East is a great restaurant. I stop in pretty frequently, and have yet to be disappointed. The(almost) half price sushi is a great bargain! The food has always been excellent, and the service is usually top notch. Every once in a while, on a very busy night, service can be somewhat slow, but most nights that is not the case. It’s a BYOB restaurant, which saves the customers a lot of money. I’d highly recommend East to anyone looking for very good and very nicely presented Asian food.

Waited 45 mins for to-go order. The crew at sushi counter appeared to be tending to other business as opposed to preparing for orders. Management is not up to the task I guess to ensure good service.

Half priced select sushi, sashimi and rolls on week nights. Pretty cheap in comparison to others in the area, but the quality is a notch above. Probably not worth the trip if it isn’t half priced… The crispy red snapper was quite good though. Whole fried snapper with a tangy, rich sauce infused with curry with fresh veggies and a side of rice priced at 20 dollars was great though, if you’re not into sushi.

Mediocre sushi. Was given a half price menu, and then was told that the price wouldn’t be honored. Will not return.

I am sad to say that poor service has marred my two recent visits here. After poor service several weeks ago, we decided to give the restaurant another chance tonight. We were seated in the hibachi area. The hibachi dinner comes with soup, salad, rice or noodles, vegetables, shrimp, a choice of protein, and ice cream. The service was incredibly slow, but we decided to relax and enjoy the show. The hibachi chef did all the usual stuff with fire, steam, and tossing bits of food into the guests’ mouths. At one point, he broke open a raw egg and proceeded to place the empty shell on my daughter’s dinner plate. She looked at him, unsure as to what she was supposed to do. He scooped it up again and threw it out, leaving a small puddle of raw egg white on her dinner dish. Huh? At another point, he squirted a stream of sake into the adults’ mouths from a squeeze bottle. I’m pretty sure this violates state law, as the restaurant has no liquor license. The food was pretty tasty, but we were unable to catch the waitress’ attention to get extra water, forks, or even the check. At long last, we got the check and after waiting 15 minutes without being able to pay, we got up and went to pay at the front desk.

So, what can beat a decent half price sushi week nights? i mean, you order what you want and they are half the price of the original menu…(well, not all of them are half priced, you have to look at the menu.) but still is an amazing deal… this place is big, clean, and the service is good… the sushi tasted good… honestly i haven’t try any sashimi, so i can’t say anything about those… but the sushi roll are good… beside sushi, they also serve other hot food… so if sushi is not your thing… you always have other choice…

«East» serves fusion Asian food, translation: large menu with everything from North Asia to South, from Japanese Sushi to Pad Thai. I have tried a few dishes and most things are pretty tasty but nothing ultra special. The biggest peeve I had eating here is the wait for food. I had waited once for 40 min and another time for 65 min for sushi bar orders at dinner time. Even the restaurant may not look full, there could be tons of take out orders take precedence. Sushi was fresh at one time, and just OK another. Consistency may be an issue here. The hot dishes from the back kitchen were out within expected time and more robust. Price is reasonable overall. Will eat here again if not crowded.

Had sushi and shrimp/scallops last night. Delicious. Very reasonably priced. Service was little slow but food came out in timely manner! Definitely going back!

Well I guess I’m done with this place. All it takes for me is to be served one bad meal. And when I say bad, I don’t mean subpar food, I mean spoiled rotten. Not very apologetic either when I called to tell them. «We’ll make you a new one ok?» No thanks, just credit my bill please. We’ll see if they do or not. The rest of the food ordered didn’t taste much better than the sushi roll. It’s no wonder the place was near empty on a early Saturday night. What a shame, I used to come here regularly… not anymore. Praying I don’t get sick tonight!

This is the fourth time in a row the kitchen could not serve the food in a reasonable time. We sat down at 6:30 ish and didn’t get our sushi until 8:05. Restaurant was maybe 70% full. Everyone was delayed. Two other table say after us by more than 20 mins got their food before us. Terrible. When we did get our food, each dish came out individually over 10 minutes!!! My daughter was finished eating before we got this other food. We come her about 8 times a year but I think this is the last time we come here. EAST: Send me a note when you figure out how to run a kitchen and can serve food timely and tasty.

