The Gothic has been re-imagined and recreated by Matthew Kenney, Scott Winegard, and a creative team as Arata. and it is now open.

Wow, best vegetarian restaurant anywhere hands down. My wife is a vegetarian, I am not but I brought her here for our anniversary knowing she would be pleased. If more places created food like this I could be full time veggie for sure. It was amazing, please consider opening a sister restaurant in Portland or up and coming Biddeford. As vibrant as the Portland restaurant scene is it is missing amazing vegetarian food like this. Brilliant cocktails and a delicious menu deserve 5 stars every time.

Totally unexpected. Saturday brunch of superbly prepared quality foods on proper quantity and apoealing to the eye and tastebuds. Menu assortment rxcellent. I had roasted brussels sprouts with roasted seeet red peppers and a side of oven roasted potatoes. My guest had hummus, and assorted beg platter and flat bread. All items filled with flavor seasoned properly qnd proper temperature. Deserts of apple crisp and mini chocolate cake all and teas fresh and flavorful. This is what food should taste like. brunch for 2 was $ 69 plus tax and tip. Alcohol available but that brings check to almost 3 digits. but:… Worth every penny. Service impeccable.

We are visiting Belfast from New York and have eaten at The Gothic the past two evenings. We have had two of the best meals that we have had in a long time. It is not about this being a vegetarian restaurant; it is about incredibly excellent food. My wife and I were stunned to find a restaurant of this quality in Belfast Maine. I think we will go back tomorrow night.

Highly recommend for modern, elevated vegetarian fare! Did the chefs tasting with wine pairing, which did not disappoint. Don’t come super hungry, as most things are on the lighter side, but in general it’s enough food to leave satisfied. Great service from knowledgeable wait staff.

We only tried the Vegan dishes, which they had a great selection of, and we really enjoyed our dinner here. The fritters were amazing, the vegan cheese were great, the tomato dish we could have skipped, but the cabbage dish was awesome! The chocolate cake was also good… Yeah, it’s somewhat pricy, but you get what you pay for.

Gorgeous presentation showcasing vegetables. If you came to town to go to Chase’s Daily and can’t get in, just head a few doors up the hill. The inventiveness and attention to detail is evident. I had house-made kombucha, the hibiscus tea was also lovely. Open faced cheese sandwich over fig chutney was perfect for a tween, and the mezze plate was plenty of food, and expertly seasoned. The curved zinc bar is very pretty and their cocktail list is above standard. I ding a star because their vermouth was sitting out(fortified wine, barkeep! belongs in the fridge).

Not sure why people are giving this 5 stars. I feel like this place is for people who don’t know how to cook and are willing to pay 15 $ for 5 pieces of arugula. Fantastic presentation, great taste, but overpriced for portions of raw vegetables.

Just go there. It’s an exquisite experience. We are vegans, and we were looking for a passable dinner. The Gothic far exceeded our expectations. Do it. The chef came to our table and chatted; he was warm and charming. The waitstaff was attentive, informed and lovely.

My wife and I headed back to The Gothic again this summer and the food really is amazing. However, the entire staff had turned-over once again and they lacked sufficient knowledge about the dishes being served. They were enthusiastic, but less than prepared. For such great food, I just feel like the service should match it. Oh well, we will go again next summer and hope for a better experience. Good luck!

Highly recommended! Sunday brunch frittata is a party in your mouth! Breakfast sandwich was beautifully presented and delicious! We also tried the chocolate mousse; yum, yum, yum! Staff is accommodating and friendly. The Chef, originally from Lowell, MA, has worked around the world refining his craft. Moved to Belfast Maine 2 years ago. This is a gem on the Main Street! It is worth your time to travel to Belfast, Maine to eat at The Gothic!

As a non-vegan, I can truly say this was unbelievably fantastic food(& great service). Mushroom pâté with pickled mustard seeds, gluten free ravioli, . Check this out if you’re in Belfast!

