Always good food here. Customer since 2009. Friend who was attending UCB showed me this place and have been going ever since. I order the clams and linguine or the capesare and gamberi. For the price unbeatable. Only thing that bothers me is that I work on an ambulance and have to call in my orders every time. The phone either rings forever or goes to «the number you have dialed is unavailable» frequently and have to pass on going by when that occurs :/.

The food was good, it was only $ 30 for two of us and we took some food home. It was busy but they were getting orders out fast, it only took 5 to 10 minutes to get all the food. It looked like there were alot of students there. Over all it was good, I’m sure we’ll go back.

Yay such a good find for a good price! Perfect for college students. I ordered the fettuccine alfredo and it came with a piece of bread that was a little stale but forget about the bread because homemade style pasta is all you need. I also loved how creamy and saucy it was. Huge portion size for the price so I pretty much paid less than $ 10 for two meals. Every college student should know about this place!

I’ve been meaning to write a review about this place! Seats are first come first serve, eyeball the crowd while your waiting in line to see which peeps are close to being finished. Food is pretty fast and as everyone said the prices are super reasonable. This place isn’t just for college kids… I take my family of 4 there to eat and be merry.

I’ve heard a lot about Gypsy’s even before coming to Berkeley. They have a wide selection at pretty awesome prices. The wait isn’t too bad and the proportions are generous. Definitely my go-to place for Italian food!

Cheap and affordable Italian food that also happens to be delicious! There were so many options on the menu that I couldn’t really decide so I went on Unilocal and ordered Gypsy’s Chicken off someone’s review. It was a good choice although the cream was a little too heavy for me at the time. The portions are very generous and it even comes with a slice of garlic bread! I could definitely see why this place has been doing so well next to a college campus.

Definitely a diamond in the rough! My friend introduced me to this place and I could eat here everyday no problem. I had a hard time deciding what to get because the menu was so good and so extensive. The portions were generous and I had plenty leftovers. I recommend the Frutti Di Mare ! Very fast service and really nice staff ! I will definitely come back again and again.

I’v been going here for years, and by far I think this is the most fast, convenient and delicious Italian food i’v had in the bay. I really appreciate the hard working staff at gypsies. I have a few favorites here. The godfathers favorite, crazy Alfredo, and the calzones are all really good. I’v never had a problem with my food. I try to avoid the place when it’s crazy busy, so today I generally go later at night, or when students are on vacation. Parking is kind of hard also, but well worth it I think. They give you a good portion of food. Usually with a bread with a delicious garlic that I wish I knew how to make. It’s soft and you spread it on the bread like butter. The location is what it is. It’s for college students pretty much. If you’ve been out of school for just a few years, you may feel a little older than most of the people in there just by looking around. It’s also not the cleanest or most attractive restaurant, and I’m not sure if they have a restroom, but I think the unique experience and quality of the food make up for it. Gypsies is a fond memory for many of my college friends who I still keep in touch with, and I know for sure that I’ll miss this place if I ever leave Berkeley.

I’ll get straight to the point: This place can have my money ANYTIME. «Casual dining at its best» could be used to describe a lot of restaurants around the Berkeley area, but Gypsy’s truly deserves this kind of recognition. The pasta dishes are generously-portioned(I loved the Pollo Con Pesto!), and the pizza comes out piping hot, cheesy, and remarkably delicious. The menu offerings are numerous: 35 entrée options, not including calzones, pizzas, salads, and sandwiches. And the prices? The best I’ve seen since Bill Clinton was still in the Oval Office. Where else can you find Frutti Di Mare for $ 9.49? Foodies will appreciate the quality and variety, and penny-pinchers will appreciate the value. The average price of an entrée is $ 8.99. Could this place get any better? Yes, yes it can. It’s open from 10am-midnight. EVERY. DAMN. DAY. Thanks to Kevin M. for recommending this place! Gypsy’s is further validation that Berkeley has the best variety of food in Northern California.

