I’ve been bringing my cars to Tim Tomas, owner of Tomas Sport Tuning, for 16 years. There isn’t a better shop or group of folks you could go to for service on your VW /​Audi. They do incredible work, they are super friendly, crazy honest, and straight up good folks.
My whole family rides VW and we all bring our cars to Tim. They take incredibly good care of you and your car. I’ve taken all my cars; GTI, Jetta, Touareg, Passat, and Audi A4 to Tim since 1999 — you simply can’t find a better mechanic.
If you drive a VW or Audi, do yourself and your car a favor — go to Tomas Sport Tuning. Don’t be silly and get robbed at the dealer.

This place is incredible. Dope cars everywhere and friendly employees. They took me in with no appointment for a quick service task. If you care about your VW you bring it here. Best shop for German cars in the bay.

This place is absolutely amazing! Hands down best repair shop I have ever been to. They are very honest, helpful, and hardworking! I called a few places to get an estimate on a carbon clean-​up job for my 2008 VW Jetta 2.0T. All of the specialty shops I called quoted me $ 1,000+. I called Tomas Sport based on the excellent reviews, and they quoted me $ 200 below all of the other shops. Ken gave me an exact price for the job… down the the penny. There were no surprises or hidden fees! This place is an answer to my prayers! I dropped my car off late the night before, and Ken called me first thing in the morning to let me know they received my key. He kept me informed the whole time they had my car and got it back to me the same day. The clean-​up took 6 hours, and they were still able to finish it in one day! They really take care of their customers. They looked over my car for any other issues, and they rotated my tires, checked the tire pressure/​filled my tires, and they even topped off my oil all free of charge! My car has never run better… seriously! This place is a 40 min. drive for me, but its absolutely worth it. I won’t take my car anywhere else. Thank you Tomas Sport Tuning!!! :)

Just want to give a shoutout to TST.
Got my brake pads, lines, and fluids installed while at work. Took the car out to the track the following weekend and the car performed without a hitch.

Update: got my car back with the water/​meth system and it works flawlessly. This was a complicated install, but Tim did a fantastic job on it. All the guys at Tomas are terrific to deal with. I highly recommend using Tomas… they are terrific!
I just hired these guys to install a water/​meth kit on my BMW 335d. Finally, a shop that knows how to do tuning right in Berkeley. Ken is great, friendly and very straightforward. When I talked to Tim about the details of install I knew immediately that I had found the right guy. All of Tim’s suggestions showed that he was very experienced and more importantly cares about the quality of the work he does.

My Husband and I took our Audi here because we thought there was an issue with the Turbo. Tomas Sport Tuning was able to find out it was an issue with the coils and could use updated software. We had them perform the work and it turned out great!
Their customer service is amazing! They were so kind and very honest. We will definitely bring our car back if we are ever in need of a service or upgrade!

Having a mechanic you can trust is everything! Tim and his crew fits the bill. I have never one time felt misled, lied to or had anything but a great experience.

They installed special tires on my Porsche. Incredible good service for very reasonable prices. Great place. Great guys. Will find any excuse to back there again.

I brought my mom’s 2003 New Beetle in for a brake fluid flush, coolant flush, oil change, & general overall inspection. My mom doesn’t drive much, as she only has 30k miles on her car, but dealership prices keep going up and $ 500+ for the aforementioned maintenance work cannot be justified on an 11 year old car. Calling for an appointment took 2 voicemail attempts, but by the end of the week my appointment was scheduled. The shop was clean, Ken was very courteous and attentive to my needs. The work was completed in good order, on time, at a fair price that was way less than any dealership quoted me, and without any issues. Given what I experienced, I would feel very comfortable bringing my 2013 Golf R here for any work that it may need in the future.

I’ve gone to Tomas Sport Tuning since he was a two man shop in Richmond (Ken used to get his hands greasy once in a while back then). Even though he now has a lot of customers and is fully booked, Tim has maintained the same high standard of work and craftsmanship for his shop. I like the fact that they are still are willing to take on custom work which is not the simple unbolt and bolt on the part as most aftermarket manufactures would like you to believe. Most of the time modifications take a lot of tweeking to make the mod fit and work properly before it can be sent out the door. Custom work usually ends up being a very slim or even money lost job due to the time spent. It also speak volumes for the depth of knowledge required to modify cars and make them work properly.

