«I am aware that for whatever reason Subway trains its employees to drown the sandwiches they make in whatever sauce or dressing the customer orders. I have been aware of this for years. As a result I always ask for „not too much“ mustard when I order mustard. In this case the employee had such a blank look on his face the entire time he served me that I was VERY careful. „I would like a very small amount of spicy mustard on the BMT.“ „This sandwich?“ „Yes, that one.“ „This mustard?“ „Yep, that’s the one. A very small amount, please.“ I thought we were on the right track. Evidently not — the employee squeezed the mustard bottle as he held it over one end of the sandwich for a good 1 – 2 seconds, creating a HUGE glob of mustard, then sloooowly moved it across the sandwich’s 12-inch length, so that no inch of that footlong didn’t have at least a good couple of tablespoons of mustard on it. I was so taken aback that I protested verbally — „Okay, yeah, that’s WAY too much. I asked for a small amount.“ He shrugged very slightly and asked if I’d like anything else on my sandwiches. I won’t soon be visiting this Subway again, and on the next occasion I’m craving it and I do stop by, if I see this employee making sandwiches I promise you I will turn around, walk across the street, and get some dried-out artificial-cheese-dust-flavored taquito husks for lunch from the 7 – 11, because at least then I can be confident that I’m going to get what I ask for. This employee was absolutely unbelievable. I legitimately couldn’t tell if he was being disrespectful or was just incredibly stupid, but either way he clearly doesn’t care about his job. I’ve had bad experiences at Subway before but this takes the cake.» That’s what I just gave as my feedback on . Came here to post on Unilocal and I wanted to add a caveat. It’s long been clear to me that the most accurate way to judge the quality of an establishment using Unilocal reviews is to read the bad reviews and the more obvious cranks you find, the nicer the place. By that measure, this Subway storefront has an unfairly low rating — people who complain about paying taxes, people who complain about its literal existence as a Subway, people with thinly-veiled racist agendas — but I assure you I am shedding no tears in this instance as this establishment’s low rating is RICHLY deserved.

The staff is very friendly, I go here for lunch all the time, however they do have a high turn over rate of employees, so sometimes the quality of the sandwhiches is sub par because there’s always new employees, but over all this is a good location.

Their employees are in general very unfriendly. There is a hidden charge for dining in toasting as of June 2015 which is completely implicit and makes zero sense. All menu items are never available. And the servers are always busy baking bread while you are waiting which can take up to five minutes. Very poor service, pricing and quality.

Ugh… I was not a fan of this place, but sadly enough, I went here quite often. As a broke college student, their $ 5 footlongs were too good to pass up. The thing I always noticed about this place is the FLIES. There were always FLIES. ALL. THE. TIME. Not exactly a vote of confidence for the cleanliness of this fine establishment. Sandwiches are like any other Subway. Bread tastes like newspaper. Meat all tastes similar, even the ham and turkey. You’ll load up on the vegetables if you’re trying to get your money’s worth, but this inevitably causes your entire sandwich to taste like lettuce. I did this everytime sadly. TIP: If you don’t toast your sandwich, they don’t charge tax. But then you have to make the sacrifice of tasting an unfiltered Subway sandwich. At least it’s super close to the school. And there’s a homeless guy who sits outside on the corner who politely says ‘Good morning’ every time you walk by him.

Under the current ownership, service has been good. Food is the same at all Subways, so not much to say there. At this location, it seems that everything is kept fresh, the place is clean, and the servers are speedy. I have recently become a fan of the chopped salad.(I bring back my plastic container for refilling; it has lasted through at least half-a-dozen salads. One thing I wish Subway would change is the amount of plastic — salad boxes, plastic bags for sandwiches.)

Placed an order for 12 sandwiches for a meeting. Thank you Kristen for your excellent service and patience. I will always remember that!

This location is awful, and I wouldn’t recommend coming here especially if you are in a hurry and if there is more than one person in line. I came here recently with a few friends, and for just a few orders, they took forever to prepare my sandwich, and sadly I’m going to have to blame the staff on this one. Other subways in the area(like the Bancroft and Telegraph location) are a lot better at handling larger crowds, and manage to get you in and out quite fast. There were only two people working during my latest visit, and I was almost surprised by the utter lack of efficiency of the place. The person preparing the sandwiches was busy having a conversation with the customer ahead of me about her classes. She wasn’t even preparing his sandwich when talking to him, and they were legitimately having a conversation for a while when there was clearly a line forming behind them. I’m sorry, but I’m sure she wasn’t being paid to talk to customers about life. While she might be nice, it’s really annoying and unprofessional to other guests that may be visiting this location. The other person working was also quite slow, which gives me the impression that this subway is not capable of handling any type of crowd greater than just one person. They also skimp out on a lot of the sandwich fillings here, so you may have to ask for them to put more inside. At one point I had to even ask to see for a topping more than once because I thought he didn’t hear me, and he told me that he had already put it in. I was surprised because I could barely see it in my sandwich. If you’re in the mood for subway, I strongly suggest visiting the other location further down telegraph because this one is just not worth the time or the money in my honest opinion.

