Still in search of good asian food. Hot and Sour soup was what I was craving. This needs to be called mushroom soup.
Not spicy, nor hot.
Asked for spicy Lo Mein, it was bland and not sure what type of lo mein noodles they are using but they were sticky/​soggy.
I was excited to see the the people working there, but then I looked at the patrons and realized they are not cooking for themselves? Still looking.

We tried Chen Express II the other day and loved it. We ended up going inside and placing a to-​go order. The place was pretty busy, so it took about 20 minutes for the food, but that wasn’t bad at all.
The interior was very clean and seemed standard for smaller Chinese restaurants. The man at the front taking orders was friendly and knowledgeable about the menu. We ended up ordering chicken lo mein, an egg roll and sweet and sour chicken. The bill was over $ 20, but there was A LOT of food. The chicken was fried very well and the portion was large. The lo mein portion was HUGE and some of the best lo mein I’ve eaten. Very flavorful. The egg roll was a bit overcooked and meh, but the rest of the meal was so good that I didn’t think much about that.
I’ll definitely be heading back to Chen Express II whenever I’m in the mood for Chinese! Can’t beat the portion size vs the cost.

Quick service and pleasant but it is very American Chinese and too sweet for me. I asked them to make my orders not so sweet but they can’t do it because the sauces they use are already sweet. Not for me :(

I tried sweet and sour chicken via take out and it was delicious. This was my first time in and I will definitely be back.
The order was ready to pick up when I got there and the guy at the counter was very friendly. He had another take out order calling in but didn’t rush as I was paying for my food. Great experience overall.

Quick service in a very clean environment. Large generous portions — we tried the sweet n sour chicken and chicken fried rice — all white meat chicken in both dishes. Golden brown deep fried chicken — didn’t have a old oily taste. Fried rice had onions, carrots and peas with egg. Food was hot, fresh and tasted good.

If you’re looking for fast delicious Chinese food, this is the place. I get sesame chicken, fried rice, egg roll, and egg drop soup every time for $ 8. They have fast service and can accommodate call ahead orders in about 10 minutes. The staff is nice and will memorize your name and order. Highly recommend!

I’m not sure what about the Chinese food here is spectacular besides that I was craving to come back here a second time. I would never want to eat here (although I’ve seen plenty of families dine in) because it’s basically one room with lots of open space, nothing that separates the cashier, your table, and the entrance, and it’s completely silent. There’s no music or anything in the background.
However, their shrimp in brown sauce and added tofu with their brown rice (an additional $ 1.00) was so delicious. My second trip was for the pork instead of the shrimp – just as good! Their portions compared to every other Chinese takeout in Birmingham are monstrous. $ 13 of food served as my dinner for 3 days and it would’ve been 4 if I didn’t force myself because I was afraid the food would spoil. No matter how much rice you take out of the box, the level never seems to decrease.
I don’t know why I liked the food here so much. I’ve never been so excited to eat leftovers.

Nothing fancy inside but clean and nice with a few tables to dine in. Take-​out is what I usually do. Food is great, large portions, fresh tasting. Takeout is packed really well and stays hot. Friendly employees. Also they use no MSG in their cooking. Open for lunch with specials M-​F.

Pretty solid Chinese takeout. Nice staff, huge portions, good prices. Nothing that jumps out at you, but definitely worth visiting to get your Chinese food fix in Cahaba Heights.