I had gotten off of work early and I was famished. I was craving Italian food so I rolled to Gypsys Trattoria Italiano. Its open till 12am. That’s a Plus. Prices are pretty inexpensive and Portions are big . Parking is pretty limited to Street parking. I parked my Whip on the street and rolled in Gypsys is a pretty popular place and busy I ordered a Caesar Salad, Fruti De Mare and a Soda. Since I paid Cash I got a 10% discount . I received my food 15 minutes later. the Portion size was good. I liked the Cesar Salad it was pretty tasty. My Fruti De Mare was a nice size portion too. The only hitch was that there was a piece of Mussel Shell or Grit mixed in with the Pasta Sauce and when I bit into it. It Cracked one of my teeth. Ouch that’s a Drag. I wont be Back ! Wish they were more careful when handling shelled components of a dish. My poor tooth. If it wasn’t for this Mishap it would have been an ok meal.

This could be my favorite Italian joint in Berkeley and they open late. Their pastas are full of flavor and very hearty. Since its located near uc berkeley its known as college food and usually college foods are cheap and well, not that great. Gypsys is an exception they managed to make the price super affordable without sacrificing the flavor or the quality. My favorite dish will always be the godfathers favorite here. The Alfredo sauce with nutmeg and porchetta is extremely flavorful and the penne pasta is cooked perfectly al dente; i just wished they used chicken thighs instead of breast as the chicken is super dry. Also, their garlic bread is the best ive had thus far! Pay in cash and you will receive a special discount whether you are a student or not. Also, another tip if you’re coming after 6pm i usually park in the yellow loading zones and its perfectly fine. Its amazing that the owner still remembers my friends and i though we haven’t been around in a year or so since thalassa closed down.

Cheap and good italian food that comes in big portions?! Who wouldn’t like this place?! I had the crazy alfredo and it was definitely satisfying. My bf ordered the calzone which was huge and his friends all had pretty good dishes as well. I suppose you cant go wrong with what you order here! I would 110% recommend this place to anyone in the area. Not only do they have good food that will fill you up for an affordable price, but they are also in a prime location for anyone interested in drinking with their friends afterwards or watching any sports games at the local bars. Btw it is a small place, but seating shouldn’t be too much of a problem :]

This is one of my favorite hangouts to have pasta. I come back each time because they have delicious tasting gourmet Italian pasta in a fast food style at an affordable price! Definitely need to try and check out their Crazy Alfredo(chicken, sausage, roasted red peppers, red wine in Alfredo sauce tossed with fettuccini) and seafood plates such as Frutti Di Mare(fresh calamari, jumbo shrimps, clams, mussels, garlic, tomato sauce with angel hair pasta). The have their 10″ pizzas Napoli, Margarita, Pesto, Hawaiian and other toppings to choose from. They have salads as a combo item with your pasta, and calzones to choose from. You will need to find parking in the street. They get busy here but the service is great. I don’t recommend their lasagna which doesn’t taste all that great. Overall, their pastas are delicious and have many to choose from and price of meals are affordable!

Since this restaurant is near Berkeley, it is a very college populated town. Because of their great prices, you’ll always see this restaurant packed with students. This doesn’t mean that the food here should only be enjoyed by students though. I think everyone should get a chance to experience Gypsy’s. I thought my friend was crazy that she wanted to eat at a restaurant that was 40 minutes away from her place, but it was worth the drive. My friend and I ordered the Pollo Con Pesto and Pomodoro. My Pollo Con Pesto was DELICIOUS! Each dish is made to order and I felt like I was eating a traditional Italian meal. Also, the portion sizes are big! So big that I couldn’t finish. This place although had alot of people, it was worth waiting for a table! Overall, great prices and great food!

Whenever I think about eating at Berkeley, Gypsy’s comes to mind. Located in Asian Ghetto(aka«Durant Food Court» for the more politically correct minded), I frequented Gypsy’s a lot over the course of my undergrad days. Some favorite dishes include: + Gnocchi w/pesto(little fluffy potato balls floating in a creamy pesto sauce) + Frutti di mare(angel hair pasta is cooked al dente, and they don’t skimp on the seafood) + Fettuccine al salmon(loved the generous portion of smoked salmon) Some other perks include getting a slight discount for paying with cash or showing your Cal ID. Things to note: — Soda fountain is a little broken sometimes — Limited seating for bigger groups inside, so it’s better to grab your food to-go and eat at picnic tables outside If I’m ever in Southside for a visit, I always try to visit Gypsy’s for a nostalgic meal.