After ordering by phone, they called me back to let me know they were out of the type bread I wanted. When I arrived, ~10min. later, my sandwiches were ready. The service was friendly and fast. Both of my sandwiches were made to order.

Subways are one of the few fast food chains where you can eat fairly healthfully. I get lots of spinach on my sandwiches, and if you get chicken or a veggie patty(they now have a falafel sandwich) you can avoid nitrite-laden lunch meats. The service at this particular Subway is better than at some others. Might be because they don’t have many customers. Downside of this place is that their iced tea is either their honey Fuze, loaded with sugar, or their raspberry tea, also with plenty of sugar. Some other Subways offer unsweetened Fuze tea. And as other posters mentioned, the employees at this Subway(and others) lack enthusiasm. I don’t blame them: low wages and not much of a career aspiration.

I hate subway in general. This one is the worst because their stench of vinegar invades the apartment building next to/above it.

Order to go since there’s not much room to eat here. Other than that, it’s a normal Subway. The staff wasn’t the best, neither was it the worst. They weren’t attentive or enthusiastic, nor were they pissed off or cranky. Just average. I just paid for my foot longs and left to go watch the Chuck finale(probably the only reason why I eat there. Blatant product placement works). Berkeley is an area with very diverse local food. Don’t settle for Subway unless you really want to eat fresh.

Subway to go. It is Subway, so you pretty much know what to expect. The local is quite small and not very comfortable, so I suggest you order to go. Service is quite fast for how busy they get and the sandwich assembly was pretty good. I hate it when ingredients are just thrown randomly without any consideration about how the sandwich will taste. It seemed like they were at least trying. I find Subways to be pretty good value since the sandwiches are not expensive and are quite large and filling.

This subway is like most subways. I tend to frequent this one more than the one that’s across campus because the people here seem friendlier and I live closer to this one. I had this really bad experience here once when the lettuce was very wilted and brown. I asked if they had«fresh lettuce» and they said no so I had to forgo the lettuce. What subway doesn’t have fresh lettuce??? Lettuce is probably the most popular vegetable at a subway. Also sometimes they don’t have fresh bread, specially their wheat bread which I get most of the times. It’s been hard and stale.

The employees here are kinda mean. I’ve always been scared of their facial hair too. They’ve got some crazy styles going on in there man, and it seems like all of the employees are in on it. Come on you’re in Berkeley. There is so much amazing food around you. Don’t settle for Subway! If you want a sandwich, head on over to Cheese n Stuff. You’ll be living like a rich man eating a poorboy. Also, there’s like a little café attached to this subway. Who would ever buy anything from there is what I always think when I pass by. Hmmm? Wierdos that’s who.

I’ve come here quite a few times because I walked a lot around Berkeley, mostly from Blake down to Ashby. The people here are pretty nice, but it’s so empty, so it makes me doubt if the sandwich material is fresh. But I got the Build Your Breakfast Deal and they were pretty helpful. They actually gave me cream and sugar packets, unlike the Bancroft one that just pointed to the corner so I could get everything myself.

So we’ve all been to a subway before, I’m sure and this one is no different with their sandwiches and ingredients and such. But what really stands out to me about this Subway is their TERRIBLE customer service! They literally look at you like an alien if you request anything different from the standard ingredients. Once one of their employees sprayed vinegar all over my sandwich after I clearly asked for it on the side. They have such bad attitudes here that I actually hate going to this one. I have almost actually complained to corporate about how bad it is.

Pretty much like most Subways I’ve been to, except this one is extremely busy. They follow corporate pretty closely in how they do stuff, how they make stuff, and how they price stuff. I don’t like how they don’t accept a Subway rewards card, nor honor gift cards. Definitely an inconvenience as the next Subway is quite a distance away. The staff isn’t the best since they’re cranky serving so many customers but that’s to be expected. They literally don’t change their facial expression. It only goes from bored, to shoot-me-now-bored. Not many places to sit down and eat here. There’s about 5 seats looking out onto the street(open window) which is pretty cool. Usually the seats are taken though. Always go for the $ 5 footlong and nothing else.

The guy behind the counter was so lame. My girlfriend had to use the bathroom sooooooooo bad, we were getting close to finding a bush, it was 9:45 and subway was open and I saw the restroom sign on a door. I go and grab a $ 2 water and ask for the bathroom key. «The Bathroom is out of order» why is there not a sign? your kidding me!!! Luckily the chevron down the street was awesome. Your lucky you still have $ 5 foot longs, but I will go to other locations before this one!

Won’t be going here again. After watching the cashier sneeze into his hands and wipe his nose with his fingers, then grab the next customer’s sandwich and give him change without washing up, I had to say something. And he argued that the sandwich was in its wrapper. Does nobody understand how germs are spread? He finally did wash his hands and I had to give a demonstration of how to cough/sneeze into one’s elbow to avoid hand contamination. I couldn’t bring myself to order anything at that point, so I went up the street to an absolutely lovely Tandoor Kitchen experience.
