My husband and I are just in Birmingham for the night and we’re so glad we decided to try Flip for dinner! Richard Blais should be proud of the quality food and service at his Birmingham location. Our server, Kendal, was on his game! He got us started with some local beers(Good People & Cahaba) and walked us through the menu. We started with fried okra… not your grandma’s, but equally awesome! The okra was served whole and batter dipped, think tempura, with a spicy ranch. For our burgers, I had the Lamburger and my husband went with the Oaxaca. We split a fry trio(fries, sweet potato tots, and onion rings). Way too much food, but we took one for the team. When Kendal brought our food, we shared a mind meld moment, both saying«I’m going to need at least two bites of what’s happening in front of you.» We were not disappointed. I won’t describe the burgers other than to say, read the menu descriptions and imagine the best possible outcome! You need this in your life. If Kendal is your server, you’ve got the best tour guide and your glass will never be empty!

Just experienced flip burger for the first time! Got the«stack» burger and an order of fries. I ate the whole burger and took the rest to go home with me. Mary was our server and treated us well. We were dressed like standard poor college students and she acted as if we were queens. I would recommend Mary and this flip burger boutique to anyone. Can’t wait for my next trip back.

I did not understand«burger boutique» until I came here! Richard Blais’ creations are pure genius. The Lamburger was wonderful. I don’t usually eat buns but even it was good. The meat was tender and tasty, the crowning jewel was the pickled veggies on top. My husband had the Trio of burgers and liked it also. I had Cahaba liquid Amber beer at the suggestion of the server and it was very good.

Nice server Gabbie For a burger place this place is very good Great view from the deck Good beer selection. I had the trim tab dark. Like a stout Tried the triple. RBQ, Stack, southern chicken Sweet potato tots with mushroom foam as a dip. Very light and fluffy. The RBQ was my favorite. It was great. The chicken was a little dry but still good. The stack was in the middle This was a good way to taste a selection of burgers. Would very much eat here again

Kids loved this place. They spit the trio and a order of fries. The shakes w marshmallow topping came out smoking-huge hit. My blue cheese burger was awesome.

Went here based on my son’s recommendation. It seemed a little hip for me. I was impressed with the variety of burgers. I had the empanadas for an appetizer and they were wonderful. The waiter was extremely polite and helpful. I had the bison burger, which was one of the best hamburgers I’ve ever had. I had onion rings as a side, and they were very good. I rarely give a restaurant like this four stars but this one deserves it.

The environment was very cool and trippy. My burger had salsa and avocado on it, also I ordered onion rings(get the fries I tried them and they were way better) also I had tuna crisps which was amazing. I ordered a Moscow mule with a twist it was raspberry instead of ginger do not get it because it tasted horrible. Also got a Nutella milkshake which was amazing. My bill was $ 42. Not really that cheap because your burger doesn’t come with sides. But I will say this place didn’t live up to the hype at all. Not even in my top ten best places to get a burger.

This was my first visit to their B/ham location, I’ve been to the one in Atlanta a few times and always enjoyed it. I must say this wasn’t quite as good as my past experiences, maybe I caught them on an off night? It wasn’t bad, just nothing special and not up to the expectations that my previous visits had created. If you’d looking for a great classic burger, you can do better, but if you want something adventurous it’s worth a shot.

Fancy little burger place. Love their chorizo burger! Fries, onion rings, etc. are great with multiple dips and sauces to go with them all! Nice change up to your average burger place.

Split the lamb burger with slaw. We both thought it was flavorful and properly cooked. The other items also looked interesting. This is a place we would come back to in Birmingham. Great views from the summit.

Great place! First off let me say that the view outside is just wonderful. When you walk in the artwork is amazing. We got there right before closing and they didn’t rush our service. Our server was polite! He recommended«Poutine» for those of you who haven’t been yet it is: beef fat fries, cheese curds, chorizo gravy, fried egg! May I just say YUM! After indulging myself in the Poutine I got a stack burger! It was such a great meal. The onion rings were tasty as well. I highly recommend Flip Burger.

It pains me to give Richard only two stars. I love him as a chef and this is one of his restaurant chains. But… it was just ok. Maybe even marginal. Weird combinations even I didn’t like. Always have to love the liquid nitrogen shakes though! As an update to my review, the manager sent us a gift card to give the restaurant another try. That’s great customer service!!! We will go back.

I had wanted to try this place since I first heard the concept years ago. It did not disappoint. Not one iota. I happened to be in the Birmingham area for a couple of days, and I saved Flip for last. It was the cherry on top of my sundae — or the burnt marshmallows on top of my Nutella milkshake, for those of you familiar. The atmosphere is at once hipster modern and retro, without overdoing it. The«Flip» concept is played up, as you’ll notice immediately. It’s predominantly whitewashed with splashes of color and it’s totally laid back comfortable despite appearing potentially cramped to the eye. There is a bar featuring craft draft beers and the staff is very engaging. We started with the Tuna Crisps, and they were the ideal starter. Three flat crispy wontons loaded with guacamole purée, spicy mayo, sprouts and sashimi grade tuna. Then I had the Butcher’s Cut burger with sweet potato tots and it was the best lunch I can recall having in at least a decade. My burger was angus beef with Emmi Roth bleu cheese, caramelized onions, soy truffle vinaigrette, pickled shallots and red wine jam. The flavors worked together beyond my expectations and the tots — along with the interesting whipped marshmallow butter? — had the best sweet potato flavor I could have asked for. My friend had the Lamburger with fries and hasn’t stopped raving about it since the weekend. We capped our lunches off with my aforementioned Nutella shake and my friend’s Krispy Kreme donut shake. Each was scrumptiously unique and my only regret is that we couldn’t also try the Cap’n Crunch shake. I genuinely could not recommend Flip Burger any higher. Especially as an upscale, cool lunch destination. The portions are appropriate to fuel you up for the remainder of your day without filling you up to the point of sluggishness.

