First time going to Julianos and was very impressed. Four for dinner, we all had something different, all were very pleased. Waiter was exceptional.

Great restaurant in the heart of the city with a long history. Karl is a great chef with years of experience and ensures the fish is fresh never frozen. The menu changes every three months which also ensures the greatest ingredients. Lots of outside seating and private rooms upstairs.

This place is AMAZING! I had the fresh Mahi and have to say it was in the top 3 I’ve ever had. I grew up in Cali and spent a lot of time on the ocean and this is as good as it gets! My wife had a scallop pastry that was to die for! We started the meal off with a Chilean sea bass cheek and crab app that was also 5 star incredible. Did you know that Chilean sea bass is a made up word? The fish is actually called the Patagonian toothfish! The place is kind of hard to find. It’s in a residential neighborhood. It’s super quaint and great atmosphere. If your looking for great seafood in Billings… look no further!!!

I love this place! The owner is from Hawaii and flies fresh fish from Oahu! He has won several culinary accolades and other chefs travel to Billings to learn his techniques! The menu changes monthly and is always an appealing culinary adventure!

This is the best place in Billings if you’re after an excellent culinary experience. Menu varies all the time and after dozens of meals there, I can say that every one has been top-drawer. Pleasant, professional, and experienced wait staff. Location in an old house is quaint … maybe not so chic, but cosy and quiet(you can actually have a conversation and you don’t have to endure someone else’s taste in music).

Our office ordered lunch to go. Very good food, fresh ingredients. I ordered rare ahi tuna salad which did not seem sashimi grade but had good flavor. Reasonably priced. Recommend.

I make it a point to visit Juliano’s every time I’m in Billings. The food and wine are first class here, and the atmosphere is great. In my most recent trip(for my birthday), I had elk tenderloins in a delicious berry reduction sauce with garlic mashed potatoes and fresh sauteed veggies. Each item was cooked to perfection, the flavors were spectacular, and our wine complemented the meal beautifully. Even my salad was great; the chef’s handmade dressings are creative and delicious. I would recommend this to anyone looking for an amazing dining experience in MT.

ChefKurokawa’s new Sept. menu looks delicious. The pulled pork and sauerkraut panini Was spectacular. However, I was put off by the waitress’s description of the bibinka(Filipino coconut cake) as «squares of cake with stuff poured over it.» What? I know it’s a new menu but come on. Big negative was the dirty toilet bowl yuck.

Argh! I really wanted to love this place, but I was just disappointed. After reading all the great reviews, I thought it had to be good, right? Unfortunately both my husband and I were not impressed… I had the chicken which came with risotto and vegetables. Both the risotto and the veg were very bland. There was also some pickled red cabbage and the juice from that was running into everything else on the plate. The chicken was not anything special… It did have brie and prosciutto on top, but it tasted too salty for me. My husband had the steak and prawns. He said the steak was very fatty and it was maybe about 6 ounces. He did say the prawns were excellent. I really enjoyed the atmosphere at Juliano’s. It was quiet and we sat outside on the patio. Our waitress was very nice and our water glasses were always full.

First off let me say that Juliano’s is always a treat. I don’t get up to Montana too often, but when I do Juliano’s is almost always our first dinner stop. The most recent trip to Billings saw us at Juliano’s on a weekday evening and it was surprisingly packed. Unfortunately they were extremely understaffed that night and our poor server was in a frenzy as she tried to help everyone. It ended up being about an hour before she came to take our order. She did keep us well supplied with the crusty and fluffy loaves of bread and water though. That wait was definitely a fluke, usually it’s much more prompt. Appetizers — Skewered Hawaiian Prawns and Strawberry. Putting strawberries on the grill really released some warmth of flavors I did not expect, a perfect accompaniment to the shrimp. Dip them in the agua fresca! Octopus Tempura. The wasabi tartar sauce really made this dish — creamy with a subtle heat from the wasabi. Would definitely recommend this for people who like calamari. Creamy Brie and Apple Soup. A cup of this was very, very good. It felt like eating a melted cheese soup, but not in a thick heavy melted cheesey way. Somehow, the lightness of a soup was preserved and the tartness of the apple kept it from being overwhelming. Dip that bread in there, do it. Dinner — Grape Leaf Wrapped Salmon. I split this and our waitress very kindly brought it out on two plates for us. The smashed potatoes were more like whipped potatoes, very airy and savory. There was a sweet and tasty pile of red cabbage hiding behind some steamed veggies that still had some nice fresh snap to them. The salmon was very fresh and firm. I feel like the grape leaves didn’t add any additional flavors. It was rather more of a way to let the fish steam itself in the wrap and preserve the creamy flavor and texture of the fish. I would definitely order it again. Wine — Davis Bynum Pinot Noir. From the Russian River Valley in Sonoma Country. Like most pinots it was very drinkable even when our table focused on mostly seafood dishes! This wine self-describes as «Rich and soft with a well-focused fruit & balanced acidity». Come to Juliano’s when you can. It’s a real treat and the atmosphere of the converted home feels casually upscale.

