FOODPOISONING I came to Ginger Boat on 12÷18÷15 around 5 in the evening. I ordered the Phở with steak, but they were out of steak so I selected tiger shrimp instead. When the food came the very first shrimp I ate was lukewarm, not hot like I expected, but not cold either. I was super hungry so I didn’t give it much thought at the time. Two hours later I started getting sharp pains in my stomach and a really strong ache in my stomach and back. After about and hour of strong pain then came the diarrhea and the vomiting — after my system had been cleared of dinner… The pain subsided and things got back to normal. The upshot — I am convinced it was undercooked shrimp. I DONOTRECOMMENDEATINGHERE& I WON’T BEBACK.

First of all, I LOVE the décor here. It’s cozy without feeling cramped and warm without being stuffy. The lighting is pleasant and I would absolutely take a date here! We had the gyoza to start which was crispy, obviously just made, not super flavorful but still very yummy. I had teriyaki with egg rolls, the egg rolls were really good and the teriyaki was teriyaki(so delicious, my palate isn’t refined enough to tell anything past that), the serving size was smaller than I normally expect with teriyaki but it was tasty and I was full at the end so no real complaint there. My friend got phở with tofu and scarfed it down happily. I’m definitely coming here again(with my wwu card for a dollar off!), and they have a big tv so I assume they play the Seahawks games!

I got the crispy sweet garlic chicken. It was okay, nothing too special. This was my first time back since they remodeled the place. The place looks nice.

This is your standard Japanese restaurant located in a strip mall. Very clean interior with plenty of seating. Order at the front counter and grab a seat. Very convenient when you need a quick bite for lunch! I ordered the teriyaki chicken & California roll combo. It came out very quickly. The chicken teriyaki was a bit dry, but I’m not expecting a five star meal! The sushi was also fine. I would come back if I needed a quick lunch, but I definitely wouldn’t go out of my way to eat here again. The service was very attentive and I had my water refilled twice! Convenient and fast food.

Really great for togo food. Quick and cheap but very good for the price. The chicken teriyaki was well flavored, the tempura vegetables were nice and crispy, and the california roll was decent for a non sushi add on(too much mayo, not a lot of avo).

This review is based on one dish, one time, so maybe everything else on the menu accounts for the head-scratching rating… The short version: We ordered teriyaki, and there was either an order mixup, or we got the weirdest, non-teriyaki teriyaki we’ve ever had. We had pretty good ‘yaki here years ago, so combined with the 4.5 star rating here, were expecting the same when we ordered take-out tonight. The dish we got was… ok, but it wasn’t teriyaki. In a blind taste test, I would have guessed it was some Mandarin Chinese dish I’d never had before. It definitely wasn’t oyster beef, but was as close to that as it was to teriyaki. The beef had a flavor of beef jerky, and a not-unpleasant texture like what I imagine rehydrated jerky might have. The chicken was more conventional. Even the extra sauce was a flavor profile like nothing I’ve been served — mostly just salt flavored, with almost imperceptible hints of hints of… cabbage, maybe? Not sure, but 99% just salt flavored, and whatever the subtle added flavor was, it wasn’t familiar or appealing to our palettes, especially when expecting teriyaki. It actually took something away from the rest of the dish. While a lot of cheap teriyaki comes with overly-sweetened sauces, this seemed to lack any trace of sugar, and could have used a little. All in all, it was ok for some kind of unidentifiable Asian dish, but not something I’d probably go out of my way to sign up for again. But disappointing when you’re craving teriyaki. The woman at the register who rang up our order greeted me from across the restaurant when I entered, and was very cheerful and pleasant. She definitely left a good impression of the place, and the casual atmosphere was pretty comfortable, though we didn’t dine in.

