After my third visit, I give up! Between incredibly indifferent, almost zombie like servers to dirty tables and jacked up food, I can see no reason to spend another dime here. On our first visit, our food was hot but I had to track down a server after a lengthy wait to pay our check. On our second visit, our order wasn’t nearly as warm as it could have been and once again, I had to track someone down so that we could pay and leave. The final straw was my last visit, we had our choice of several dirty tables to sit at and I ordered a Cookies and Cream shake, which had about a quarter teaspoon of cookies in it-it was straight shake base – I asked and they don’t have ice cream, only shake base. My daughter’s sundae sat under the heat lamp so long, it was liquid with chocolate syrup. I’m really glad our server got her smoke break in, though, she reeked of smoke and that is beyond unappetizing to me. Clearly, this location has a lot of problems, I’m not sure if it’s a lack of training or if everyone who works there is miserable and hates their job. Needless to say, I won’t be back to find out.

Terrible service and not great food. Most orders came out prepared incorrectly. Have waited a long time to get a steak and shake in town and I have to say I’m very disappointed. We have tried it a few times now and we probably won’t be going back.

I can’t believe the owners of this place haven’t done something about the terrible service that patrons have been complaining about! I am baffled anyone can stand to still go here. I am a fan of the shakes, the food, the prices… but none of it is worth the attitude from the staff, the terrible wait time, the dirty restaurant, or the cold food that seems to be associated with it. No thanks, until things significantly change!

So they decided to arbitrarily change their hours to close at 9pm in the winter. But when we arrived at 8:45pm on a Tuesday, we walked in to every chair turned up on the tables, and every unoccupied booth covered with dirty dishes. When we asked the hostess if they were closing, she turned to look at the clock, and we saw a half dozen staff in the kitchen standing around doing nothing and glaring at us. The message was clear: they didn’t want our business. If you want to close at 8:30, just close at 8:30. Don’t make customers feel unwelcome for coming by during your actual working hours. We went to another restaurant that was happy to have our business ten minutes before *their* kitchen closed.

I love Steak-n-Shake but this place is ridiculously slow. It seems no one knows what there job is, or is in a hurry. Could be a real going business as lots of people were here — unfortunately half of them left because no one sat them… and there were lots of open tables. We have been waiting for our meal for over 40 mins so expectations are high if and when it arrives… it arrived and was cold…

I’m twenty, and a server, and it is my pet peeve to be waited on and immediately judged because I am young. This place had absolutely horrible service. Our server was beyond rude — all business, no hospitality. Our food was good, but we got it after 3 families who came in after us got theirs, and we are just two polite people. Service time was unacceptable, and our server never once smiled, apologized for the wait, or even made eye contact. When we spoke to the manager, she blew it off and said that’s just how it is when it gets busy. I will never be back.

Service was extremely poor. Restaurant had only a few customers yet an extended wait to be seated. It took even longer to place an order. These folks need to learn how to handle customers more efficiently. Steak & Shake in large cities put this one to shame. Food is the normal Steak & Shake fare. It was prepared as expected.

Drive up attendant got grease all over my credit card from gloves he was wearing. The probably had raw meat on them as well. My snickers shake tasted like something other than snickers. Not sure what was wrong with it but I think the ice cream was bad.

Disgusting. The food is not sanitary to eat, and it doesn’t taste good anyway. I ate here once or twice and felt like I was going to die afterwards because it’s not even real food.

Fantastic wait staff. Shakes delicious. Steak and Shake paper cars challenging to assemble, but I overcame the tiny sticker challenge with my fat fingers! Bathrooms clean too – nice scented hand soap. Great view of the dry arid Billings landscape. Mike, or Mike-ish is a delightful server, at least he laughed at all my jokes… ok courtesy laughed. I may not come back here again because I live out of state, but they promised if I did weekdays between 3−5pm, they’d give me half off on all their drinks! What a life. Come on haters, give it a break!

DONOTEATHERE!!! TERRIBLE!!! WOW!!! You cannot get seated. Hostess ignores you. Nobody seems to be willing to clear dirty tables. No sense of urgency. No smiles. Food is terrible. I had the Frisco burger and a chocolate shake. Both were horrible. I will never go back… The cook staff seemed to be working hard… The wait staff was atrocious. Choose Wendy’s or McD’s or Dairy Queen for fast burgers. Choose Red Robin for a better experience.

The prices are wrong on this Unilocal app. It advertises a 4 dollar menu but when I went there they said that did not exist. The fries are good if you like thin cut fries. I ordered a regular cheese burger. It’s just a burger, nothing special.

The burgers and shakes are really good. Probably right between Wendy’s and Red Robin in quality. But, as other reviewers have said, the service is atrocious. My husband and I waited for nearly ten minutes to be seated when there was maybe three full tables. The waitresses tend to vanish into thin air and asking for anything(refills, sauce, etc.) will get you an eye roll. The line to pay moves insanely slow. The atmosphere is pretty cold and stark. It looks like they’re trying to go classic burger drive in themed, but failed. If we go back, we’ll probably do takeout.

I travel a lot for business and always try to find a good burger. Steak n Shake was very good. Arrived around 7:00 pm. Place was packed but I was seated immediately. Server was responsive and pleasant. Ordered the original double with Fries and a soda. Will definitely go back when in Billings!

Horrible experience! We walked in on a semi crowded night, and asked for a booth. Even with three booths open, we were told no, because there was only two of us. We got stuck the middle tables right in the middle walkway. The waitress that approached was nice enough, but just enough to be noticeably fake. After sitting for a while we noticed more booths open, so again I asked the hostess to move us for comforts sake. She huffed rolled her eyes… but moved us. That is when a total loss of communication occurred. Our waitress looked me dead in the eye, seen that we had moved and she just walked away. Next we see a lady bringing out the shakes, to the old table and looking around, completely confused. I was finally able to wave her down and explained that the shakes were ours, we simply moved. I thought maybe now that three employees knew we had moved, it should be ok, wrong. Out comes the next server with the burgers, same lost in the wilderness look. I try flagging her down, she looks right at me and tells me that I need to hold on, she is busy. I just stare at her like, really??? I have to loudly say to her, those are our burgers, we just moved seats. We never saw our server again. Finally I just asked another server passing by if she could take care of us, and assured her that she would get any tips. She seemed happy to do so. She got tipped 20% for giving us a simple bit of acknowledgement, and a refill. I could understand all of this, had we just moved not telling a soul. Four employees knew we had moved, our original server knew we moved and we were simply forgotten about. It was, like I said a horrible experience. We are from the south and have been to many steak and shakes in the past, this is the first bad experience. We won’t be back. Oh, and I only wish I had thought to pull out my camera. My wife had a chicken sandwich, I kid you not there was enough chicken to cover one half of the sandwich and to have one bite on the other side. She was able to stop of the servers and ask them for a new, larger piece of chicken which they did provide. It was just ridiculously small. Retrain your staff, Billings managers!!!
