It’s hard for me to find a stylist who really understands how to create a sexy, evil, and professional style for men which I normally try to find. Cindy really delivered. The artists here are very kind and very talented. Make sure to tip them all very well because they have exceptional quality style that is hard to find these days in this hipster dominated world. Thank you, Cindy!

My daughter and I came here because of the good Unilocal reviews. We needed a brow wax. I had called in advance to see if we needed an appointment (we didn’t). I guess they turned on the waxer when I called and apparently it has no thermostat because the wax got too hot and by the time we got there the salon was smelling so much like hot wax that one customer commented it smelled like an electrical fire. They sat us down on the hair cut chairs and put plastic capes on us. I reminded them that we were there for waxing not a hair cut. I guess this is what they do for waxing. We watched as they tried cooling down the wax. One woman tried cooling the wax with a hair dryer on cool, but it only sprayed hot wax on the other woman’s hand, then she yelled out in pain. Definitely not inspiring confidence! I wanted to leave but they already had us sitting in chairs with those capes on. They ended up dipping in the waxing sticks and blowing on the wax to cool it down. So much for sanitation. The wax was a bit hot but neither of us got burned. Because you are in chairs you have to tilt your head back while they do the waxing. Afterward my daughter said her neck was sore. In the end, they missed a spot between my daughter’s brows and left a spot of wax on my face. We walked out vowing never to return.

I had a mani/​pedi done by Cindy today. Overall, I was happy with the experience. Cindy is friendly and talkative (but not in a bad way). Cindy was also respectful of my request to not cut my cuticles. $ 30 for a mani/​pedi is reasonable. The only downsides are that while the pedi is pretty good, it’s definitely not the best professional pedicure I’ve ever gotten. There wasn’t enough clean up in my pedi. Also, their selection of colors SUCKS. Seriously, I have a better selection (and polishes in better shape!) than Mayfair. Before I come back to Mayfair, I’d like to check out the other nail salons in my ‘hood to see if I can find one I like better.

I’m visiting Berkeley from the East Coast and I was really dismayed to find that no one around here seemed to wax eyebrows for less than $ 16 — most starting at $ 20 or $ 25! Then I found this place, which charges a ridiculously reasonable $ 8, and the woman who did it was unbelievably nice and did a great job. I just walked in off the street with no appointment and was out of there with awesome eyebrows in about fifteen minutes.
If, like me, you don’t care about all the intense aroma-​therapied-​out spatastic candle-​lit bells and whistles and just want your grooming needs met efficiently in a mellow atmosphere by someone super sweet and attentive, this is the place to go. I’m so glad there are still a few places like this left on upper Solano Ave…

Exactly what wifey and I were looking for, a simple no-​frills mani/​pedi for $ 30 + tip. Jenny did a great job taming my out-​of-​control cuticles.
With no appointment we only had to wait 5 minutes on a Sunday afternoon.
No spa-​chairs and no credit cards.

Jenny & Cindy are great & talented — pedicure, manicure, and hair! The atmosphere is low-​key & friendly. Sadly, it REALLY needs higher cleaning & hygiene standards — it would then be a five-​star neighborhood retreat!

i’ve been getting my hair and eyebrows done here for years. cindy makes sure i have perfect eyebrows every time i see her. i get compliments everytime i go back to work after get them waxed.

Cindy does the best eyebrows!!! She is friendly and fast with her waxing. If you ever want to do special occasion hairdos, you should definitely come here. My sister got an updo from Cindy for a New Year’s Eve party, and it was really nice. She received compliments from everyone. Cindy recently gave me a haircut before I left for Boston. Random people on the street would ask where I got my haircut, and they were so disappointed when they found out I got it in Berkeley.

Yup its just a regular little salon, which i love and adore. Its no extravaganza or peaceful beauty retreat. Its my usual hair and brows tamer.
Ive been a regular for yrs now… i think its time i make a tribute and appreciation for their beautiful work.

I’ve been a customer here for ten years. The staff is friendly and pays good attention to detail and personalized styling needs. They may keep you waiting sometimes even if you have an appointment (so bring a book if you mind waiting) but they’ve never given me a bad haircut in ten years…
