WOWWOWWOW. I wasn’t expecting the flavors, the quality and the style of presentation I got at Sugas for a lunch while on a business trip. The ambiance is decidedly top drawer, complete with a small stage for small jazz combos. It looked so choice I wish I could have stayed longer in Beaumont for an evening performance! The food? It’s amazing. I had the lunch portion of a shrimp grits/bisque style dish with rice, as per recommendation of the waitress. She was right, it was absolutely amazing! The price was also reasonable, and I was warmly welcomed and thanked on my way out. This place would be jam packed with people if it was in Houston. And its a darn good reason to visit Beaumont!

The other and I have had dinner and brunch here. For dinner I enjoyed the lamb shank. Great dish. For brunch, chicken fried steak. It was also a great dish. Bartenders are spot on with craft cocktails. The service is also very good. The atmosphere with live jazz takes this place over the top. It’s a great restaurant with a lively atmosphere. We will be back.

Visiting Beaumont for the first time for a graduation. Not many places to choose from but this place did the trick. Loved the live jazz music and amazing atmosphere. Our server was very courteous and friendly. We had the crab cakes that came with fried green tomatoes. Pretty good but was missing something. We also had the stuffed tilapia with crab sauce, it was delicious. We finished the meal with an amazing bread pudding with bourbon sauce.

This restaurant is overall average or below. We didn’t get what we expected for these high-end prices when we visited during the week of 9 May. We reserved a of 14 there, on a Wednesday evening, which was not very busy. The staff were genuine, nice, accommodating and very friendly; but the level of restaurant operations competence was very low. I brought an international group there, hoping to impress them. The two people in our party who ordered duck complained that it was tough and dried out. My steak was overcooked. They made a mistake with the sauce on another steak; we ordered the crab meat/hollandaise sauce — they brought the steak with a red wine sauce. There’s an impressive beer list, but the staff didn’t know which ones they had in stock. We ordered drinks, then 15 minutes later the waiter returned to us to say the beers we ordered weren’t in stock. Please Sugas, for the sake of your financial vitality, please check your inventory before the dinner shift starts! I’m sorry to give a bad review. You’ll see many of my other restaurant reviews are very positive, but unfortunately our experience that evening did not warrant a positive review. Sugas can be good if you have a small group. But if you need to impress important colleagues or clients, I recommend going to the Grille(by Arfeen and Smith) instead. Again sorry for the bad review. PS: 16 May, I heard they just lost a key cook and manager. Maybe that was the problem when I was there.

We went for Mother’s Day weekend on a Saturday at 5:30. It is a lovely place, great ambience but the dinner selections we chose were terrible, except for the fried chicken. I had stuffed chicken; it had a bone in it, was tough and had a strange texture. Couldn’t tell if it was dark or light meat. A breast would have been easier to eat. It came with a crab stuffing which was dry, strangely sweet and too salty. I was very disappointed about that. The veggies served with this were ok but nothing special. My husband and mother had tea brined chicken. It was pretty good but nothing special. It was served with mashed potatoes which tasted old; definitely not fresh and hot, and not creamy at all. The gravy on top, however, was good. The chicken came with greens, creole style. You would have to develop a taste for the way it was cooked. My daughter had a 6 oz filet which had little flavor. I believe the meat itself was $ 45 and the sauce was extra, as were the sides. She had fresh spinach and she said it was terrible and she was not able to eat it. The best thing we had was an appetizer sampler. It had a crab cake, fried green tomatoes and goat cheese shrimp and these were very tasty. We waited 30 minutes for our food once we finished the appetizer. That seems a little extreme. They had a sax player, but he didn’t start until 6 pm and we were informed that we were expected to pay 5 $ extra for the entertainment. The guy was great, def worth the extra $$; however, at a place this pricy, entertainment should not be extra. We will not be going back to this restaurant.

Travelling thru Texas, found this place, and so glad we did. We were a little road weary and not exactly dressed for this place, but the hostess made us feel welcome, as did Steven, the manager. We had called ahead and made a reservation. Our waiter, Evan, was a nice young man who made it a point to get to know us and to also explain the menu. We each had a drink, an appetizer, an entrée, and coffee. The bill came to about $ 120, with tip. It was well worth it. My shrimp and grits was perfect! I also had the crab cake with fried green tomatoes and stuffed artichoke heart. Brother had the fried green tomato stack and Creole stuffed chicken. The bread was brought piping hot to the table and was like eating bread clouds! I didn’t give 5 stars because brother’s coffee was not hot when served and his chicken was a little dry. I would have loved to try some of the homemade ice cream shown in the case near the front, but we were too full! The service was impeccable. Live music was nice, but a little loud. It made it difficult to carry on a conversation. I really hope I travel this way again so I can come back to Suga’s!