If my scottie dog was Toto and Cleveland = Kansas, I would have a better starting line for this review. Because, even though I don’t THINK we are in Cleveland anymore, it sure felt like it when we stepped into this place. And, for those Unilocalers that don’t know about the Cleveland Food Scene, I am sorry. The scene in Cleveland is progressive, thanks to the likes of Food Network Stars(and Clevelanders) like Chris Hodgson and Michael Symon. Enough nostalgia about CLE though — this place reminded me of a Cleveland restaurant. Unique, local, fresh, and delicious! The service was incredible. The food was amazing. The boy ordered some sort of fish that I can’t remember anymore. I ordered an incredibly fresh piece of Walu, done perfectly. The meal started with sushi(on the house) and fresh, warm bread. My fish came with delicious blue cheese smashies. I was in heaven. I wish we would have left room for dessert because it looked incredible. We sat on the patio and it had the perfect ambiance. Kind of reminded me of being at home on a Mexican patio, grilling steaks and visiting with family. This is a definite gem and a repeat favorite.

Disappointed. We went here last night for my husband’s birthday and it has good reviews and someone else we know confirmed it was a good place for a date night so we were super excited! We are new to Billings and are looking forward to try everything out. First off, we decided to sit inside and as a result we had pretty lousy service. Oh, our server was kind and prompt when there but she would disappear for at least 15 minutes at a time and even getting up and looking around for someone did not help unless I wanted to go into the kitchen or outside to the patio(where the majorite of the tables seemed to be and thus the one server, too). The service was incredibly slow and that is a large part of the reason for the 3 stars. The sushi appetizer and the fresh bread served at the beginning were absolutely fantastic. I was so hungry though and the service was so slow that I ate too much bread while waiting to order dinner and for dinner to arrive. The salad was just basically lettuce with a couple of apple slices which was fine. I ordered the BBQ walu(escolar) and I admit the BBQ fish was amazing! It was cooked perfectly and came out piping hot. The rest of my plate though was room temperature as if everything had been waiting for my fish to be cooked. The fried rice was good, the steamed veggies were bland. Why not get a skewer and some sauce and grill the veggies of something to give them some character? The cabbage was out of place in my opinion. My husband ordered the roasted duckling which was dry and the skin was not even crispy so that was a disappointment, although the plum sauce was very tasty. His dish had the same sides and was also lukewarm about them. My white wine, gewerztraminer, was not chilled but rather served room temperature which I though quite odd. Another thing that disappointed me was that there were no vegetarian choices on the menu. I usually eat vegetarian and most places have at least one veg offering but there was nothing here. The entrees run about $ 30 each so for that price I expect everything, both food and service, to be excellent. I found out when we arrived that my husband had eaten lunch there one day with some business associates(he didn’t remember the name but when we arrived he knew he had been there before) and he said nothing about that lunch stood out to him, either. Maybe my expectations were too high but I expected better. We didn’t have dessert there but went home for cake and ice cream instead.

Hands down, our very favorite restaurant in Billings. Fresh, fresh, fresh and interesting menu that changes seasonally. My husband has had the chicken fried lamb and said it was one of the top five meals of his life(and he has had the pleasure of eating at many great places around the world). No one can beat their seafood. The staff is professional and knowledgeable. This is THE perfect date restaurant. Even better because it’s within walking distance of our home :)

