Used to go here quite often. Now I remember why I stopped. Extremely long wait for take out; only to get home and find there was no soy sauce with the rolls. Probably could have overlooked this but the fish was inedible. Rolls lacked flavor and fish was not fresh. Will not be returning here.

Great food! Not a lot of customers but that’s ok. It was nice and quite. Excellent customer service and not to mention… great sushi!

Went for lunch on a wens. Completely dead. I was the only one in the building other than the workers. Ordered a lunch special. Was not that impressed. If I had my choice I’d rather go to Aji53. Better environment and food there.

The seafood is fresh, the flavors are great. I’m impressed by their sashimi salad, their bento box, their lobster roll and their fresh selection of sashimi. The prices are really good. Service is not bad either, was a bit slow at first, even though they only had 5 tables to serve at the time we were there. They got our order wrong once, when we asked for ikura sushi they brought out ikura sashimi. We didn’t complain, just ate it because it wasn’t a big deal. However, I didn’t appreciate the non-stop talking and yelling very loud across the room between the sushi chef and one of the servers, in Korean(at a Japanese sushi shop) nonetheless. It went on and on through our entire meal service.

Always great service. I had the fish in the past before I became vegetarian(2 years ago) and it was good. Lots of vegetarian options. I’ve only eaten apps and sushi, so can’t comment on the entrees. Not as hipster as Aji but always consistent. Delivery also available and prompt.

I have been to this place several times for lunch. Each time I go back I am hoping it will be better. Unfortunately that has not happened. I have had the lunch specials as well as special rolls. I found them to be ordinary and some lacking the flavor of fresh fish, leading me to believe that some of this fish may have been previously frozen. Not sure about that but I just don’t think this place is as good as some of the other local places. Miso soup was very good. House salad was lettuce with ginger dressing– nothing great. Spicy crunchy rolls are just ok. Nice atmosphere and good service don’t make up enough for me to make this a go to place.

Always good Japanese restaurant in downtown Bay Shore. Been coming here a few years and the sushi never disappoints. They also have standard cooked fare as well if sushi isn’t your thing. Not a big selection of a la carte nigiri pieces but they have fluke and eel which are my favorites. Come before 6:30 on a Friday and beers are just $ 3 or a lychee martini for $ 5. Prices are fairly reasonable as well. Service is fast and friendly. I prefer this place over the other sushi restaurants in the area.

AWFUL! DONOTWASTEYOURMONEYORTIME! The staff is rude and management does nothing to correct their employees. On one occasion asked the waiter if there was any shellfish in a dish my friend ordered since he was allergic. Guy says no, then basically brings a bowl of shrimp and scallops! And oh my God I ordered for delivery and didn’t tip they driver and he had a hissy fit and I quote«If you didn’t have money you shouldn’t have ordered». I came up to the restaurant and the manager did nothing when I told him. He didn’t get a tip because he was banging on the door and ringing the doorbell as if he was being murdered! Disrespectful and rude! I will never return and I will tell everyone of this dreadful experience.

Let’s start with the attitude and service at this place. The waiter had such a nasty attitude from the start. He brought out each appetizer within 15 minutes apart. Our main dish came out so late, some guest on our table were sitting without any food to eat. He left the appetizer plates on the table, No water refill. Not once did he ask how was our food. The food typical American sushi. We were so pissed and tipped 10 percent on the check out of courtesy. THISISTHEBESTPART. The waiter chase me out the parking lot to ask why we had left such a poor tip! UNBELIEVABLE!!! I’m in the services business and though this was surreal !

Came here after not being here for 2 or 3 years and the food is still excellent! This time we ordered the tuna salmon sushi pizza app, valentine roll, and the seared scallop and foie gras app. All were so delicious, delicate, and prepared with care. Hope to revisit again soon.

Best sushi in Long Island. They have the freshest, most delicious fish. Very friendly staff and great ambiance. The Sashimi Four Way is a must try! I highly recommend sitting at the sushi bar where you can get a look at all the wonderful dishes. They also have a fun selection of happy hour drinks. It’s my favorite date night go to!

