beer was good and cold… i ordered the Gambler… turned out to be a burger wrapped with Mac and cheese and a boiled egg… with a mushroom/​BBQ sauce on the side… It was DELICIOUS

We came Thursday evening, the place was packed! Food was very good. We had the cardiac arrest burger, wings and another burger with fries and onion rings. The burgers were very good, cooked well and very large for the price. Wings were great and the sauces we had were very good on them. Fries and onion rings were very good. Only 4 stars because they were so busy it took our food quite a while to come out, and it was hard to flag down a waitress to get drink refills. Our waitress was very friendly, but very busy! Overall a good place to stop on our way through Birmingham.

Ok. Middle of the line English style joint. The menu has a few good selections. Service is ok. The only other time i went the place was packed for trivia night.
Down side is trying to find a parking space with the other business’ in the shopping center.

Service was good. Our server Patricia was really sweet and dealt with our cranky baby so nicely. Beer selection was good. We ordered the nachos on tortilla chips vs the potato slices. They were really, really good. We will come back.

ABSOLUTE SHIT! 0⁄10 honestly come on. This Canadian guy wouldn’t give me a coke. Food took two hours. Don’t come here!!! The Canadian put fucking bleach in my drink!!! Ugh

Don’t waste your time! We decided to finally try blackwells since we live close by. It was just ordinary. My burger was extremely undercooked, in fact cold in the middle. My boyfriend got the wings and said they weren’t any good. It’s basically just a grease whole with not much flavor. I’d suggest going to black market if you’re looking for a crazy burger.

What a disappointment. They did absolutely nothing right. Service was terrible. Understaffed. Beer after beer that was on the menu wasn’t available. Food took forever. Reuben, a «signature» item was disgusting. It wasn’t actually a reuben but they tell you that on the menu but i saw signature and went with it anyway. Big mistake. Nasty. Patty melt wasn’t right either. Onion rings were doughee and tasted like grease. I wanted to give this place a 5. We’ve been here before and it was excellent. As it is, it will not survive. Awful experience.

It was a very busy lunch so I shall spare the lash.
I felt very sorry for the lone girl that was working the floor. This was the most woefully understaffed place I have ever seen. So this is the sympathy star… the food is where this thing falls off the rails.
Granted I was starving by the time the food arrived (+40 minutes?.. holy crap). I dug into the their signature burger while my dining partner had the Shepard’s pie. At the moment I was so hungry so I could have cared less. After a few bites it started to hit me… wow this thing was damned near raw. My partner pushed her plate away from her as she said it was pretty much floating in grease with cold spots in it.
Check please… to go box… maybe. just maybe when I need to grease pack a gas valve I might swing by for some more of that Shepard’s pie.
There isn’t much of a choice in this area for food but this place is not getting a second chance.

If I could give less than one star I would. Went to visit from out of town and bar was open. Walked and was told they could not service us because last call. Bar should and was suppose to open for another 40 minutes plus.

Been there three times. Wait staff at table could be better trained. But, decent food and atmosphere.
It’s one of the rare places in the US to have «poutine» a dish originating from northern Quebec. Not as good as the native one, but good enough for the the Deep South.
Poutine is a comfort food: French fries smothered in brown gravy and fresh cheese curds melting into the dish.

Good service IF you sit at the bar, otherwise, I’ve found it to be slow at the tables during lunch or after work in the evenings

Cons:
When a band plays it’s usually way too loud inside to even hear the person you’re sitting beside.
On more than a few occasions, the bathrooms are out of t-​paper or pretty dirty!

Been sitting here for 40 min at lunch waiting for a hamburger. Still haven’t gotten it. There are about 10 tables of patrons and one waitress. We finally got our burgers. Both were ordered medium and they were both very well done and a bit crumbling. My husband’s bun was so overtoasted it crumbled when he was trying to eat his burger. Husband said the fries were okay. Onion rings were fresh but very greasy. I think you must need beer goggles to eat here.

I absolutely love Blackwells! Every meal is outstanding, the service is fantastic, and they consistently provide a great experience. When you are in Cahaba Heights do yourself a favor and stop in for a visit!

The was my second trip to blackbeard’s after the first trip being dismal at best. Just couldn’t get waited on.
The only reason I went back was my mother wanted me to take her, cause she’s never bee. This trip was a little better. I had to go find my own napkins and silverware and get myself a beer own beer from the bar; other than that; the server took my order and delivered my food…
The meatloaf and mac and cheese was good. My mother enjoyed her lemon drop martini.
Blackbeard’s is just not that good of an overall experience.

I recently had the opportunity to try Blackwell’s with a colleague after work. We both enjoyed it! Excellent pub fare with a unique and lengthy menu! Decent beer selection that is fairly priced. The staff is courteous and friendly! Blackwell’s wouldn’t be first choice if my main goal was watching sports but they do have multiple TVs with sports on. The crowd was an interesting mix of young professionals and locals. If you’re in the area and looking for a nice neighborhood bar to grab a bite or blow off some steam, you should definitely give Blackwell’s a try!

I have been on a kick of writing reviews of some sports bars lately. So I will continue that trend. Although Blackwell’s may not consider themselves a «Sports Bar». I just throw it in a category of a place to watch sports since the have a few TV’s around a one room bar.
I have been here numerous times for convenience sake. Which is my idea of a good neighborhood pub (As they call themselves). The drink specials here are always good. And the regular prices are not bad in themselves either. They have a pretty good selection on draft too.
As for their food, I have never had a bad meal here. I have typically gone with a burger or sandwich. And they have a plethora of choices. I tend to stay away from wings unless I hear they are good. No word on that yet. So still haven’t tried them. Overall pretty good bar food.

I really enjoy this place. I’ve never had to wait for a table, and every time I’ve been, I’ve had good service. The wings and boneless fingers are really good. Great hot sauce. Good flavor and not too hot. The fries come out great every time. I’ve also gotten take out from them several times.
Other positive sportsbar attributes:
I asked them to put on an obscure college basketball game and they obliged immediately.
I think they also have NFL Sunday ticket, but not positive.
Really good beer selection.
