Popeye’s is HORRIBLE in general. They advertise this great chicken on TV commercials and you get there and they give you this piece of chicken that looks like a pigeon. and the shrimp look like it was just born. Comon Popeye’s get it together. You advertise that the meals are great but it would not fill up a 2year old. So sad! I will never eat at Popeye’s EVER!

I first visited this popeyes about a year ago. Went in and purchased a 5 piece chicken tender combo meal. I was very disappointed with the service and food received. The customer service was rushed and not very friendly. When I got home to look at my food i noticed my chicken tenders were ridiculously small, so small that they should have included more tenders to even equal 5 chicken tenders! I vowed not to waste my money or time at this location anymore. Needless to say last night I gave them another try, and was disappointed yet again. I ordered two 5 piece chicken tender combo meals both with jambalaya rice, and a biscuit. Now I watched as the employee prepared my food, and as she was serving my jambalaya rice I noticed she asked another employee if they’re was anymore rice(the other employee told her there was no more) Which gave me the indication that she knew that what she had given me was not very much. Instead of saying anything about it to me, she just boxed my food and gave it to me. This time I opened my food to check it before I left. Again the chicken tenders were tiny but at least they included more than 5 this time, but when I looked at my side of jambalaya rice it was only filled up not even half way up the container(and I mean barely!!!) So I then brought it to another worker’s attention that was behind the counter about the jambalaya rice being ridiculously small, and that they need to either add more into both containers or else I need to get offered something else. He agreed and gave me another side of red beans & rice. Which made things ok for me. But the most disappointing thing was the customer service I received from the girl that rang me up & boxed my food. You would think that if she had to ask for more rice because she thought it wasn’t sufficient enough, that she would have then told me and offered me something else additionally. I feel like her not not bringing it to my attention, and not trying to resolve the issue was very sneaky like she was just assuming I wouldn’t look at my food until I got home when it would then be too late. At no time did she say anything or apologize to me. I just took my food and left … But I will never ever be returning to this location again because of my experiences and paying $ 20 for my food in total, also with paying a $ 1 additional each for the 2 sides of jambalaya rice that were so tiny. I understand that this was late evening a couple of hours before they were closing but this is really ridiculous. Very poor customer service & very stingy with the food portions! They want too much money for that kind of service all the way around!

Mac n cheese was dry and sour… cashier was the worse. Talked to someone off to the side rather than taking the order correctly. And then just gave me a receipt that, unknown to me due to the cashier just handing it over as if that were it, needed to be signed and handed back for… just bad service…

This location is a mess. If you have customers waiting in line for more than 10 minutes to order(really should be 5), you should probably let them know you’re out of biscuits and chicken tenders beforehand. If you can’t do it verbally put a sign on the door. They offered substituting the biscuits for an apple pie or a fountain drink. Obviously I’m going for the pie… Which u didn’t even give me. And then you left out you didn’t have corn either and your shrimp… Smh the saddest pieces of fried shrimp I’ve ever seen. Close this location down and open others please!

out of strips and bizkitz that’s the dumbest thing i can even imagine. someone should be sacked! gross incompetence and negligence! what’s really weird, is that the girl at the counter didn’t even ask if i wanted spicy or regular… so obviously they were out of all of the strips which is so much worse than just one. and biscuits? losers.

The chicken at Popeyes is whatever you’ll find at any Popeyes. No better or worse. The service is pure crap. I called to confirm that they close at 10 and I get there at 9:51 and the door is locked with customers still inside eating and ordering. I’m going to file a formal complaint with their corporate office since if you close at ten and I call and you tell me you still have chicken and I can see that then that’s garbage.

The food at Popeye’s is good, better than the majority of fried chicken in the area – I’d only get my chicken there if I had a choice. But the service here is often slow and workers busy chatting. Main problem is running the gauntlet of derelicts and filth in the entryway and parking lot. By the time I’ve done that, appetite gone. CLEANUPPOPEYE’S!

Always always friendly, even when my friends are being drunk idiots. Nine times out of ten the service is fast. But that one time out of ten you will be sad. So very sad.

Super slow service staff is inattentive. Opened at 10am didn’t start taking orders till 10:15am. Female Manager was oblivious to line 4 people waiting to order, took her time counting cash in drawer

This place is good! I never thought I would be reviewing Popeyes fried chicken, however, today when I needed chicken for an office Christmas party I was concerned to read about the options up and down San Pablo. I recommend this place. It seems to be well run, and the chicken was good. No nightmare fried chicken story for me :-). Thanks to the other Unilocalers for saving me from the other options. Now I know where to come when I need my Popeyes fix!

Excellent crispy outer layer of fried chicken and fries! Exceed the expectations of what I was craving for! Place to go when autumn comes and temperature drops. I was really craving for some fried chicken comfort food for weeks. SafeWay has them, but that only turns me into wanting them more since those aren’t so great. After searching Unilocal and google, made some comparison with KFC, Churches, and other restaurants with great Unilocal reviews, decision comes down to here. Best of all, the customers in front of me even let me order first since my enthusiastic glance at menu must move them! Or they were just annoyed by my uncomfortably approach them to see the menu better. However, it is deep fried food and pretty grissy(a good kind of grissy), I think I will need some break before coming back here again. I am glad this place popped my popeyes cherry.