They’re a great company. I own a 1973 Super Beetle. I asked around and was referred to them. The person who referred them spoke highly of them and their honest business practices. I experienced it first hand. After dealing with them the one time that I did, I can honestly say that they’re very fair and honest.
They took me to the BART station after I dropped my car off and picked me up from the BART station when they were finished with my car.
They’re very busy and hard to get a hold of. Mad props to Ken though. He’s very hard working and really nice. Although they’re a great company, good luck with getting a hold of them by phone or e-​mail. Your best bet would be to stop by and schedule an appointment if you can.
I believe that they’re popular because there seem to be more people in Berkeley who own older Beetles then any other place in the Bay Area and there are very few people who still work on them locally. Another great place for older Beetle work is The Buggy House in Hayward, California.

First off, these are awesome people, and they do a great job. They’re really honest and down-​to-​earth folks and they seem to really know what they’re doing. They don’t make up fake problems that they then have to fix, like some other places do. Whne you find mechanics like this, you stick with them!
I took half a star off because they NEVER answer the phone — like NEVER ever ever. I even got the receptionist Ken’s cell number because he admitted they don’t answer the phone, but he rarely answers that either. So, when I need work done, I roll on in and hope for a walk-​up, but usually I’m told they’re too busy and to come back later. If they do have time, they’ll make the fix on the spot, which is nice. But it would be even nicer to be able to call and make an appointment so I don’t waste time showing up, leaving, and coming back later every single time. My guess is it would help their business as well!
The other half a star I took off because their prices for parts are retail and thus high. Yes, you can bring in your own parts, but who wants to go through that?
Fix these two issues and this place would be perfect.

Ken and the fellas at Tomas sports tuning are the best when it comes to VW and Audi I really appreciate the customer service and I love the new exhaust system, it’s awesome and sounds great thanks fellas ! I highly recommend this place for your VW or Audi !

$ 125 for a mod installation where it’s 1 hour or less for mostly unbolting/​plugging in?
Mechanics must be hating their job to charge that much and not have a conscious, but I’m still laughing at you because it doesn’t stop me from much.
Yet you had me wait almost 2 hours for a quote, then overcharge me when you initially said it would be way less, then you had me wait literally near til’ end of the day when you could have called to pick my car up earlier on a hot day.
Real crooked on top of that putting the old part components uncovered in my backseat, nice touch.
Do you want to change my windshield wipers for a couple hundred dollars too?

Recently became first time owner of a VW 08 EOS since this is my first new/​used car I wanted to make sure everything was good as I want to keep it running good forever. I bought my car and took in to Tomas a couple of days later. The guys at Tomas looked everything over for me and everything in my car appeared standard but they did inform me that there was a part that appeared to be slightly worn (cam follower) I had it replaced apparently this part becomes worn over time in all EOS. They went enough to show me the part and show me the part that they would be putting in. I am very grateful for this because I rather have this replaced now as it was only slightly worn than to have a bigger problem with it in the future.
My car only gets serviced at Tomas and I will only take it to Tomas. They have the best service ken is always very nice, honest and very informative you know they know what they are talking about and as a women this is what you want because you know you will get great service, they are very honest and you will not get ripped off which one thing I cannot say about any other mechanic shop I’ve been too.
Recently did coilovers and had my car flashed! Big move for someone that doesn’t know to much about cars but I am confident in any service recommend and done at Tomas and guess what? I love it you can defiantly feel the difference my car drives so much better and it responds quicker! My younger sister who I let drive my car every once in a while even noticed the difference she really like the way the car drives and feels.
HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!

