Very busy night at shorts. We were told we would have an hour to an hour and ten minute wait. After 2 hours and 15 minutes and seeing we were far from being seated, we left. If you are going to have a waiting list, make an overly conservative estimate on wait time or go back to first come first serve. Especially when kids are involved. Probably won’t go again with kids.

So, I don’t think I have ever waited two hours for a table and had the best time ever! The beer, amazing, of course! But the food and service deserve a special shout out! LOVESHORT’S!!! Everytime I come here, it is amazing! Also, honorable mention, the cidar, absolutely perfect!

Joe! You monster! You killed everything good on the menu! Where is set it on fire? Where is transdermal celebration? Why in the world did where I am right now survive the menu cuts? Drove 45 minutes from TC for transdermal celebration and ended up having disappointment for dinner instead! Sincerely, revolted regular

I visited Shorts mid-day during the week. The place was hopping. I had the Sketches of Winkle sandwich and washed it down with a Local’s Citra. The sandwich was massive and delicious. The herbed tomato aioli made the sandwich. The beer was also very good. Local’s Citra was somewhat hoppy but tolerable for someone who doesn’t particularly like IPAs. They also offer a generous beer sampler. A definite must-stop if you’re in the area.

By far the best craft brewery in Bellaire, MI(though it’s also the only one XD) They had so many beers on tap, I could have easily done 3 flights, but I held off. The IPA was my favorite, I forget the exact name but I think it was hoopla something. For food I got the chicken wrap with chips, which was pretty good. If I’m ever back up here I will definitely go back, I think they have live music too

Visited Short’s with some friends for the first time recently. Had their Bumblebee aka Mac n cheese, and it was delicious! According to their menu, they have a different type of Mac n cheese every day, and when I went the special was the garlic and herb. It looks like it was baked and then topped with Panko bread crumbs which made it even better. My friends got a couple rounds of flights and liked one of the smokey brews the best. Would definitely come back!

This used to be my favorite place to visit for lunch or dinner when we ski at Schuss. Our last visit really may be our last. We were told a half hour for a table when we arrived at 7:30. After visiting their merchandise store next to the brewpub we checked to see how much longer and got an apology and another half hour. So we ordered a beer and a small appetizer. At this point we didn’t have a backup plan of somewhere else to go. We weren’t seated till almost 9. The selection of beers was mediocre. Not nearly the variety we used to enjoy. The 2 pizzas my husband and kids ordered came out almost 5 min. before my salad. It’s sad to see a place you used to enjoy start having to offer so many apologies. I might give them another chance on a weekday. But never again on the weekend.

Unless you have been locked up you should know joe shorts knows how to make beer. Im bias because its my favorite brewery. Probably the best sandwich i have ever eaten. Im pretty sure that they only hire hipsters. Bring your growlers.

Best bar /restaurant in Michigan! GREAT gourmet sandwiches, pizzas, and more. Amazing Joe Shorts micro-brew. We take the Growlers home with us to Schuss Mountain and sit in our hot tub to enjoy. Live Music is the icing on the cake!

Five for the beer/cider. Four for the pizza. Three for the service. Soft Parade is high up my list of all time favorite microbrews, which is really something for this Kalamazoo girl who’s within arms reach of probably 20 breweries at all times. I am a fan of crisp, hoppy IPA’s and they have an exhaustive list of accessible, creative brews that changes regularly. They’ve added ciders to their repertoire and their Octorock is another one that slides down so easy it’s embarrassing. No beer snobbery needed, it’s easy to find something on their drink menu you’ll like. I don’t think I’d drive from Traverse City for their pizza again. My hubs and I split a specialty pizza with pepperoni, onions, olives and sausage and the kids shared a half-pepperoni half-bacon. The crust on their pizza was thinner, which I prefer, although the thicker crust wasn’t offensively thick. Great flavor – nice and spicy, sweet, oniony sauce. Both kids finished their pizza, and it’s tough to get them to eat well on vacation. The service was a little indifferent. I get that this is a destination, especially in a resort town, and the locals can be a little«meh» about the tourist trade. However, delivering the check and then disappearing for almost 20 minutes is not my favorite. Neither is having to ask for straws for water, or a second drink. It wasn’t terribly busy when we got there but it got increasingly so as we sat. Lots of skiers coming in off the hill. Pleasant, great drinks. Maybe pick yourself up a six pack, readily available almost everywhere, get some exceptional takeout, and forget the service.

I have been wanting to visit Shorts for the longest time. I have been a giant fan of their beer for several years. It did not disappoint. We had the smoked platter and shared one of pizzas made to order. Both were great. However we came for the the beer and the beer had. Both the wife and I had a flight and followed up with a pint. They brew some stunning beers. Prices for the flights and the food was very fair. The only complaint is they don’t have some of the gourmet and reserve flavors for sale outside the pub. Also wanted to mention the Shorts gift shop. Nice stuff but a bit pricey.