Amazing dinner here last night! Finally, a place in Maine that not only understands vegan/vegetarian cuisine but celebrates it with local, fresh ingredients, creativity, and flavor. Instead of your typical veggie menu(heavy on meat substitutes and dairy), The Gothic takes humble fruits and vegetables and, with deft seasoning & presentation, puts them center stage on the plate. Almond gazpacho with pickled rhubarb and cucumber, yes please! Sweet potato fritters with nettle chutney, so good! I could go on, but the experience is better had first hand.

I was looking for something different for lunch. Something fresh that wouldn’t put me to sleep for the afternoon. I wasn’t disappointed. The smoked cheddar and flax crackers was delicious and complimented the chic pea soup perfectly. Everything made in house. Just healthy and full of taste. I’ll be back for more! Ryan and Colin are on top of their game and cool too

I wanted to give this place a try now that it is purely vegetarian and we were all delighted with our meals. There were a couple dishes with wild foraged mushrooms, which were delish. I also really enjoyed the non-alcoholic cocktails and fresh juices.

Were here tonight w/family f. dinner. Best vegetarian fare we’ve experienced yet. Had the cheese plate w/fennel crackers – sublime-as well as the spiced nuts & mixed pickles w/drinks – excellent. Hubby had the beet soup & raved – he is not usually a veggie fan. Daughter and I had the fabulous kale salad, redolent of smoked peppers & pistachios. I had the seared cauliflower w/ratatouille, daughter & granddaughter the mushroom tagliolini. Hubby had the Swiss chard ravioli. Desserts were also fab: hazelnut semifreddo, natalie’s espresso & choc. sorbet. Waitstaff attentive & knowledgeable. This one’s a keeper!

This was a hidden gem in the Belfast scene. My boyfriend and I stopped in and had the best experience. I’m the vegetarian and he’s a meat eater, but he was blown away. We ordered the chefs tasting, and left full but wanting more due to the creative flavors and presentation. We will be back!

What a special find this place was. Who knew dining of this caliber was available in Belfast? Our evening started with a cocktail called a Warm Up — a rye concoction mixed with jalepeno and cayenne infused Aperol and house pressed cider. We ordered a dozen oysters which came with champagne ice, which was a marvelous addition to the fresh local oysters. Served on the side was fresh baked whole wheat sourdough bread. Next came the appetizers, and my father and I both had the smoked rutabaga soup with cashew crème fraîche. Amazing. Smokey, slightly spicy. A real highlight. We’ve probably talked about it at least ten times since last night. For my main course I ordered from the vegetarian menu — unusual for me, but the dish sounded too good to pass up — a mushroom gratin with a farm egg, truffle cashew crème and kale. It was quite a blend of textures and flavors, and was beautifully presented. Desert was a citrus olive oil cake with a glass of Fernet Branca. Definitely a meal to remember and is not to be missed by tourists and locals alike. If I lived in Belfast it would be a weekly trip. The prices are definitely reasonable for the quality and quantity you get at this restaurant, and the service was top notch. Our waitress was Katherine, and she was very knowledgeable about the menu and food sources, and extremely attentive and professional. I will be trying these recipes at home!

So amidst the many places, all very very busy, in Belfast all offering standard fare and comfort food — we found this little place up the road, at the corner with a great Menu, approach and style! We started our day in Rockport enjoying breakfast at a cute little diner when some very nice folk told us they herd of a great place that just opened. They did not remember the name but describe the place as shaped like a flat iron — in the corner. So we found the Gothic and glad we did!(The really need better signage!) The menu is small, with some great flavors and choices. Lovely wine choices. I had a Lobster Roll that was full of wonderful Lobster meat served in a house made roll — the roll reminded me of an éclair shell in substance and flavor. I loved the homemade sauces and ketchup(and that is way to informal for the wonderful tomato flavor it delivered) with the fingerling potatoes. My wife had the flat bread that was outstanding! The service was friendly, attentive and caring. No issues with some changes like swapping out arugula for spinach. That’s what make a good place a great place! If we head back to this part of Maine and Belfast — we will go back. Go there. Its a step up in good food in a cool place.