I was fortunate to experience the Tomas treatment a few days ago. I was in search of a specific size tyre and came across a set of Vredestein tyres on Craigslist. I emailed the seller and got a response the very next morning in a cheerful tone. It turned out it was at Tomas Sport Tuning. A price was negotiated and they also offered to install the tyres. I informed them that these were new, and very rare wheels — they assured me they would treat them right. We agreed to a time and an appointment was set. I think I spoke to Richard… but I might be wrong and apologize.
Now, I have to mention that I drive a BMW and Tomas is primarily a VW and AUDI shop. I wasn’t sure how this would all work out. I got to the shop on 4^th and was immediately at ease. It likes one big family there and everyone has a sip of happy juice before work. Everyone was warm and friendly and not just to customer — but to each other. You could see it was a team that enjoyed working with each other.
It was one of those rare times I did not hesitate to hand my keys off for someone else to drive my car into the shop — and with no fear. I checked out the tires and they were as described. Literally Brand New! And apparently, these are great tires too.
Tim did the installation of the tires. I have to talked about this part. As soon as he looked my wheels, he commented on how nice they were and how he would need to be careful while installing the tires. I usually take comments like this with a pinch of salt as a lot of people «just say» that kind of stuff. Not Tim! Oh no man. He places rags on the tire machine so the inside of the wheels are not scratched — let alone the face of the wheels. And then he removes the old tire one inch at a time so as not to scar the lip of the wheel.
When it came time to balance, he spent at least ten minutes on each wheel distributing the weights for optimum balance. I was so used to going to tire shops where they just roll the wheel, slap on some weights and send you on your merry way. Not here mate! During this whole process, Tim did not only clean the old spot where the weights were and the residue, he cleaned the whole inside of each wheel. Like WOW!
To say I was impressed with their work would be an understatement. And to boot… they are NOT a tire shop. Amazing!
I wasn’t sure how well the balancing would work. As anyone who drives a BMW knows, they can be very finicky cars when it comes to suspension and wheels. My car rode as smooth as glass. Thank You Tim! Thank You Guys!
I kinda wish I had a VW or AUDI so I had a reason to go back to Tomas Sport Tuning. Who knows, I just might one day. Even if I don’t go back there for work, I won’t hesitate a second to recommended anyone to go there and get the cars repaired or worked on.

Audi & VW tuning shop that also does standard maintenance and mechanical work.
I had a torn CV boot and the first shop I called couldn’t fit me in for 2 weeks. Tomas Sport Tuning got me scheduled 2 days out and came in slightly under the original estimate.
You can hang in their waiting area, head down a few blocks for 4^th St shopping and restaurants, or they will drive you to BART.

Don’t be fooled… Sport Tuning. This shop does not only work on the super pumped up Kaurt-mobiles…Every day schmucks are welcome too! Afterall, TST is in the business of fixing cars… whether it be Accord, Volvo or a hoopty old Land Rover (My Truck)
TST’s has a reputation for outrageous «Tuners»…but meat of the matter is… This shop has Great service for all makes and models.

Auto repair places are like salons, they all have high Unilocal ratings because everyone has their guy that they stick with and they assume they’re getting the best service/​deal/​treatment… It’s ok, I did too. I’ve been around the block trying out different auto places for my VW Jetta. Before Tomas, I thought XYZ was the best, and although they’re ‘aite, they can’t compare to Tomas… So, to reiterate, unless you’re going here you’re not getting the best service/​treatment/​deal.
I love them because:
1. I am absolutely 100% sure that they are honest. And I have NEVER been able to say that about any mechanic I’ve ever been to.
2. They don’t make me wait long!!! yaaaayyy!!! I hate waiting!
3. They go above and beyond the call of duty. Outstanding customer service.
When I asked for an oil change they automatically knew that my car burns oil without me having to tell them and ask for a good synthetic oil. They also rotated my tires and fixed on of my license plates lights for free. AND on top of that the mechanic (so sorry I didn’t get his name) noticed that my mirror was broken and gave me a free one that had been hanging around the shop. All for $ 65. Yup I’ll be back. (I have more examples if you still need convincing)
4. Their prices are VERY fair and reasonable
This place is the sole reason I’d consider getting another VW.
So, how is it that Karmakanix is still in business?
