too salty, I thought it was ok. The shrimp poboy was really good in my opinion. The cheesy fries were standard American cheese melted over crispy fries. I wish they melted a blended cheese mix instead. My mother got the triple platter of shrimps, oysters and catfish. The seafood’s fried batter was good. Cornmeal batter?

One of my favorite gumbo places in town! I’ve had the chicken and sausage and the seafood gumbo– both are thick and delicious. They do not have a lot of healthy food options, so I wouldn’t recommend coming here if you’re watching your weight. However, if you’re looking for a sumptuous, fried seafood po boy, this is the place! I love the oyster and shrimp equally. I’ve also tried the French dip, which is piled high with roast beef and a side of beefy gravy. The food is a little salty but otherwise great. The inside is low frills but the staff is friendly and tentative. A great choice for a quick, yummy lunch.

We were from out of town. It appeared to have some good review. The service was a little slow, but it was a game day. This is a place the locals go with a fair amount of out-of-towners. I was here for the gumbo. It did not disappoint. I got the chicken and sausage with fried chicken. I thought it was excellent. The wife got the hamburger steak. She said it was good. We also got a side order of onion strings. They were very good.

What happened? I lived in BR before and was in town yesterday. So I stopped in. Fried catfish and fried oysters We’re greasy. Stuffed potatoe was good. Service fine. I was talking to some other people and They said, this place has really gone Down hill. Quality of the food. Just not The same as before. Hope they can correct this,

Great Chicken and Sausage Gumbo but the place really needs a good general cleaning from top to bottom. Servers are friendly but their is something to be said for the need to improve on the cleanliness of the place. The fried catfish needs to have the belly skin removed before frying(the belly skin is the black, oily, sandy portion of the fish that gives it a somewhat muddy flavor). There was no seasoning on the catfish. I could not sit there and consume a meal let alone go in and take a look at the kitchen. This would have me steering clear of this city’s best chicken and sausage gumbo. Kind of out of sight out of mind. Come on Dempsey’s invest a little back into the place.

Looking for the hole in the wall, locals hangout, and it was good. We wanted some Cajun vegetarian cuisine, and a poboy and famous bread pudding was on the menu. We ordered the fried green tomato poboy, fries, bread pudding with whiskey sauce, and sweet tea. The poboy was excellent. The pudding drenched in melted butter. one order was split and was extremely rich and sweet. Way more butter, sugar, fried food than I would consume in a week of meals, but we wanted the southern experience! Friendly staff, large protions, extremely unhealthy but damn tasty :)

I was very excited to try authentic gumbo since I make a pretty mean pot of it back home in Florida. I thought the gumbo was decent, but it was REALLY salty. I couldn’t even finish it because of the salt content. I wish I had more time to explore other gumbo options in the area, because this one was just decent at best.

Not a lot of healthy options, and the food isn’t too good in my personal opinion. Everything on the menu is fried or had a ton of bread. I ordered hopefully the most healthy thing on the menu. And it wasn’t anything great. Veggies were barely steamed. And the seafood gumbo was disappointing bc the shrimp were so small. We live in Louisiana, you have more potential to get better seafood than other places. The only good thing about this place is the service. Everyone that works there is super friendly and super tentative.

Not too bad, definitely not as good as the recommendation. I am still trying to find out what a good Po-Boy is other than just a chewy french style bread and then some fried seafood or other meat on it. My best experience with a po-boy was at a Papadeaux which there is not even one here, and it was great. I would think that being here in Louisiana they would have great po-boys, oh well. Other than that the service was good and the location appeared clean, I guess that is what makes a great restaurant here. Ok, maybe I am just spoiled being from California where food standards are very high, especially in the area of taste. I guess I will keep trying to find a good Po-Boy.

Dempsey’s gets four stars just for being around the corner and satisfying my gumbo craving even on days when the temperature is a high 97 degrees and counting… But shhh do not tell my grandmother she does not believe in serving gumbo when it’s warm out. I ordered a delicious cup of gumbo and the fried crawfish platter with, loads baked potatoes, bread and fresh seafood mornay sauce to dip it in. The mornay sauce was thick, flavorful and full of shrimp. Some places are skimpy, but not Dempsey’s! At laSt — a place that believes in the value of my dollar and my taste buds quest for fulfillment! I recommend trying this place if you like a small, intimate setting where you don’t have to wear your Sundays Best to step inside. Come on inside and order away… Most likely you’ll run into me because I’ll be back for seconds soon!

A local highly recommended this place. It is a fairly small place but with a really friendly staff! We had the boudin balls, oyster poboy and catfish ! All were fairly unique and interesting. The food is really tasty but probably not very healthy. Great service and food!

I ordered the soup and a half catfish po boy. The soup was a crawfish, corn, and potato bisque. Everything was delicious! The bread was soft and the fish was seasoned very well. We ordered to go so I can’t comment on the wait staff, but the young lady who took our order was very nice. Definitely plan on returning.

Horrible experience. Ordered a French Dip. Waitress brings me a fried shrimp poboy. I correct her. She brings it back to the kitchen. She then comes out and tells me another employee grabbed mine for another table. OK, stuff happens. I can wait. Next served to me? A roast beef poboy(thick cut roast beef, thick gravy and lettuce). I didn’t even bother sending that back, decided I would just eat it. This thing was an absolute mess to eat. It was served with a bowl of the same thick gravy that was already on it(NOT an Au jus). No idea what I would do with that, the damn thing was so sloppy to begin with. Finally I surrender to using a knife and fork to consume this mess. The word«tender» never crossed my mind. This thing was full of gristle/tendons and every other poor piece of a cow. The meat itself was thick cut and tough. The only good thing about it was the little bit of bread on top that wasn’t soaked in gravy was good. My dining companion had a «stuffed baked potato». This looked like a bowl of slop. Eventually after digging through the mess she did find something resembling what was once the skin of a potato. I was so upset with my plate I didn’t even remember if she said it was any good. After all was said and done the check comes… she charged me for a shrimp poboy on the check. Remember, she claimed someone else got my french dip? Bottom line is I don’t plan to go back again. Horrible wait staff that can’t get an order right and sub-par dishes. I hear great things about this place from other people, but what I experienced was not worth going in for. Another note: the parking lot flow is horrible and the furniture looks like it is from a banquet hall.

If you want some amazing gumbo, this is the best place in town. They also have great fried okra, good red beans, and awesome fried chicken sandwich/club. Very quaint simple type of place. Not the best for large parties but their food is the best of the best. They also have a catering truck that I’ve spotted around town
