I loved my first visit here. The food was delicious, and the service was quick and friendly. Lots of options, too. I got pulled chicken, and it was incredibly moist and flavorful. They absolutely know what they’re doing at Hick’s BBQ. Parking is a littttle hairy if you’re there during a peak time because of the lack of spaces and the drive-thru, but not bad enough to keep me away. If you haven’t been, you should check it out. Really yummy stuff!

I have driven past this place for years, but never stopped in. Today, I had the time, so I decided to give them a try. Pulled pork with potato salad & green beans. Pork was moist and the sides were both good. I will return.

Came on a Sunday afternoon. Not busy. Fast service. Terrible food. I ordered the pulled pork sandwich. Plain hamburger bun, perfectly fine, huge chunks of flavorless pork-not ok. Absolutely no smokey barbecue flavor. I think they even knew their meat was flavorless because they had sprinkled it with seasoned salt. Big pieces of fat also included in this sandwich. Yuck. My husband ordered the Brisket Platter but received the Brisket sandwich. No big deal since all they do is slap the meat on a bun. No chopping included. No flavor included either. Husband gave the barbecue sauces a try. He said mostly vinegar and pepper. I gave them a try and agreed. NOFLAVOR. On to the sides. Cole slaw: all vinegar. Now I like vinegar. I really do. But I like other flavors too. I couldn’t even taste the celery seed that was sprinkled in there. Horrible. Mac-n-cheese: warm, creamy. Not bad. Potato Salad: Mustard Base. Homemade. Husband ate up. Very good. Salted Potato Chips: crispy, not greasy. Okay We are from Texas so we do know good barbecue. We will not be back.

A 4.5 star review. Excellent brisket! First time here and I can’t believe I don’t hear more people talking about this spot. Beans and potato salad were very good, too… Pickle was«meh» but if I were them I’d just leave it out, because that brisket is rock star level. Sauce is ok but really just isn’t my style, so I bet others like it a lot. I’ll be back when I come home to visit the family!

I finally made it back to Hick’s! This time I had the ribs and brisket. The ribs are still just darn good. Still one of my favorites. This was my first experience with the brisket. Let me say, this brisket did not have the typical smoke ring which always makes me wonder if a place is actually smoking it. What it lacked in appearance it made up for in taste. This is quite possibly the best brisket I have ever had. It has a rub on it that is very good. I raised my rating to 5 stars. I am going back this weekend to get some more.

Awful! I ordered a quarter slab of ribs with two regular sides and just a plain old pulled pork sandwich. No drink! It was $ 20!!! And the food was mediocre nothing special at all. 1⁄10 would not recommend to anyone!

I not a big fan of the side dishes but the BBQ meats are all phenomenal! Whether you want ribs, brisket, pulled pork or pulled chicken… they are all juicy, flavorful, tender, and full of smoke flavor! You can’t go wrong with fried okra. I like the slider sampler platter so I get to have them all! Hands down best BBQ on the side of the river. Update: so I tried two other sides today and they were actually not bad! Green beans were very good and flavorful(meatless) and had the mac and cheese! It had bacon in it. yum! You can’t go wrong with bacon :-)

I liked the side dishes. Sometimes the green beans and baked beans have meat in them, sometimes not… You just gotta ask. My husband liked the BBQ– I liked my baked potato, okra and green beans. It’s not too expensive– a good option for a quick bite to eat before a movie at the Edge. Homemade potato chips are good –try them with one of the seasonings. I wish they had more vegetarian options, but it’s not like they had *nothing* which is better than some places. What we did eat was delicious.

Excellent BBQ, great people working there. The brisket is amazing, pulled pork was great. They ran out of ribs that day, but I can’t wait to come back and try them! Definitely a hidden gem. The BBQ sauce they provide is so-so, but not even needed for this excellent meat. Sweet potato fries are made to order and delicious!

Came here for a going away. It was pretty good. It’s actually really tiny, so it was amazing we squeezed everyone in. I had the brisket sandwich and my husband has the turkey. We also got a half order of the horseshoe with chicken which was really good. The brisket was ok, nothing to rave around. I liked the sweet sauce. The hot BBQ sauce wasn’t bad though, it was not too spicy. My husband’s turkey was really good. Overall no complaints, lots of other stuff looked good on the menu so I’ll have to return.