God, what a disappointment. If you’re looking for real Japanese food, there’s plenty of competition on the Bay Shore Village strip to render this completely misrepresented letdown completely irrelevant. To be fair, the sushi is good. The fish is fresh, the combinations are creative, and nicely presented. But for actual food? Forget it. I had an immense craving for Japanese ramen after experiencing it in its full glory in Chicago recently, and scoured local Japanese restaurant menus for this not-so-instant noodle(when done right). When I saw it on Mitsui’s menu, off I went, leaving my fresh groceries behind in search of salty soup. Well, its one redeeming factor was that it had a lot of vegetables. But the broth was pretty generic(not too salty, though), the beef was stir-fried in a teriyaki-ish sauce(not bad, but inauthentic and a little tough and lacking in depth of flavor), and – the biggest atrocity of all – the overcooked noodles underneath it all WASNOTRAMEN. In fact, I had to take it all out and ask for a side of just the noodles because it was a mushy, soggy, pile of mess, which is rule #1 of ramen – do not overcook it! What I got in the fresh batch of just noodles was a starchy bowl of blah noodles that I found out were straight up Cantonese noodles(and I think the ones my mom used to force me to eat… so to add insult to injury, I just paid $ 11 to eat noodles that I used to be threatened with), and that they also use it for their soba noodle dishes. WTF?! Is it just me, or is this totally false advertisement and misleading misrepresentation?! The noodle is the star of the dish; you get that dish BECAUSE of the noodle, so you can’t just swap it out all willy-nilly! That’s as if I went to an Italian restaurant, ordered ravioli or gnocchi, and was served angel hair. It totally changes the dish! Ugh. Also, the chicken cutlet rice bowl says it has vegetables and is topped with an egg. Neither of those things are true. The«vegetables» are onions and the egg looked like mayo, with no yolk to be seen. The rice was flavorless and the entire night was a waste. 0-for-0, Mitsui. If it weren’t for the sushi, this would have been a solid 1. Total waste of money and braving the cold.

Love this place so much! I go here all the time. The staff is always so polite and cordial. They care very much about how the customers are treated. The food is delicious as well as well priced. The fried ice cream is delicious!

Mitsui as said in previous comments is truly overlooked by Aji. Being a bay shore local, I can say I have been guilty of just going to Aji because of the norm it has become. After trying out Mitsui, I can tell you from personal opinion that this is my to go to sushi spot going forward. The food is truly fresh, and more flavorful. My personal flavor is the mango roll. The amount of flavor on this is amazing, combined with their homemade sauce it truly sets the bar high. The experience when coming to Mitsui is about the food, if you’re a foodie I would suggest to give Mitsui a try. My suggestion to management would be to try to make the place more upbeat– trow some top 40 stations on the speakers and promote some happy hours specials. You guys have the food part down, now just work on the experience which is sadly a big part of the«sushi experience»

Good food bad ambiance. I dined in one of their booths with a friend where it was quiet and no one around so that we can talk. Within minutes the staff occupied the other booths talking loudly and belching even louder. Soon after they decided to turn on the restaurant radio system. This took about 5 minutes. 5 minutes of the radio turning on and off at a very high volume.

Mitsui is so overlooked compared to other sushi restaurants in the area. On Main St., it’s the Jan to Aji 53’s Marcia. I ate here one Saturday night after I attempted to enter the packed out Sumou and didn’t have the balls to brave my way through the throngs of people at the aforementioned Aji. The last time I stepped foot in this place was when it first opened in 2007, so needless to say, it had been a while. There were plenty of tables open, and save for one patron, the pretty bar area was empty. The space gives off good vibes, and jazz was playing throughout dinner — a welcome change from the predictable house/chillwave music that many of the local sushi spots pump during the weekends. Food was fresh, beer was reasonably priced, and service left nothing to be desired. All-in-all, I really enjoyed it here. I think I’ll be settling for Mitsui more often in the future.

We came in at about 2:40pm the Wed before july 4th, and there were a few tables occupied so we weren’t too concerned with the time even though we knew they closed at 3pm. I figured since it was a holiday weekend and there were tables occupied they would stay open later? They asked us to order as soon as we sat down(even before they brought us any water), as the cook was apparently leaving and they needed to get the order in as soon as they could. It was really off putting as it seemed like they weren’t really willing to serve us — which was a big difference to what we saw at Tallulah’s next door, which was packed with people and they weren’t turning anyone away, even though they also close at 3pm! Anyway, the food was pretty good — I ordered the fish katsu bento box, and my husband had the chicken katsu. The bento box was a huge portion and I really enjoyed it — the service was just on the borderline of being rude. A couple of girls were sat after us and they are also yelled at to order as soon as they could. They’re usually way nicer(it’s our 3rd time there), so we know we caught them at an off time. So come early for lunch, and hit them for dinner.

There are a lot of sushi options in and around Bay Shore and Mitsui is one if my favorites. I recommend the kiwi roll & mango avocado roll. The service is typically good and I enjoy the atmosphere. I always love Aji, but Mitsui is a less expensive and more laid back.

I read the positive reviews for Mitsui so I took a little drive down here. Was it worth the drive? I am not so sure. The sushi at Mitsui is typical Americanized sushi. Lots of ingredients for a small amount of fish. Sometimes this works, other times, not so much. /End review.