We frequent this place at least once a month. The service can be slow at times, but that does not seem to deter us. The food is very good. They have sushi, hibachi grill, and other more«mainstream» Chinese dishes. It is an extensive menu. Portions are fair; not too large and not too small. Enough variety to satisfy the most picky eaters.

Sunday — Thursday they have a half price sushi menu. And, its BYOB, so you save on overpriced restaurant alcohol :) There is a wine store just before you turn into the plaza where East is located. I’ve never had a bad meal here. The sushi has always been fantastic. I’ve gorged myself and left with only a $ 16 bill. Earlier in the evenings it can be busy, and you may have to wait for a table. Plus, the servers may be overloaded and it could take a bit for them to get your order in. I’ve found that after 8pm there’s usually no wait. You can sit at a ½ booth, table, or at the sushi bar. They don’t serve alcohol, but do have tea and other beverages. They have a dessert menu, but I’ve always been so stuffed on the sushi I’ve never ordered it! The calamari salad is a great appetizer. The sushi is very very good, not as good as 1 or 2 places in NYC, but my bills leaving those places are $ 100 or more. I highly recommend this place.

After speaking with the manager, Julie, I have to give her credit for an excellent response. Apologized non-stop, told me it hasn’t happened there before, that all veggie dumplings are made onsite but would be thrown out, that she would get an exterminator to come today, and in addition to refunding my order from yesterday, she is giving me a gift certificate to come back. Well managed. I would probably need to see exterminator receipt(s) before I truly feel comfortable eating there again, but Julie definitely took my complaint seriously and handled it very professionally.

At first not all Reviews are correct, you still have to listen to all the stories from both side. The fact that the restaurant are still in business that means they are doing a tremendous job. Any issue could happens anywhere and anytime! We could never know the truth story and what source to believe in. Looking at all the bad reviews making me so sad to my to go Sushi Place ! Yes customer always right but there’s always misunderstanding somewhat. Yes Unilocal is helping us finding information about the restaurant but yet bunch a people use it as their anger spot. If you think that service or food or etc is poor they are not the only sushi place around. Just move on and order somewhere else, Simple! The same to any cuisine. Let’s help business stay around. Love East to the moon and back! Best Sushi !

What an amazing meal! The sashimi here is excellent! Sunday– Thursday they have a half-price sushi menu and it is wonderful; the quality is excellent. It’s also BYOB so you don’t have the outrageous booze bill. There usually isn’t a wait, either. I highly recommend it!

I have been going to East for over 7 years. When East first opened it was the BEST sushi place I had ever been to. Now a days, not so much. They must have a different owner now. I have tried everything from hot dishes to their special rolls to a piece of plain sashimi. Some of their speciality rolls are great. Like the Berkeley Heights roll and Angry Dragon. You wouldn’t be disappointed with those. For my health conscious friends the Perfect Naruto roll is quite good made with no rice and all the protein you could imagine. Be wary if you order sashimi. Some days it’s pretty good, whereas others it can smell like rotten fish. Also be aware that if you take out sashimi they give you three pieces, if you order-in its 2. This is where they save when they advertise ½ price sushi for dining in during the week. It’s not ½ price, you just get less. The service can be a real hit or miss when you dine in. There have been times when I have waited 45 minutes for raw fish and 10 just to get waters/green tea. East has some of the better sushi entrees in the area but it’s no 5 star restaurant.

We have been coming here for years. When my family comes from out of town, it is their first choice for Asian food. One of our favorites is the special soup menu. Ask to see it. For lunch we share a bowl of soup with noodles and their selection of meat, protein and veggies. the broth selections are terrific. Mainly we like the rich curry. For $ 9 you can’t go wrong. Add a couple sushi rolls during the week for another $ 6 and you have a bargain.

This sushi is average to decent. Half price menu mon-thurs makes it worth it. I give the 3 stars because of the lack of quality service. Almost every time ice been here the service has been slow and horrible.

I have been coming here for years and love it. The food is consistently fresh and displayed beautifully which is so important especially when eating Japanese food. Sometimes I surprise my friends and order the honey back ribs. These ribs a big, juicy, fall-off-the-bone tender and served with hoisin sauce. Not to be missed! My favorite roll is the Cranford roll(which I order with special brown rice), consists of tempura salmon with sautéed onions. Crunchy and delicious. The service is efficient, polite and given with a smile. That means a lot!