Tried Sugas for the first time! So disappointed in the service provided… After pouring water we were completely ignored for 15 min. After every attempt to wave down the server was ignored, we left having only water in our empty stomach … I was so looking forward to trying the Diablo shrimp Bloody Mary

Delicious shrimp and goat cheese appetizer, nice moderately priced wine selection. Delicious apple bourbon glazed pork chop with a andouille and crawfish cornbread dressing and greens. The garlic spinach was outstanding. Deconstructed wedge got two thumbs up as well. We’ll be back. Great service.

We were in town visiting family and had a craving for some creole. Husband and I thought, hey let’s try a new place for lunch and get a couple of drinks! Well, we get there and I forgot my wallet. The waiter looks at me and says, sorry but you look 15 or 16 and chuckled a bit. Excuse me? Last I checked I was 25. I wasn’t upset about him refusing to serve me alcohol, because that is his job. It was just a completely rude and unnecessary comment to come from wait staff. The manager came by asking how everything was. I mentioned what happened and he whispered something like«I’m sorry» then walked away. We got no apology from the waiter and heard nothing about it again. Food was no good, and I’m not just saying that because of my bad experience. Oysters weren’t fried all the way(slimy on the inside and breading falling off), and my husbands plate had 4 or 5 dinky«duck fingers» and a WHOLE lot of French fries so the plate at least looked like it had something on it. He was still hungry after we left so we ended up going to another restaurant. Do yourself a favor and go somewhere else where the food is good and wait staff is nice and professional!

The food was very costly and it was terrible I have never been so tempted to call the chief over to give him a good talking to. The only two things that were positive were the home-made ice cream, and the entertainment. Mickey Smith on the tenor saxophone made the environment enjoyable, Mickey and nothing else.

Do not book an event at this restaurant. They cancelled our rehearsal dinner reservation two weeks after we made the reservation. This is the rudest restaurant manager ever. Never step foot in this place ever

I was in the downtown area and wanted to try out something different for lunch. The décor and ambiance of the restaurant had a jazzy feel to its atmosphere. The restaurant also has live jazz music and a live band during their dinner hours. We all wanted to get a sample of some of their best southern cuisine entrées so I ordered the steak and eggs, lobster frittata, and the classic shrimp and gritz. All three dishes were so good and came out fresh and HOT! The steak was a tad over done when I asked for medium. The lobster frittata was good, it melted in your mouth. The shrimp and gritz was buttery and shrimp was seasoned well. The service was excellent and even management came to check up on us to see if everything was fine. I heard that this place is open for brunch on Sundays and they have live music playing all day so I guess I’ll have to come experience it for myself.

The worst service and meal I have ever had. Went for Sunday brunch. Waited 45 min to be sat. Once sat had to find someone to serve us after waiting 15 min, which since it was a self serve buffet makes no sense. Got a piece of fried chicken that I cut open and blood starting running out. My husband ordered two different drinks both he did not drink. After asking twice to speak to the owner we were told management was too busy. Our waitress finally brought us our check and informed us due to the service she would not charge us for the drinks(which were not even consumed). I normally don’t complain but I guarantee I will never go back and strongly encourage the same to the rest of southeast Texas.

We went for the sunday brunch and it was great. The food is delicious. Highly recommend the shrimps and grits(spicy!) and the pancakes. Plus, we enjoyed the live music. The kindness of the staff is remarkable.

We were passing through and stopped in today for lunch. Giving it 5 stars due to the size of the town and food we’ve experienced In the region. Amazing meal compared to the others. Great atmosphere and everyone was friendly. My boyfriend really loved his country fried steak! I tried it too and I must say I’ve never liked it until today. I had the catfish with rosemary fries and coleslaw, which was light and fresh. We each had a cup of soup, the gumbo and the lamb stew. Best lamb stew I’ve ever had. I really enjoyed this place.

Went for sunday brunch, sat in the patio, very nice ambience. nice terrace with relaxing fountain and plaintain trees give it a tropical sophisticated vibe. They had live acoustic music inside which gave the inside a nice feel. The waitress was very nice and attentive without being overly attentive. Very good service. The food was high quality and great tasting. Tried the lobster fritatta, strawberry crepes, Steak&eggs mornay and the pecan waffle and i was impressed with all of them. awesome tasting food. would definitely recommend this place to anyone.

I recently stopped by Sugas on my way to Houston. I checked Unilocal to find out what restaurants in Beaumont were good and open for lunch. I think Sugas would have been much more impactful if I had came at dinner. It looked like they had a stage for live music, which would have been fun. The décor of Sugas is upscale and very nice. Unfortunately, the food did not stand out as anything spectacular, and I was left unimpressed. One thing about Sugas that I was impressed with was the waitstaff. Our waiter was very friendly, and even wrote my cousins’ name and drew flower on her styrofoam cup. Overall, Sugas was a decent option for my commute through Beaumont, but I would not recommend it for lunch. I would come back to try the dinner and experinec the live music.
