Excellent service from the moment we walked in. Autumn was great and gracious. Menu items were interesting and food was well seasoned tender and on point. Homemade sauces including ketchup was a pleasant surprise. I will be back.

After eating at The Fig Pig, I had to write a brief review. I didn’t think a place of this caliber and creativity existed in Beaumont — I was very pleasantly surprised. I had the Pig Bowl… phở with squid ink noodles(made to order and perfectly cooked), pork butt and pork belly topped with a duck egg. To top it off, the dish was served with bone marrow accompanied with watermelon radish shavings on the side. To say it was unique was an understatement… I was skeptical at first, but very impressed with how the flavors came together. The atmosphere was very charming and romantic as well, and the service was quite attentive. Whenever I’m in Beaumont this will have to be my first stop — well done!!!

Let’s start by saying that we drove for over an hour to eat here on a Sunday after church. It was worth every minute in the car. We started with biscuits and assorted butters to go along(jelly, peanut butter and maple butter). Wow! Then we branched into more traditional lunch choices and none of us were disappointed. My kids had a burger with fries and grilled cheese with tomato soup. I had a patty melt and it was ridiculous; thick bacon, onion saucy something, melted cheese, Texas toast and a juicy burger. Yum. My husband had meatloaf that came served on grits, mashed sweet potatoes and alongside some squash. Delicious. He finished his meal with a milkshake made with in house homemade ice cream. I say he finished his meal but we all got our share. If you’re looking for a gourmet twist on some classic favorites and little touches, like homemade sauces, you must try The Fig Pig. Oh, and the building is old and beautiful. Don’t let it be off putting, the atmosphere is casual and kids are absolutely welcomed.

Let me throw my weight around and say none of the negative reviewers on here have more than thirty reviews on Unilocal so I have to doubt their sincerity just a bit. Particularly if you have less than ten reviews… Don’t go casting shade on a new place just because you can. I’ve been to the Fig Pig three times in the last month or so. The menu seems to lean on the luscious pork belly but with a pig in the name what do you expect? My husband tried the BLT(B for pork Belly) and said it seemed like a really great roasted duck in flavor. His fries were amazing and I had to share them with him and we enjoyed trying to figure out which of the House sauces we liked the best with them. I’m a fan of the aioli! I had the Belly Bowl with its fried egg and you guessed it, more perfectly prepared pork belly on a bed of rice. We will be back, we love how friendly and down to earth the waitress is and how close the place is. The venue is a huge historic house that hasn’t seen many updates in the last decade but the natural light that streams in the large windows has a gracefulness that is never out of style.

I ordered the braised beef short ribs with butternut squash and mashed potatoes(half white, half sweet potato). The beef was overcooked, and my knife could barely get through. I had to wait for the knife because our waitress did not drop off the food nor did she check on us after the food was delivered. Not only was it tough, the meat needed salt and pepper or any extra flavoring. I have nothing good to say about the meat. We ordered the French fries, which were very tasty and perfectly fried. My friend ordered the meatloaf and replied that it was sub-par. If our service had been more pleasant and professional, we might have considered a return visit. The waitress was NOT attentive and continued to apologize throughout the night for things I had previously been unaware. The table next to us asked the waitress if she were alone on the Saturday shift and she explained that only one waitress was needed. I disagree. I hope the Fig Pig evolves soon because the intimate setting offers much potential in a restaurant.

The Fig Pig is a welcome addition to Beaumont and replaces an iconic island in the culinary wasteland, Bryan’s 797. I will certainly miss Bryan’s, but the fact that the Fig Pig jumped in to fill the void was a relief. That said, there are some issues. Before I get into them understand that unlike Bryan’s, the Fig Pig is «farm-to-table» and also a bit«nose-to-tail». These are faddish designators and more of an approach to gastronomy than a style. I was hoping to encounter something similar to the Salty Sow in Austin, which is a spectacular eatery, but the Fig Pig came up lacking in some areas. I will also point out that the Fig Pig caters to gluten sensitive folks, which is again a welcome addition to Beaumont. Not to worry, I personally worship at the Temple of Gluten(Panera) and found the Fig Pig equally friendly to us gluten-piggies. OK, the Good, the Bad and the Ugly. The Good was the incredibly delicious BG sliders(see my photo) and thrice-cooked fries. I would have put the fries under«ugly» since I was burping them all afternoon. This is because they serve you a bucket of them! The hellish thing is that no amount of self-control can stop you from eating the entire bucket. You also get a small tray of six dipping cups of various aioli to dip the fries in or add to your burger. One thing I did not like was that the kitchen slathered the mayo aioli(forgive me Julia) on the burgers and should have let me decide which one to add. Also good was the, somewhat signature, bone marrow with toast. We took the hollowed out bones home to the dogs who relished them as well. There’s nose to tail for you! The bad were the beets in the Beet and Farm Greens salad that my wife had. They were pickled and overpowered the salad. In fact, when I saw the salad on the menu, I immediately assumed they were roasted as that is the way you do them if you want to develop maximum flavor while retaining health benefits(think ‘Farm to Table’). Anyway, I asked for a side of just the beets and the waitress(who gets into the ‘good’) said the kitchen could do that, so, my bad. The beets, on the side and in the salad were small diced and heavily pickled – just not good at all. The Ugly was the Pig Bowl House Phở served with Squid ink noodles. The broth was tasteless and the noodles nasty. Another reviewer was negative about this as well. With the incredibly good Vietnamese restaurants in SET, the Fig Pig should steer clear of this as their competition does it much, much better. The other ugly was the hot tea. Imagine tea as strong as coffee. Although they will try to accommodate you(see ‘beets’ above) they do not know how to do hot tea. I put this under the ugly because this is one of those simple things that a good restaurant knows how to do. Get a couple of those stainless steel teapots and a Bigelow Tea Sampler box and have done with it. As I said in my review of Le Ren in Nederland: give the place a try, let’s try to keep it alive. Fig Pig needs to work on some little things and revisit some menu items.

Cute atmosphere. We were the only table on a Friday night and they treated us like royalty. We had both the sliders for appetizers and they were AMAZING! For entrees We had the Meatloaf, very different flavor but good. I wasn’t crazy about the homemade ketchup used on top. The gumbo was good for restaurant gumbo. The dessert was incredible! Fried Cheesecake! Would recommend this place for sure. Hope they can get more people in on Friday nights.

Just tried out the new restaurant in Beaumont during its soft opening. The appetizers(bone marrow and BLT sliders) were delicious. Entrees needed some work. Short ribs were dry and the«phở» ink noodles were clumped together and inedible. And I would rename it ramen not phở. Would not recommend it. Customer service was great though. This place has definite potential. Willing to return in a couple months to see how they progressed
