J & D Glass & Sash

This is the first bad review I write. I tried to support local businesses but need to share my experience as they were not willing to listen.
My request was simple. Someone to come out and get me a quote.
The lady was quite rude and she said she was very busy. She hang up on me. Since I don’t know about too many other window repair services, I gave it a second try. I called a few days later and the same result.
My wife called. She was able to schedule someone to come. The day came and nobody showed up or call. I called asking for an ETA. The lady put me on hold and said that she was busy. She offered on day and time, very specific. I said, I’ll take it. She said, ok and hang up. No address or contact info asked.
I hope if you read this and work for J&D can straight this up. The lady who takes calls was very rude the 3 – 4 I spoke to her. She even said once to me, I’m busy so call me later once you have made up your time about time — that was when we were trying to schedule something and have only spent 2 minutes, 13 second on the phone.
Best of luck. Probably, as you stated, you don’t need more business. But if you want sustainability, something needs to change.
UPDATE ⁹⁄₂₈: to my surprise, 5 minutes after I wrote this review, J&D called me. She explained me their overwhelming workload and promise to deliver this time. 3 hours later a technician was at my house. He was knowledgeable and professional. Made good recommendations and told me the office will send me a quote with details. I will update this review once again I receive the quote (not to talk about pricing but to update on response time and follow up). So 1 star for the follow up call and 1 more for the prompt technician = 3 stars. Again, I will update later.

They were extremely prompt and friendly. If I ever break a window again or need anything related to windows, I am definitely going to give them a call.

Extremely friendly, helpful, and honest. Came out quickly for a problem we were having with a window and gave us great advice. Will call them again in the future for our window needs.

The installation of my bathtub enclosure was perfect. Dave and his partner did
a professional job. They were very courteous and cleaned up everything before
leaving.

I am a Berkeley home owner and recently had the crew at J + D Glass and Sash replace over a dozen windows that had fogged over a period of 15 years. From the outset, communication regarding the project was excellent. The crew was professional and a pleasure to work with. My sense is that this is a company who respects the client’s needs and delivers a quality product. I am happy to recommend this local company and would not hesitate to call them again.

On time, friendly and fair price for my window repair (aluminum garden window frame). James was our service guy. Left the place cleaner than he found it.

My husband and I owned an 18-​unit apartment building in Oakland for five years. During that time, we used J&D Glass for all of our window repairs and replacements. They retrofitted more than half the windows in the building. They are reliable, trustworthy, efficient and competitively priced. Also great communicators. Never had a single problem with their work. I recently moved into a condo where 3 of the double pane windows were busted which caused condensation to build up on the glass so badly that you couldn’t see outside anymore. Sadly, I was preparing to spend thousands-​upon-​thousands of dollars to replace the windows before my neighborS (more than 1!) came to my rescue and referred me to J&D! Instead of replacing the entire window they replaced only the glass for a fraction of the cost! 3 windows for LESS than 1 grand! I’m sooooo happy with these guys! My windows look great and my house is so much warmer! I don’t have to run the heater day and night anymore! Overall the service was terrific & the price was excellent! They quoted me the lowest of 5 estimates! No wonder why 4 of my neighbors used J&D!
They take Visa & MasterCard and they will gladly come to SF!

Recently, J & D Glass & Sash replaced the glass in six of my windows. Steve took the window measurements and provided a very reasonable quote for the work. Cheryl coordinated the work with friendliness and humor. Mark performed the glass installation with care and tremendous workmanship. There wasn’t a fingerprint to be found on the new glass! I am immensely happy with the finished product.
I would definitely use J & D Glass & Sash again.

I contacted J and D Glass in May 2011 because my windows seals were damaged and had water in between the panes. At the time they quoted me a very reasonable price to replace the window glass. However my condo association put a kabosh on the work and told me that this would negate the siding warranty Long story be told my association sent out a schmuck who quoted me 9000 dollars to replace all my windows and bascially rebuild them to the home. J and D sent out Mark and he told me that only the glass had to be fixed at a cost of less than 1000k. Amazing that their are such unethical contractors out there. J and D Glass are great highly recommended and trust worthy and honest how refreshing.

We chose J & D Glass due to the good reviews here. We made a 50% (considerable) deposit for some windows that would take 2 – 3 weeks to arrive. We waited four weeks, but heard nothing from them, so I called. Apparently they never placed the order after taking my deposit. Lea told me that she did not receive my order because somebody else took my deposit. WTH, is there no communication in their business? That is no excuse.
She tells me, «But, you are lucky because the window company we would have ordered from went out of business, so those windows would not have arrived anyway, nor would they have had a warranty. So we can start the process over again with another window company, but you have to pay about $ 200 more and wait another 2 – 3 weeks for the windows to arrive.»
Yeah, thanks, I feel really «lucky». What a waste of a month waiting for these guys to get back to me.

I hired J&D to replace some windows at our property and they did an excellent job. I was hesitant leaving them a key and just having them do the job without me there since I’m an expert micro-​manager, but once I saw their work I was able to trust them to do it again. The new windows look excellent and really tied the place together. Thank you thank you.

The owner really made an effort to right the situation which I very much appreciated. Ultimately it was important to them to make sure my experience was positive and I was happy with their work. They replaced the windows as soon as they could and were very fair regarding the cost. I recommend working with them, just do your due diligence and be sure of what you are ordering.

They replaced nine windows in a small rental house we own and their prices were very competitive, they delivered on time, and installed professionally. We’re asking them to replace windows in our apartment building, so maybe we’ll have some more nice things to say about them soon.
Update: We’ve used them three more times for other projects and they were on time and on budget. Very professional.

Just had my window & sliding door’s glass replaced. The gentlemen came on time, professional, & very pleasant. I recommend to all my neighbors.

I had a large glass table top made for a very good price. Best of all was the customer service. Office manager, Alaina, came in special on Saturday morning so I could pick up my glass, although the shop was closed. That is excellent service that I appreciate. The glass itself was perfect, and they were helpful in deciding the specifications for the glass as well…

We called J&D because I was an idiot and broke the largest piece of glass on our old 1920s front door. They gave us a great price, came to our house that morning to measure it and had it installed in 2 days (even when the glass had to be ordered because it was tempered).
They were professional, fast, inexpensive (compared to other larger glass retailers) and really nice. Their administrative staff and workers were all terrific. I would highly recommend them to anyone needing quick glass/​window repair. And, I love that they are a small outfit out of Berkeley.

Excellent customer service!
I called and gave my measurements and got an estimated quote for my bedroom window glass replacement. Steve came out the next day to measure the window/​glass to make sure that I got the measurement correct. He was on time and courteous. Then the glass was ordered to size and type.
A couple days later, the installer, Mark came and replaced the windows. Mark was also right on time. He is also courteous and easy to talk to.
This is the kind of customer service that I expect! Would recommend J&D Glass & Sash.

Good work at reasonable prices on short notice. One of your drunk friends broke a window at the bachelor party last night? J and D glass and sash. You live in the ghetto and someone shot your window out? They are not afraid. High in the Oakland hills fifty feet up? No problem. Commercial, Residential, your kids tree fort, mirrors on the ceiling in the luv shack? Bathtub enclosures, two way mirrors for the bondage room? They got you baby. No auto glass sorry, they have to leave something for the other guys to do.