Much better than most strip mall quick Asian and more inviting to sit in than most… I had the Saigon noodles at the servers suggestion.. They had me at my first step into the joint. The aroma was an accurate predictor of the flavorful fare. Colorful green onions, thin vermicelli, carrots, egg, chicken wonderfully seasoned with fresh ginger and garlic and a soy & sesame oil infused sauce Stoked… Food was fresh and flavorful Servers informative and friendly Large quantity for the price Fast to go service Bummed…not

Decided to try it based on the reviews and they were right on the money. Great little place! Love the wooden motif/décor. The service was great and the food was awesome. Had the teriyaki chicken and California roll combo — so much food for only $ 8ish bucks! Couldn’t even eat it all and I had been pretty hungry when I walked in. Loved the teriyaki — not overwhelming or covered in sauce which is just how I like it — just the right amount of flavor. Will definitely come back here to check out some items on the menu!

Despite the fact that this restaurant seems to remodel every six months despite décor being just fine, I really enjoy dining here. It’s mellow, the food is nice, and I’ve always gotten along with my servers. The prices are pretty reasonable, as well. Their sushi is always fresh and delicious, but a few more options would be nice. My complaints would be the constant remodeling, overly frequent changes to the menu, and the background tv noise, which can be really annoying. I would still recommend giving it a visit, despite these. Good food for your buck, and you can take it to go!

Small place with great food! We come regularly. The bulgogi don and vermicelli bowl are to die for. We come for lunch but the place is generally empty. Service is nice and quaint but the food is the gem!

We are visiting Bellingham and we needed a place to eat that was open until 9PM. We found the Ginger Boat. Service was excellent and the food was extremely good. They offer great Asian options from Thai-influenced plates, Japanese, and Korean. We had the drunken noodles, bulgogi and chicken teriyaki. I am happy to recommend them if you live in(or are visiting) Bellingham.

It’s a shame this restaurant is usually empty when I come in, the food is actually pretty good, and I like the woody décor. The soup with gyoza is pretty fantastic, and the chicken teriyaki isn’t as sweet as other places(a plus in my book). I might have make this my go to lunch spot starting Fall quarter! Note for Disabled: Reasonably accessible, has its own parking lot.

This place is really worth a try. It’s a teriyaki place kicked up. Different and unique choices. I love teriyaki and its one of my top 3 choices. I just wished we lived closer. Husband really loved curry noodles, I think it’s better than any yakisoba I ever had.

I’ve been going to Ginger Boat for the several years I’ve been a Western student in Bellingham. I’ll be very sad to graduate because I’ll miss out on my favorite restaurant and teriyaki! The owner is very nice and they’ve made some great renovations recently. The restaurant has transitioned from ordering at the cash register to table service(although I think call-in/to-go orders are still available). I’m so, so incredibly glad they kept some customer favorites on their new menu, like the teriyaki(the best in Bellingham, in my opinion). They also added some really great options. I loved the Alaskan Salmon sushi with almond. Great wings and combos for groups of people. My boyfriend was really impressed with all of the food we ordered and said he’d go every day if he could(so would I!). Too bad they’re not open on Sundays. That’s the only bummer. Highly recommended!

This place has such good reviews. But I disagree. My friend and I went here when we first moved into Bellingham. When we walked in, the cashier wasnt even at the register. It took over two minutes for him to finally show up. Then he asked us what we wanted in the most annoyed and exasperated tone. We were trying to be friendly and asked what this place was best known for. He said, «do you like chicken? Then get anything with chicken» in the same tone. We were pretty annoyed at this point but we ordered teriyaki and California roll combo and sat down. When the food came, he practically threw it on the table and walked away without any word. Uh, what kind of service is that? The food was subpar. They packed down the rice to cover more area of the plate to make it seem like there are a lot. The teriyaki we both got were in small pieces. And the main teriyaki mix had more mushrooms and onions than the torn up, small chunks of the chicken itself. The California roll was meh. All that for 8 bucks isn’t even worth it. My friend and I just walked out after finishing our plate(which took no time, since there was barely any). This was easily the worst customer service I’ve received at a restaurant. I’m never coming back here again.
