Food — I had spinach pie which they call(spanakopita) which was amazing. It was hot and mostly even if they freeze it after baking, they have properly cooked it and the spices were just right. Nice. Chicken Breast sheesh kabob — or what In India we call chicken tikka. These are essentially chicken pieces which are marinated in a variety of manner and then grilled on skewers. The difference between tikka and kabob is essentially the spices used in preparing the meat. This was nicely done here with the pepper spice interestingly dressed properly in the chicken. It comes with salad(not that great!) and two sides. Woah. I ordered two sides. The meal is decent for more than a person. So friends could split. I ordered the falafel which was again amazing. Crispy, not over fried. And the eggplant mousaka was also brilliant. Just like what we had at home. They give you nice pita bread which is so soft dressed with basil I think. But the pita is good. Not like you buy from groceries and heat it(maybe they do that but then where do they buy that from?) And some more details — (A) Possibly the best Mediterranean/Lebanese/Persian food I have had in Baton Rouge. And mind you I have been to some of them(unless someone just tells me more or newer ones crop up). (B) The ambience isn’t real game changer either. You have the usual dining with chairs, some paintings which are interspersed between dim lit place just enough to be private but may often be less lit(especially since I like more light and I am in general a brighter kinda person).

Loved the combination platter! Prices are a little higher than Albasha, but the food is always on point and it is closer to my house.

Great food and wonderful service. The beef shawarma is lesser known of the items; however it is great. The hummus has excellent acidity to balance out the richness of the beans and oil. Their gyros and chicken are always moist and delicious.

This is my review. Romans is a middle eastern restaurant. The food is similar to other middle eastern eateries but I see it as distinct and different from them. The menu offerings and choices are slightly different than its competition and I think it tastes a little different. Having said that I still order the same as I would at other places — gyros and /or shawarma. At Romans you get 2 sides and its your choice of sides plus a side salad. On the other hand I think it’s tastes and flavor is not as good as its competition and thus the 3 star rating. Also, the charged price for what I ordered is little more expensive than the competition but the portion is not greater. The staff has always been polite, knowledgeable and attentive. Recently — last 6 months — they have increased parking availability so that’s one less concern.

My boyfriend wanted to go to this place to eat and as usual I find myself saying, ”I need to be the one to start picking places,” especially if it is my turn to buy. Ok, the place is ok. The interior was what I would say is ok, kinda small even though it looks like it was supposed to be two separate buildings, but they made it into one. Our waitress was ok. She had a pretty impressive memory because I got a platter that was made up five different things and she was able to remember every last one. I certainly couldn’t do that. The food was ok and they do give you nice portions, but there seemed to be limits on the drinks and they are almost $ 3, so money added up quickly. Like I said the food is ok, but items are kinda pricey and if you are having a good day financially, its an ok place to go to, but if you want to save some money, this is not one of those places. Would I go back? Maybe, but not anytime soon.

Hands down, the best chicken shawarma, baklava, even pilaf I have had. This qualifies for all of my 30+ visits. I dream of this food, and since I’ve moved to Colorado, I really do dream of it. There is no comparison anywhere in this state, or Louisiana for that matter. No joke, even the pilaf is top grade. I wish I knew the season blend used on the shawarma, that combined with their tried and true method of cooking make this place one of my absolute favorites.

For many years I have loved Roman’s Café. The one in South Baton Rouge is popular but I prefer this one as the location is near my house and it’s rarely crowded. Start with the Chicken or Beef combo plates and go from there. Excellent hummus and the entire menu is awesome. You can’t beat the prices!

I haven’t been here in several years. And yet it felt like yesterday. The grape leaves were delicious.

The food servings ate huge. Try the gyro and chicken combo plate with a side if hummus and baked tomatoes. This can fill up 2 people easily. Dip the wheat pita bread in the oil, balsamic vinegar and spices they have on the tables. Its amazing.

I’m a big fan of Greek and Lebanese food so I have lot of experience to compare to. I think the food at Romans is fantastic and comparable, if not better than Albashas. The chicken shwarma is tender with just the right level of spice. I love that the pita is warm and the hummus is delicious. The salad is similar to what you get at Albashas and I love the roasted potatoes. The presentation is very good with food laid out nicely on the plate, versus just being thrown on there. Service is fast, though perhaps a little slower than Albashas. I’m giving 4 stars because it is more expensive for lunch. A chicken shwarma plate costs $ 12 versus $ 10 at Albashas.

Overall, I will be back, but only if I am already on this side of town. My roommate and I were entertaining a fraternity brother of ours last night, and we wanted to go someplace that would be really delicious. We knew that the Roman’s on Perkins was really, really solid(Check out my 5-star review), but the last time I went for dinner, it wasn’t as good as I am used to, so we decided to go check out this location. It is definitely an older establishment, but they dress the place up with some paintings hung on the wall. When we walked in, just about 7, there was no one else to be seen. After ordering my usual(Gyro and Chicken Shawarma combination plate with squash casserole and hummus), the waiter brought out salads for the table. It was Romaine lettuce tossed with feta cheese and some kind of tangy dressing. I enjoyed it. Next he brought out the meals, along with a big basket of pita for us to enjoy with it. I enjoyed my platea lot. In fact, my only complaint about my entrée was that my gyro was a little overdone(not a lot, just enough to be noticeable). The reasons that I am giving this location 4-stars, as opposed to the 5 I gave the other are two-fold, the pita was not the quality that I am used to at the other location and my roommate said that his gyro was undercooked. So, I will be back, it will just have to be when I am already on that side of town.

Stopped here while on a business trip and was pleasantly surprised. The portions are huge, everything was seasoned perfectly. I had the combo shwarma plate and it was the perfect blend of meat veggies and rice. Don’t go there for atmosphere, it is a little dark and no where near fine dining. Although the staff is polite and accommodating. If you’re hungry and in the mood for good mediteranian food then this is a good place.
