TargetExpress

SUPER CONVENIENT TARGET IN DOWNTOWN. Like SUPER convenient. They don’t have many of the items that my local Target has, but it has some of the items that I would need in a hurry. That is why it’s a TargetExpress. It is a little more expensive than at my regular Target but I have a Target RedCard and getting 5% off every time I shop is amazing.

Came across this little mini target on shattuck. Very cool and nice little place. Has a little of everything that a usual target would have.

This Target Express is extremely light in inventory. I agree with other reviewers that it really felt more like a glorified pharmacy store. The apparel section was limited to a few Tshirts and some workout gear. There’s plenty of makeup though.
I guess this is good if you want some quick bites to eat or a drink, but other than that it’s not a place I’d go out of my way for, of course! At least the aesthetic is nice.

I was so excited when they were building this, but honestly it seems more like a glorified CVS.
The prices are consistently higher than a bigger Target store. The selection is limited. They have lots of Cal gear and random things, but when it comes to practical items like body wash or Epsom salt, they’re choices are quite limited.
Long lines, over priced items, and limited selection outweigh convenient location. Overall just not impressed.

Target Express is targeting UC students/​personnel. most inventory is food or pharmaceutical related. no bargains on meds. didn’t peruse much else.

Stopped in looking for Christmas cards, they had a few but not a very large selection. The story carries a bit of everything and merchandise seems to be targeting the college crowd. To that end having this location close to campus is probably a good play on their part. I’ll stick to the regular target though moving forward for household supplies.
Also you have the usual downtown Berkeley parking game to play if you come here.

This Target is pretty pathetic. It should be called Target Lite, not Target Express. It’s no better than a CVS or Walgreens. The only thing that makes it better — hence the 2 stars instead of just 1 — is that it’s cleaner and has a better layout than CVS and Walgreens.

This review is based on the jumbo green grapes I bought tonight. They’re on the very top right shelf of the fridge. I bought them not realizing that they were FROZEN. Now I have a bag full of super soggy grapes… WTF

I haven’t been this let down since the ending of Sopranos more than a decade ago. I mean, really? What’s the purpose of having a «Target» that isn’t a «Target.» And they had the nerve to put the regular aisle signs up like it was all good. «Apparel» for a couple of socks and a belt or two? For shame. Target needs to get up out of the CVS/​Rite Aid-​wannabe business and stick to what it knows. This ain’t it.

I just want to start by saying that I am basing this review strictly on my experience today and today only. I have had good experiences at this Target location, so this post does not reflect all of the other experiences I’ve had.
With that said, I wanted to comment on the guy at the register who rung me up today. I didn’t catch his name, but he was a tall, darker skinned, older gentleman with glasses and I felt that he was quite rude. I was getting the vibe that he wanted didn’t want my business. It wasn’t what he said, but the way he said it that suggested that wanted me out of his sight as fast as possible. While I was paying for my items, he told me what to press on the screen in a rushed, rude and condescending manner, even before I had a chance to read what the screen said. Even if there was a long line of people behind me, you should not be giving your customers the impression that you’re trying to rush them out or don’t want their business.
There were other times when I was paying for my items and I admit, I could have probably moved a little faster in putting my things away, but the sales associates helping me at the cashier were nice about it and let me finish before making themselves available for the next customer.
In conclusion, I will not hold this isolated experience against the store as a whole. I will still shop at this particular Target location because it has good prices on the things I usually buy and is close to where I live. However, if I do happen to see that particular gentleman at the cashier again, I will make sure to avoid him from helping me check out.

Kind of an overkill since there is already a CVS and a Walgreens within two blocks of Target Express. The goods is that some of their stuff is cheaper. I love Honey bunches of oats cereal, and they were nearly half price at Target compared to CVS and Wallgreens. But then CVS occasionally has a 2-​for-​5 $ prices that I am willing to wait for.
I was really hoping for more Target-​ian goods, such as towels, shower racks or baskets, lamps, furniture, kitchen utilities, or maybe even clothes. Essentially, students without cars wouldn’t need to haul their asses to the actual Target or Ikea. Currently, the Target Express is just another copy of the CVS and Walgreens, and doesn’t really give me more incentive to choose Target Express over the other two.

This place is fun and cool to have nearby. Fruit is fresh, plentiful and cheaper than at Walgreens (can score a 2 lb carton of strawberries for $ 2 and a carton of raspberries [my favs] for $ 1.49 every once in a while, those things are usually like 4.95!)
When it opened, i remember finding some chocolate bark stuff for 3.25 or so versus Walgreens’ 4.99 so i was psyched. but now its back up to 4.89 or something. boo.
Regular Targets also are ahead of the game when it comes to frozen vegan products (gardien, boca, beyond meat etc.) so i was hopeful for this location, but all they have is one selection of veggie chikn patties and they’re sick ass target brand teryiaki strips. hopefully they’ll get start stocking more meatless alternatives at some point.
My biggest gripe though is in such a small space, with maybe 5 or 6 rows of display for food, WHY DO WE NEED 2.5 ROWS OF CANDY??? it’s the first thing you see from the window and it’s too much!
Other than that, it’s clean, fun, a quick stop, has pretty much all the essentials and customer service is WAY better/​friendlier than Walgreens.