I’ve cooked in BBQ competitions, won money in them, and judged them. I know pretty much about BBQ, and, Hicks hits it on the head. Been there many times, the sauces are great, the sides are very good, and the meat is consistant, and done right. If you are looking for a porksteak or ribs simmered in bbq sauce, do that at home — that isnt real BBQ, this is.

I just went through thier drive-thru and ordered the pulled pork sandwich(with Cole slaw on it), baked beans, and homemade bbq chips. Where to start… my favorite bbq places are: Central BBQ in Memphis, TN, Jack’s in Nashville, and Betty Rose’s in Abilene, TX. I live in Shiloh, and had stopped in at Hicks once, maybe 2 years ago, until tonight. So my review… I got home and opened up said food. I tasted the sauce, and didn’t care for the vinegar-based sauce, even though I got the hotter version. I quickly switched over to my Sweet Baby Ray’s Sweet and Spicy that I had in my Fridge. My preference is for a «Texas Hot» bbq sauce. The Cole slaw on the sandwich was abundant, but mediocre. KFC or Chick-Fil-A slaw would have been much more satisfying, sad to say. Same for the beans– not true baked beans, but more of a bean salad, with a variety of beans in a runny sauce. I love my grandmothers 7 bean salad, but not this. I want a thick sauced baked beans… yes, Pappy’s is pretty good I guess, though not perfect. The meat had good flavor, and was decent but overshadowed by everything else. Lastly, their homemade chips were okay. They tasted like they were fried with something else, or were just a little off for some reason. Not sure why. While I was waiting in the drive-thru, there was an argument between the girl who took our order and another guy about how he wasn’t doing anything. Not that I care too much… it did smell really good, and was the best part of the experience… I love bbq and have been to some great places around the country for it. For a guy who love the sides and sauces just as much as the meat, this was disappointing. I wish there was a drive-thru bbq place on the area that would be worth my money.

The best BBQ in the Metro East. Ribs rival Pappy’s in taste and quality and their brisket is the best in the St. Louis area — nicely smoked and pull-apart tender. Another highlight is the homemade chips(crisp and well seasoned) and baked beans(sweet, smoky, bits of barbecued meat, and multiple beans). Also, don’t forget the smoked wings. They are fantastic. A must try before you try one of the good, but often mythologized St. Louis options.

I would come here again with another b1g1 coupon for a pork platter. They did let us pay the difference for the coupon for upgrading one meal to ½ slab of ribs. The staff was friendly, however, the food wasn’t really anything to write home about. To me the pork was dry and the sauce isn’t what I like at all. The baked beans were pretty good as well as the green beans. Like i said i would come with a coupon, but i wouldn’t go out of my way to come here. I do have to say I love being able to eat outside, they have a small outside section. Also, there sweet tea is like a lemony flavor not your sweet tea your looking for!

Brisket is pretty good. It’s just right. Not too dry, not too moist. I love the drive thru option. I just don’t like having to go in somewhere when it’s nasty out side. It’s definitely a small place but adequate for what it is. My favorite is their pulled pork sandwiches though. The meat is great but I hate their sauce. Very friendly and quick:)

I love this place. This place is absolutely phenomenal… way up there with Pappy’s in STL and Oklahoma Joe’s in KC. One of my friends, who actually is a born and bred St. Louisian and loves his barbeque, made me try this barbeque joint with him one day. And I’ve been back numerous times, with and without him. Everything on the menu is pretty good. In the beginning, when they opened, there were several times when the barbeque was a bit dry, but they have since fixed that problem, and they have also piled on more meat to whatever order you’ve decided on for the same price. Definitely try the pulled pork, the brisket, the chicken, and the ribs. You just can’t go wrong. You should also spring for the sweet potatoes fries… they are just that good. I also love the fact that if the owner is around, he makes it a point to come out and talk to you about his barbeque. Finally, to place the icing on the cake, even the waitstaff makes it a point to remember your names… it’s just that kind of place.