After having spent a few weeks in Italy, I’m even more convinced of how much I love this place. Food: My favorite dish is Gypsy’s Chicken(penne, chicken, garlic, mushrooms, cream and parmesan cheese). The cream is super rich, like most other creams at Gypsys. Profusion of flavors and herbs in one dish, yet this applies to just about every dish on their menu. Whatever you go with, you can’t go wrong. Stick with your gut when trying to decide between dishes and you’ll be happy! One thing I will mention is that a lot of these dishes are very oily, just FYI. The garlic bread is scrumptious, crispy and comes with roasted garlic chunks on top. Price: Everything is under $ 9.00. The portions don’t seem super big, but it’s Italian food… heavy and extremely filling! Ambiance: Always super busy, crowded, loud, low-maintenance eatery with high quality food. Don’t come here if you’re trying to go on a romantic date, do some here for any other type including dates with friends, family, colleagues, etc. Service: Almost non-existent, but I can look past that. Overall: Fast, affordable, authentic and delicious Italian food… clearly the best in the area! No one can compete. Tip: Add crushed red pepper to enhance the spice in your dish. Super yums!

I came here on a Saturday during dinner time(around 5 pm) and the line was super short. After we placed our order, more and more people started piling in! It was a good thing we beat the rush hour. For dinner, we ordered the Godfather’s favorite which had bacon, chicken and egg in a cream sauce. They serve it with a slice of bread with real garlic topped on it for you to smear yourself! Nothing beats fresh garlic: P The pasta was so good, we decided to order another portion to-go to save for later when we get hungry again. Overall, great place for pasta! Next time I’ll try their HUGE calzones.

Cheap and delicious, what else can you ask for??? The setup is pretty small. –We came at around 1:00 on a Friday and it was pretty full. You walk in, get in line and order your food. MAKESURETOKEEPYOURNUMBERSTUB!!! Then when your food is done you walk up and pick it up. — I ordered the Capricciossa for $ 6.99. Spinach, Roasted red peppers, Garlic, Tomato sauce, Trace of cream & cheese tossed w/Penne. It was soooooooooooo good holy shit. It was creamy, flavorful, pasta was cooked perfectly. Ugh i wish i could eat this everyday. The serving was nice n’ big too! –My friend ordered the Shrimp Alfredo for $ 8.49.Baby Shrimp, Mushrooms, Garlic with cream and Parmigiano cheese sauce over Fettuccine. This one was also realllyyyyy good! Im not a big fan on alfredo mainly because i used to eat it wayyyyyyyyyyy too much but if youre a fan, you’ll love it!!! –This place is cheap, delicious, fast and worth the trip. This is my new favorite spot to eat when in Berkeley :-)

Love! Love! Love this place! I’ve been to this place 100 thousand times, I can’t remember when and how I stumbled into finding this place. But since then, whenever I’m in the mood for delicious, affordable Italian food, I go to Gypsy Trattoria! Located in a small enclave of food shops a block away from Berkeley University by Durant Ave. This place is geared toward student clienteles; food is delicious and very affordable. The place is small and almost aways packed by students. Most of the time you have to hover around until a table is free. The turn around is very fast and the wait usually is very quick. I pretty much tried most of their menu and so far I haven’t ordered something I disliked. Their menu is categorized into pizzas, calzones, salads, and pasta which is further divided into chicken, beef, seafood and vegetarian. Wide selection indeed! They accept charge cards but if you pay cash you get 10% discount. Soda refill is 50c. Bike racks are everywhere. Only street parking for cars. There are paid parking establishments few blocks away. This place is definitely not fine dining! If you’re comfortable with über casual affordable no frill Italian food, this place is for you!

Pretty good for a quick bite to eat in Berkeley! I didn’t even know about Gypsy’s until my brother suggested it as we were roaming around the area. This place probably seats around 30 people at most, it’s pretty small but they cater as well. Prices are good for a nice pasta plate and everything tasted yummy. My brother went with the fruiti de mar and I got the scampi pasta. They also give you a slice of French bread with roasted garlic spread on top! Scampi pasta was ok, not a lot of flavor on the shrimp and the sauce was a bit watery but it makes sense since it was a lemon white wine sauce. They also don’t have a restroom here and items paid in cash is $.50 less than if they were paid in card. Overall a good experience. I love me some pasta! The pasta wasn’t jaw dropping but it was yummy nonetheless. Will have to try the Godfathers Pasta and calzone next time, those seem to be a hit! :)