True… this Popeye ’ s always seems to be understaffed. So it is the slowest one I’ve ever been too. But the chicken is good when it’s hot. Love the giblets in the gravy. Makes KFC look and taste like what it is… steam/fried, greasy, mushy and sometimes unidentifiable. But the twelve piece box I got yesterday was hilarious. I think they feel threatened by the Colonels«finger lickin good» tag line. You see, 5 of those pieces were legs. They were all the size of my index finger! Here’s a picture to prove it. Still were good but not quite right for the price.

I’d been to at least 3 other Popeyes and this is the worst. Chicken, biscuit, fries are dry like being kept warm for too long. Iced tea was bad, didn’t have that sweet tea aroma. Got our order wrong. Looks like their staff can’t tell spicy from mild. Disappointed. The only thing satisfying was chicken nuggets in kid’s meal. Guess it’s made to order.

If you’re looking for twice your daily recommended sodium intake, maybe save yourself a trip here and just lick a block of salt for an hour.

Popeyes had a teaser on their window re 2 pieces fish(and chips?) for 4.55. traffic was so bad, i didn’t go for it. definitely will return. didn’t see this offer at any other popeyes. no regrets. really hate traffic. motto: just get in and out. no waiting., –i’ve got better things to do, like taking a nap,

What the hell is wrong in this hell world of ours that an f-ing Popeye’s doesn’t feature iced tea for a day? Southern junk food without sweet tea is like Burns without Allen, like Laurel without Hardy, like Captain without Tennille, like Hall without Oates… like a thing that normally is paired but now isn’t which is pretty good alone but a million times better together. The chicken and fish were screaming hot and delicious and the servers were very sweet, accurate, and spot on. The restaurant was clean and had reasonable parking which is practically nonexistent on Berkeley. Bonus for enough strongly flavored gravy to dip my biscuit once I’d finished my mashed potatoes. Solid, but fundamentally flawed.

Excellent first time experience! All thanks to one of the ladies who worked there. I wish I had gotten her name because she has excellent customer service skills. After the cashier took a while to take our order when we were clearly ready to order she confirmed with us before packing our meal what we wanted and picked out big pieces for us. I didn’t realize they had sweet tea as it was my first time going to Popeye’s and we had ordered a coke. As soon as I saw the sweet tea I asked her if she could exchange the coke for the sweet tea and she happily gave me the sweet tea which was very nice of her to do. I think her name started with an M if I’m not mistaken. I would come back just for her good customer service.

Got the two piece deal with spicy chicken. It came with fries and a biscuit. The chicken had a slight kick and was piping hot. Not too bad. The biscuit was warm and moist as a fast food biscuit should be. The fries come with some spices but these were cold and oily. I should have asked for fresh fries but was in a hurry. So only a two star for this particular order.

The gist: Better décor than BK, mediocre chicken, awesome outdoor seating area. Came here on 1.49 night. It’s $ 1.49 for two pieces of chicken. That’s a great deal. Some chickens are rolling over in their graves when they hear that price. The line was long. tuesday night. Only night the line is long at Popeyes. Some guy in line told us, «This is the most asians and africans I’ve ever seen in one place». Was it racist? A poor attempt at observational humor? we may never know. It was smoky and hot in there, but they had a great circle in the ceiling with their name in it. Also jars full of half empty ingredients like rice, peppers, beans. It was pretty awesome. The food took a long time, but I was catching up with a buddy so it was all good. They got our order right, but there was no easy access napkins or ketchup. Minus a star. Outside, it was perfect. A little chilly, but quiet. I wish they served beer here, but you gotta draw the line somewhere. Hard to exit with that long line. Wish the outdoor area had its own exit, but what can you do.

Fuming. Unreal… the order was just 3 items. R U JOKINGME?!? Try a wait of almost an hour, and unyielding, horrible attitude workers who kept on screwing up my order. Try surviving a mess up of at least 5 – 6 in number!!! Try no communication between members working there and having me wait needlessly when I myself clearly saw the new pan of spicy strips being filled… grossest thing yet was someone picking up the tongs to grab the cluck, and then grabbing the handle of a broom to sweep. An indignant attitude when I tried to point out their errors, update them. They forgot my baked pie. After all that horrible experience, the girl actually —-& mind you, as I was picking up my plastic bag order— instead of apologizing profusely —- audibly and exasperatedly harped, «oh my GAWD»… REALLY?!? I am boycotting for a long time. They should install a punitive policy: 1 piece of chicken de gratis for each error made… or wait more than 10 mins. for a reasonable order, and that order is free. Geeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee I am stunned. PS interestingly, they deleted my previous review. Add, to all this, a dolt and irresponsible bicyclist, talking on his cell ph and not bothering to even look behind him as he LEISURELY crossed San Pablo! What!