Awesome burger! Loved my raw stake tartar burger. I had side of onion rings, they were delicious. I also had Nutella milk shake with a shot of Kahlua. So yum. Also great ambiance and service!!!

Not knowing if I’d be here again, I tried the Smaller, which was a trio of sliders which were the RBQ(with Pulled Pork and Slaw), Fried Chicken, and the Classic. This is a good way to try different things. I feel like I was slightly underwhelmed with the flavours. Next time, I’ll get something super fancy like the Lamburger, The Earth & Turf, or something with bleu cheese, like the Butchers Cut. Finished it up wth a Nutella Milkshake, and added some Kahlua. This had all the makings of a great shake, including flaming marshmallows on the top. It fell short for me, because the ice cream was totally liquid, and not very thick and freezing cold, like a shake normally is. I’d like to try it again super frosty. They had a great, modern interior design, and very attentive service. Definitely check it out, but get exotic!

Again this place has excellent service. I am never let down by their courteous staff and fun atmosphere. It was just a short trip today, but always one I look forward to. I had been wanting a milkshake and I just can’t go anywhere but here. I got the turtle today. The Caramel goodness with chocolate and candied pecans hit the spot. I just can’t find a place with a shake better. They have many to choose from here. The Krispy Kreme is also a great way to go if you want to indulge and have a sweet tooth. The Nutella is like a comfy night by the campfire, sweet with a bit of toasted marshmallows and hazelnut smoothness. To me there is no wrong choice here. Your always satisfied.

When the place first opened, it was great. Burgers were fresh and flavors were unique. It seems Richard Blais forgot about this restaurant because the quality has dwindled significantly. Burgers are really greasy. Buns seem old. And condiments(red onion jam was the one I had) taste like they were days old. Even the dipping sauces for the onion rings was tasteless. I was there last week at the peak of lunch hour and there were only 6 – 8 tables taken. That’s a red flag that someone’s not doing something right.

Updating my review from 2star to 4star 10/22/2015 After being contacted by the GM Shawn, who sent me a message apologizing and asking for another chance and sending a gift card to have another dining experience on them, we tried Flip again. Tonight was much better. It was a very busy night for a Thursday and they seemed a little short staffed but handled it very well. Our server was kind and attentive. Our food was all very tasty and properly prepared. I had the lamb burger and would definitely return for that again, it was very very good. My son had the classic and he enjoyed it and the special sauce that comes on it. We sampled the capn crunch shake and it did not disappoint. And we shared a trio of sides consisting of the fries, Dr. Pepper beans and the veggie of the day – tempura fried okra. The fries were ok. The beans were very good. The okra was, well interesting. It was cut longways and tempura battered, a first for me. It was best try, but personally probably wouldn’t eat it again just because my southern self enjoys the more traditional way of preparing fried okra. I’m glad Shawn reached out and comped a do-over visit. This place is a little pricy for us to eat super regularly but we will definitely come back on occasion. Original review: Having to ask repeatedly for napkins and silverware is unacceptable. The patio is quite busy tonight. But the inside is maybe at 20−30% capacity. The hostess should be seating people with napkins/silverware instead of expecting the server to handle that when patio is at 100% capacity. Also, small plates should be served with starters so that diners don’t have to lean over the center of the table to hover their mouths above the main dish. I am not a fan of being forced to listen to the TV through the sound system. I get that we are in Alabama and its football season but we asked to be seated outside to enjoy our dinner and escape football. Instead their is no music and we have to listen to ESPN. The s’mores milkshake is flavorful and yummy. Empanadas are flavorful but were barely room temperature when they arrived. Our dinner was delivered incomplete. And by the manager I believe. I had to ask for the side trio we ordered to go with our burgers. Several employees were flippant and acted annoyed when asked for things like silverware, napkins or something we actually ordered. Our server Ricky, was very sweet and polite and obviously just in the«weeds» as we called it when I waited tables. My son got the fried chicken burger. It was just right, he really liked it. I got the earth and turf. I ordered medium like I always order my burgers. Huge mistake, I don’t know what the deal with this burger was but it was the consistency of canned cat food. And was just cold mushy meat that literally just oozed all over the place. Gross. The sides were good. Fries were perfect. The tempura onion rings were great. The sweet potato tots with the marshmallow fluff foam for dipping was a neat treat. Overall the experience has been lackluster at best. We should have saved the $ 50 and stayed home and cooked something from the fridge. I doubt I will give this place another shot. I was hoping it would be like Oshi in Memphis. But it’s just not.
