Tonight was my first time coming to John’s and it was fantastic! My girlfriend and I tried five different flavors total: Ube, Maui waui sherbet, rainbow sherbet, cookies and cream, and peanut butter chocolate. All were fantastic and the service was great too! Definitely coming back!

Best place to get a cheap ice cream fix. At $ 1.25 you can get a heaping scoop of your flavor of choice. Scoops used to be $ 1, and the price going up by 25 cents seemed like a bummer at first, but now I just use it as an excuse to get ice cream when I’m low on quarters for laundry. My personal favorite is the mocha almond fudge.

Affordable ice cream prices for college students and they have a wide variety of selections! Their ube ice cream is definitely worth trying!

Me and my family was walking around Berkeley. We saw this ice cream decide to stop by and see what kind of flavors they had in there. What caught my eye was the thai ice cream so i told my sister to order me that flavor. I was so excited to try it. Once i try the ice cream i was so disappointed with the flavor, no taste of the thai tea, just sugar, all i could taste. Lucky the cone was $ 1.50 cheap place to get your ice cream if you want to try their flavors. Also my neiece drop her ice cream in front, their were nice to give her another scoop just the fact that was infront of their store. Advice to parents let your child eat their ice cream jnfront in case it drops you can get another scoop but if you walk away from their store and drop it they would not let you do that.

I seriously love this place. It’s so cheap and my favorite is the taro ube ice cream.

Honestly my favorite ice cream shop in Berkeley. Parking is a bit tough in the area since it’s so close to UC Berkeley, it’s casual and straightforward, and the value is amazing. Scoops are $ 1.25. My favorite flavor is filipino Ube ice cream – they have had it every time I go in, and I hope it always stays on the menu! Everything I’ve tasted there is pretty good, and a really nice selection. Check it out if you’re in the area! Inexpensive and quite tasty.

It’s a nice and cheap way to satisfy your cravings :) Some of the flavors are really good, really creamy and rich. But since it’s is really cheap, sometimes you get really dull flavors with icicles in them. Still worth it.

A buck and a a quarter for a scoop of ice cream in a cup or a cone. Crazy cheap! The ice cream is Breyers quality and they have a large variety of flavors including Mocha Almond Fudge, Black Walnut, Huckleberry, Strawberry Cheesecake. Pretty ghetto place though and no seating.

Decent ice cream for $ 1.25. The place is a little rundown but you can’t expect a place like Ici. You gotta pay to play. The ube is pretty good with even some yam chunks! Strong yammy flavor. No seats available. Sit outside with the hacky sack enthusiasts.

Seriously, what a steal! You can not beat $ 1 per scoop. They also have lots and lots of flavors. The line can be long at times, but that expected and it goes by really fast. I personally would recommend the pistachio with almonds and I would not recommend the thai tea(it does not taste like thai tea). Anyways, if you are cheap and love ice cream, or if you just love ice cream, go to John’s Ice Cream.

Really great ice cream . I love their flavors. If you’re into fruity Flavors then lychee flavors is a must try . I think it’s the best ice cream for its price. 1.25 $ for a big size scoop. Waffle cones are 65 cents extra. Butter pecan is good too but kinda blunt taste.

I’ve been coming to john’s for some time and just haven’t had the chance to write a well-deserved review. My sister and I frequent this place several times and each time we come, we are pleasantly surprised by the elected panoply of flavors and textures they offer as part of their ice cream collection! Some of my favorite flavors include Taro, butter pecan, Thai tea, banana rum, and cheesecake. It’s only $ 1 per scoop, which is all you need because of the ice creams high quality. It’s so rich and so yummy. I’ll be back soon!

I walk by this place at least twice a day, sometimes more. When it’s open there is usually a line but it moves fairly fast. They have a nice selection of ice cream. Some of the usuals as well as some you wouldn’t find at your local 31. I like the lychee ice cream myself. Positives: $ 1.25 for a single scoop on a cone! Eclectic selection of yummies goodness Negatives: Ice cream tends to be soft so it’s melting quickly even on a moderate day. Small and hard to check out the selection(either there are people in front of you or the people behind the counter are rushing you through the order so they can get to the next in line.

I’ve walked by this place time and time again but always overlooked it because of the price. Finally tried it the other day with my friends and was VERY pleasantly surprised. This is definitely a bang for your buck… twenty-five =p It may not be the BEST ice cream but price aside it’s still very satisfying. Ice cream is soft, creamy but not heavy… pretty light. All the flavors my friends and I tried were good too; My favorites being the thai tea and green tea so far… still need to try the ube! Honestly if you live near by and you’re cheap, don’t by store bought ice cream. This is SO much better and actually cheaper: D

Wow! What an excellent price for really taster ice cream to someone who is used to paying way more for a scoop! I really love the flavors they offer! Such a gem! I’m glad we checked this place out when we visited Berkeley. I hope to go again!

Now $ 1.25(including tax). Still the best deal in town to satisfy that ice cream craving you get on a hot day. Lines are usually non existent or 1 – 2 people long. Try the pistachio almond– YUM! :)

As good as you might imagine a $ 1.25 ice cream cone to be. Plenty of flavors from which to choose, no shortage of fruity or creamy. In the summers, beware, the lines are long, and bless the folks behind the counter, but they are not super quick. Bring a friend, gab a bit, grab your cone, and split. The good: omg, $ 1.25 The bad: the quality is ehhhhh.

UM, ONEDOLLAICECREAMMAKEMEHOLLA?! Okay, so it’s actually a dollar and twenty five cents for a scoop. But it really can’t get any better than that. I was extremely cautious when I walked by the sign. How could there be a quality scoop of good old ice cream at this measly price? AND a complimentary sugar or regular cake cone for no additional cost?! Unreal. WAIT. There’s more? They also carry a variety of other flavors?! #notbasic I got a scoop of their pandan ice cream. Amazing subtle coco-nutty pandan flavor AND creaminess to boot? SOLD. Sold so bad. Best bang-for-your-buck ice cream. Period, yo.

Best dollar scoop ice cream I’ve ever had! I came here around 9PM and there was a short wait of ~5 minutes. I decided to get Ube since many Unilocalers liked it and I was not disappointed! It was very rich and flavorful. The consistency was creamy but firm in texture as well. Be ware: this place doesn’t skimp out, it’s actually a REALLY big scoop. I ordered it on a waffle cone I honestly could’ve done without it. The cone itself wasn’t that crispy and tasted a bit too stale. If it was more fresh, it would’ve went so well with the ice cream! I definitely recommend coming here for some affordable and delicious ice cream! The flavor I wanted to try most, thai tea, was unfortunately sold out that day… so I must return soon to try it! :P

$ 1 for a scoop of ice cream?!! Don’t mind if I do?! This is my go to spot for ice cream in downtown Berkeley. Minus one star for closing so god damn early! People would eat ice cream way into the night! Okay so for one dollar you can get any scoop you want on a regular cone or sugar cone! No extra charge! What a sweet deal! And there’s like over 20 flavors or something to choose from! But the best of the best has to be mocha almond fudge. It is so good! I just can’t help it but order it every time I’m here! For one dollar the quality is not that bad. I mean Johns is not up there compared to ici and smitten in Berkeley but for one dollar though it’s still pretty good! And it’s affordable for your broke college students budget. Thank goodness!