What a wonderful place! Growing up in town, my family never ventured to such places. But when I knew I was visiting, I got on Unilocal and found this place. My mother, sister, and myself went out for a nice dinner… Here goes… Ambiance: Its a house converted into a restaurant. It is very cute and cozy, but there are some updates that could be made. I love that they kept the original bathroom upstairs, but get rid of the ugly carpet and the towel dispenser on the wall. Put out towels on the counter instead. The seating upstairs is really wonderful, but we sat downstairs, which was just as nice. They should install some speakers and play soft music. Otherwise, it gets quiet and you feel like you have to whisper so as to not talk over the people at other tables. Also, the plates and glasses are very dated, but that is minor. This place has an overall good ambiance, but has the potential to be amazing. 3.5÷5 Service: Our waiter was extremely pleasant and prompt. But I do have a nit. An amuse bouche was brought to our table. At no time did he explain what we were eating. It was three pieces of a sushi roll, but I wasn’t sure what was in the roll. Other than that, service was very good. 4⁄5 Food: We ordered the spicy prawns and the baked brie for appetizers. The brie was amazing. It was fresh wrapped in a light dough and served with warm apples. The spicy prawns were also wonderful. They definitely had a kick, but nothing to out of control. The bread that came out was also warm and tasty and served with a light olive oil with garlic and herbs. My sister had a cup of the cheeseburger chowder and house salads came for my mom and I. The soup was delicious, but really heavy. We each only had a couple bites. The salads were fresh spring greens with a light vinaigrette. A perfect start. My mother had the fillet, which was served with pickled cabbage, veggies, and smashed red potatoes. All of it was outstanding and cooked perfectly. My sister and I split the lamb picatta which was served with risotto, pickled cabbage and veggies. Again, everything was wonderful. The risotto was good, just not as creamy as I would have liked. But I still ate every bite. For dessert we split the kona coffee cake. It was perfection. And the bottle of wine the chef recommended was a great compliment to the entire meal. 4.5÷5 Food, excellent. Service, great. Ambiance can use some updating, but good. Overall a great date night/special occasion place to get a wonderful meal. You really need to check it out if you are in town.

You know you are in for a culinary adventure when a restaurant with an Italian name kicks off your meal with a glass of ice water… and a sushi roll. This weekend I visited Billings, Montana, where my boyfriend has been working for the past couple months. For my visit he had planned a romantic dinner for two at an upscale steakhouse(I know, «Awww!») but switched up his game plan when the owner of a local coffee shop recommended Juliano’s. His reasoning for passing on the steakhouse was that you can find places like that just about anywhere. And I can now personally guarantee that there is no place like Juliano’s ANYWHERE but Billings, Montana. We took a cab from the hotel, and had not the taxi driver known where the place was located, I certainly would have missed it. Nestled unceremoniously in a residential neighborhood, Juliano’s is located inside a converted Victorian home. We sat in the side yard under an umbrella, surrounded by twinkling Christmas lights and beautiful paintings mounted on the fence. There was even a table of people eating in the outdoor gazebo. The upstairs bedrooms have also been converted to restaurant seating, and the antique bathtub in the ladies room has been converted into a table using a slab of marble and a vase of flowers. When I think of the menu at Juliano’s, the words«eclectic» and«inventive» come to mind. We tried Juliano’s «Wine of The Week», a silky pinot noir, as well as a delicious and velvety miso corn chowder appetizer. I got an absolutely incredible entrée of grilled octopus, braised pork belly and blue cheese lasagna, and my boyfriend got a succulent filet mignon wrapped in bacon and topped with apples and blue cheese. Things To Know: — As we took a cab, I did not happen to notice what the parking situation is like. Call ahead to find out! — If you’ve never been to Montana, you should know they have very strict policies regarding alcohol. So even if you are 4 times the legal drinking age, be prepared to show your ID. Additionally, there is a 3-drink per night statewide maximum, so if you think you’re going to wrangle your old frat bro’s and get schwastey-face Montana-style, you can think again. — DO take advice from the locals! We never would have had the opportunity to enjoy this truly unique dining experience had Boyfriend not chatted up the owner of the local coffee shop. As I sit writing this review from the food court of a Minneapolis airport scarfing down chicken and lo mein from the ever-classy«Wok N Roll», I am dreaming wistfully of the good old days when I supped on exotic delicacies and drank wine hand selected by a master, all in a setting to rival Tavern on the Green – you know… yesterday.

I’ve been here a few times and certainly my favorite place to eat in town. This could be the old Victorian home it’s in or the fact that he prepares my seared ahi tuna correctly. Either way he does his seafood right. That’s probably due to the fact that the owner and chef is Hawaiian rather than Italian as the name suggests. The atmosphere is relaxing and cozy, the service is incredibly friendly and the food is prepared and presented with nothing short of the highest standards. A few small but note-worthy things: they have a coat room, a good and high– quality wine list. During summer they have a variety of special events from pairings including microwbrews, wine and cigars on the patio to a yearly Hawaiian culture dinners. And plan to be there for at least an hour and half for dinner– you’ll want to hang out and finish that bottle of wine.