I suggest this place to everyone even if you are not a beer fan. They now have cider on tap as well. The service is amazing and the beers on tap and there are tons are great. I have yet to have a beer or cider from them at the bar that I did not love. The food is great as well they have tons of snacking foods to eat and enjoy. The pizza sticks are my favorite they are hot and spicy. I also suggest going on a week day or early in the afternoon. It can get pretty busy in there.

Beer was ok, not amazing. Ambiance *IS* amazing, and it’s cool that Short’s has a designated space for eclectic music tucked away in Bellaire. The food was fine. We had the pulled pork nachos, and the sour cream-lookin’ stuff was weird. I can’t explain it, but it just didn’t work together. Maybe too much fake lime? Something was off. Anyways, the food was probably 2.5 stars, the beer was 3 stars, but the fact the the male bartender was dressed — complete with wig and tas — as a female barmaid propelled this rating to 4 stars. Additionally, they were real cool about my nut allergy. Overall, it was a good time. Also overheard by a woman from a group that seemed to be coming back from a golf trip, «um, do you make anything that’s kind of like a domestic?» She looks quizzical. Bartender: «we brew our own beer right here, so we are domestic, and I bet we’ve got the style that you’re looking for, too — maybe something a bit lighter?» She was pleased. I probably would’ve made a smart comment to her, but the bartender was super polite and catered to her asinine request! True professionalism dressed up in blonde pigtails and fake boobs.

We liked it so much that we went here twice while staying with friends. The atmosphere was fun, and there was a good variety of food to choose from on the menu. Loved trying the flights of beer. Nice way to taste and try and figure out which ones to buy to take home. Our fav? The Huma Lupa Licious. Yum!

One of my favorite stops in Northern Michigan! I’ve been coming to Short’s since they opened and it’s so exciting to see a local brewery have such success. They have great beer, awesome people, live music and incredible sandwiches. For being nestled in such a small town with a primarily summer crowd, it can be any day of the week, any time of the day, any time of year and Short’s will be busy — this speaks volumes! I HIGHLY recommend the White Pepper Sandwich. It’s pretty incredible. Wash it down with any of their beers, they have something for everyone’s taste.

Pretty good– I was fortunate enough to get a table on a Friday night, our waiter was friendly and accommodating as well as knowledgable. I sampled 10 brews and was satisfied with most; though some were not my style and very bitter. We were as well pleased with the quality of our food order, clean fresh tasting with simple plating technique. All in all, this«hopping» brew house is quality and fun.

Wow, I stopped in twice in my last trip to Michigan and Shorts was standing room only both visits. At 4:30PM and 6PM on a Tuesday and Wednesday! Very popular with the under 8 and over 65 sets. Griping aside, the pretzel app was really tasty and a deal at $ 6. Ummmm, beer cheese. Also the beer is as good as ever; I especially liked the Sticky Icky Icky IPA on this visit, and old favorites Huma Lupa Licious, Bellaire Brown, and the Soft Parade. Maybe next to the new bottling facility in Elk Rapids they can open a tasting room for those of us 21 – 50? Just kidding. Sort of. Keeping my review 5 stars for the great beer.

Tonight must have been a bad night during the wrong season for us. 35 minute wait on a Tuesday night in a small town, two flights to split, a 9″ jalapeño/pineapple pizza, and a Puerto Rican Power quesadilla. For my gf, the pizza had far too much cheese. For me, the quesadilla had the driest chicken meat I’ve ever had in my life. Like, leftover thanksgiving turkey meat dry. No flavor, and not enough cheese to hold it together. Furthermore, the salsa wasn’t a traditional red salsa for dipping — it was just diced tomatoes. With the chips and beer, this meal was almost too dry to finish. The beers were fine — we got ten we haven’t had before. The problem for us was that they were all summer beers, and very little in what we prefer(IPAs). Well-made, but not our flavor. It’s also VERY loud in there because of the acoustics. We couldn’t hear each other at all, especially with the obnoxious group of ten seniors behind us. We love your IPAs, but the pub was a disappointment.

Good food good beer. I was not a big fan of there beer prior to going. It is a lot better than I expected. I had a pulled pork sandwich with blue cheese and some other stuff. It was really good. My wife got brisket sandwich and that was really really good. Bellaire is a cool little town. Kind of a drive from TC but the roads are twisty and scenic. Worth the drive out. Shorts is worth going to if you are allready up there.

So when my wife said we should go to a Brewery while up not let Michigan, I was all in. Then she says Shorts Brewery in Bellaire, I felt kinda funny as that was so where I grew up. So after a new side roads and one stop light we ended up in Bellaire. The place in the middle of the day on a Monday the place was packed with a very diverse clientele. We tried an few sample beers and enjoyed a few different ones and settled on the Badankadank. So much so we bough 2 growlers of limited offering beers and brought them home for our son who is a beer buyer and he loved them ton. Make the effort to add this brewery to your up north vacation.