This place is just like any Target but mini! It’s super cute and more importantly, it’s extremely convenience for us college kids living close to get anything we need for home, school, or just for fun. You can get anything from a plastic wine goblet to milk to a $ 150 Fitbit Charge HR. Yes, I bought those things on my first visit here. So what?

I don’t really get this Target Express thing.
For many a time, students at UC Berkeley was extremely hyped for an alleged Target opening near campus. I mean, when the nearest Target is in Oakland/​Emeryville and is essentially an hour bus ride away, what not to like?
What we got was not Target, it was Target Express.
So what’s a Target Express anyway? Imagine an average drugstore like Walgreens and CVS plastered with the iconic red target and red décor all over. That’s Target Express.
You have aisles upon aisles of the usual drugstore affair you may or may not need, but it’s all stuff you could’ve gotten elsewhere anyway. Fresh produce? Nowhere to be found, really. Cheap clothes? Well, I guess you can get underwear and socks. Electronics, games, and other things that make Target an interesting experience? Nowhere to be found. I thought I had found a haven where I could actually buy games and not have them completely gutted like at GameStop, but I guess not.
Also, there’s no bathroom. Like the only reason I ever go to Target is the fact that they do have bathrooms, and now there’s another location that does not have public restrooms in Berkeley, for better or worse.
TIP: You can buy stuff here, I guess.

Who doesn’t love Target? Now there’s a Target Express conveniently located in downtown!
The differences between this store and the full sized ones in Albany/​Emeryville are that this location does not stock any apparel, furniture, etc. It has mostly food, a few electronics, make up, and basic household items.
I love that I can stop by here and pick up random items that I may need such as headphones, insoles, etc. Although, I feel like this location has $ 1-​$ 2 higher prices on certain items so keep that in mind!

Having a Target Express downtown (near BART and UCB) is awesome and convenient. This store has a pharmacy, tech section, and various other typical items you can find in a Target. Yes, because it’s a Target Express, the store is smaller. However, that means you’d probably spend less. (You know you walk into Target needing one item, but you always walk out with a cart full of stuff!)
Very clean. Great customer service. No alcohol (boo…)!

When Walgreens moved across the street at the old Ross/​JC Penney location, I wondered what business location would be established here. Voilá! Target Express! I saw a ceramic «Bullseye» statue on a platform that folks could take selfies with in front of the store when there were promotions to celebrate this Target Express’s opening in beautiful Downtown Berkeley (around the first week of March).
This Target Express is smaller than the chain of Target stores I am used to. It is more of a convenience store, and it appears to cater to the tech and social media clientele of UC Berkeley and the People’s Republic of Berkeley.
They carry a lot more of the well-​known brand name items here as well as those that are exclusive to Target. They sell a selection of Apple products here in this Target Express such as iPods, iPads, and iPhones. One would not see iPads and iPods in either Walgreens and CVS.
I stopped in to Target Express to purchase back-​up screen protectors and another lightening charger for my iPhone – this time in pink! I forgot to bring my charger and my back-​up charger – so I had to rush in and get another one as it was going to be a LONG day at Cal – and I knew I had plug-​in options as to where to plug in.
Like its competitors near by, Target Express has Berkeley and Cal merchandise to purchase. Just like their surrounding neighbors, especially NorCal Action Sports a couple of doors down.
This establishment is very organized and clean. Considering it just opened, it is easy to move about and explore amongst the classic red stacks of goods and merchandise.
The customer service is spot on professional. No surly attitudes when seeking assistance and asking questions. Very prompt and courteous in customer service. The associates are friendly and professional for certain!
I will definitely be back at Target Express!

Great alternative to a CVS or Walgreens. The store is super well designed and has a great selection of all the essentials a college student would need. You can tell by the neatly stacked shelves that the staff puts a lot of care into properly organizing the store.
More expensive than your typical target but at least on par to (if not better than) the CVS and Walgreens in the area.

Express, as in exprenssive! Prices comparable to Walgreens (CVS is by far the worst, in terms of prices & customer service). This Target is itty, bitty, tiny, tiny. They have way more items at the other stores. Target does exceed in its tech/​gadget department, carrying a couple of Apple products & whatnot. Two stars because it is Target & I love the familiar bullseye. Plus, I can use my Redcard, so there’s that… I guess.
They should have just torn down some of the crap we have in downtown & build a REAL Target. Disappointed.
