Voted top 10 in the usa… by huff post and ebony… yeah. I dont take bbq advice from either of those. this is my second trip to a full moon. both times the bbq has been good… but one side has sucked and the other wasn’t that great. this time it was Mac n cheese and baked beans. baked beans tasted like they came from a can. the Mac was horrendous. douchey kid took my order and they played crappy Christian music… assaulting my ear holes with atrocious crap. not impressed. for $ 19 for a meal I expect a hell of a lot better.

Every single time I order food from Moon it is wrong. You could probably go back in the kitchen yourself to make it and it would probably still be wrong. Place was better when it was Hardee’s in the 90’s.

So I think I found something I really like here in Alabama. I was told this is one of the top ten BBQ place in the USA. It has lived up to its name! I walked In and the place was crowded. You walk up to the counter and place your order. The cashier people were very friendly and were patient and helpful when picking out food. As I stood there I can see all the food that people were ordering and to my surprise the portions were soooo big. The bake potato was big enough to feed two people. They were not shy with the meat size portions. I ordered the two meat platter and realize they had fried green tomatoes! I immediately ordered it. As I sat there waiting I was still excited to see each persons plate as they are being served to each person sitting down. I was still amazed at how tasty everything looked. I was also happy because the tables were clean and we were not sitting on some sort of bench. When I eat BBQ I’m use to places serving BBQ with a benched and rolled out paper! Which I was happy this place did not. I felt comfy eating on a nice norm table and chair. So my food finally came and I dug in. The brisket was so soft and tender. It was not dry at all. As I forked the brisket it rolled right onto my fork. Then I gave the ribs a try. That too was cooked to perfection. It was not dry like some places and it definitely was still in tact as you took the meat apart to eat it. I also tried my husbands chicken and it too was perfectly cooked. It was nice and juicy. Normally when people BBQ chicken it tends to be dry. But not here. I ended up taking food to go because my eyes are always bigger than my stomach. I left here happy ! I definitely recommend everyone try BBQ here.

Great pulled pork. Great onion rings. Fair ribs, but terrific vinegar slaw and cookies. If you want a pecking order for this area: better pulled pork than most in area. Jim n Nick’s and Johnny Rays has better ribs. No one has better vinegar slaw.

Took my son, grandson, and my wife there because of the«5 Star» web ratings. Thought I was in for a treat, but nooooo! Biggest mistake I made was trying this stuff. Portions were small, fatty, not tasty, and who puts chow chow on their pulled pork BBQ? And no Carolina-style BBQ sauce to be found. If they would have at least have had Carolina-style BBQ sauce available, it would have made the food easier going down and raised the Star Level to a two or three. We visit Birmingham once a year for a week, but I will never eat there again and I do not recommend it. Don’t waste your money at this place. Find something else to eat.

I love Full Moon! The chopped pork is smoky meat candy for the soul! The chicken is smoky, tender and yummy! The sides are average-very good depending on what you choose and what you prefer. I typically don’t like baked beans however, I like theirs very much. I personally like mayo slaw instead of the vinegar dressed they offer. They have a good selection of sides so you can find something to suit your taste buds. One major disappointment is the brisket plate I bought at the 280 location. I was expecting an explosion of smoky meat wrapped in meat bark filled with salty, smoky, moist beefy deliciousness. It didn’t happen. Bummer. It was tender but very bland and needed salt. It was missing that thick ring of meat bark – the epitome of flavor. I will stick with the smoky delights I enjoy in the pork and chicken selections. I have not tried the ribs or turkey yet. The chocolate chip cookies dipped in chocolate are heavenly and the carrot cake is awesomeness!

How do you people sleep at night giving this place less than 4 stars? This Full Moon location is fantastic OK, lets get that out of the way up front. If you’re complaining about the food or service here then you are dain bramaged, and thats all there is too it. Or you’re just spoiled living in the BBQ Capital of the Universe. I’ve been here at least 10 times, and the Cue is amazing. Whether its the pulled pork, brisket, or the ribs that are absolutely perfect, the Full Moon delivers consistently every time. The chow chow is a great twist on your pork sandwich, their sauces are spot on, and the sides and all the deserts are delicious. And yeah, occasionally there is some confusion with the kids that work here, so what… stop being a pain in the a$$ and deal with it. Its still great. And if you find yourself stuck out on 280, this is a must do. Top 5 in B’ham.

Full moon bbq. From the looks outside and the fact that there is a drive through made me kind of skeptical, but the food and service is unbeatable. They were quick and the food was amazing. I met two gentlemen that were managers and they were both very kind. I would recommend this to anyone that loves great bbq. Check it out if you are in the area it’s amazing! Thanks guys! Come build one in California.

After my fist experience here– last night– I can say I have had better BBQ in Bham. The food is overpriced for the portion they give you. Not to mention, my potato was burned to a crisp to the point I could not even bite into it. I will say that having the drive thru option is convenient.

It has been three years since we have come down south to Birmingham to visit our daughter. We were looking forward to a meal from Full Moon as we had great BBQ on previous trips. Arriving ½ hour before closing, we did drive thru and then checked into our hotel. The first thing we did was eat. I had a brisket sandwich — my wife had a brisket salad. Both were delicious. Unfortunately, we both had diarrhea the next day. Yes I know you will say it could be something else, but over the previous 48 hours, the brisket was the only thing we ate in common. A real shame because I do like their BBQ, but never again.

This was absolutely amazing. One of those meals you think about often after the fact. Hubby had the barbecue nachos and I had a bbq plate. Everything is amazing, their fried green tomatoes, Mac n cheese, and fries are so good. Not a bit of it healthy but worth every bite!

This was the best barbecue I’ve had in my life. Had the baby back ribs and the open faced pulled pork meal with extra chow chow. Mouthwatering, delicious, smothered goodness. They really hit the jackpot with the chow chow. Must visit if you’re ever in Alabama. I live in Texas and I’d drive 10 hours for another taste of their food. However they got my friends order wrong she ordered one meat and got charged extra for it but they gave her something else. They did refund her once we went back through the line

I’m a little shocked at some of the bad reviews. I have eaten at this Full Moon at least 20 times over the years when in town on business… great food and quick service every time. My customers always want to eat at this Full Moon since it’s the closest BBQ… also their all local and say it’s one of the best BBQ places in town. I must say some of the best BBQ I’ve ever had. pulled pork, ribs, sausage, and beef all very good. Only complaint is I wish they had several different flavors of BBQ sauces. They only have one red sauce and an Alabama white sauce which I can’t stomach. But BBQ is good.

I’ve eaten at quite a few Full Moons, and this one has irritated me more than any other restaurant I’ve ever been to. I live less than 5 minutes away from it, so it USED to be a regular take out option. But after the bad service, wrong orders, and exuberant wait times over and over? I haven’t been back in over 6 months. I often liked to get different things but liked the fried catfish plate. the first time I tried it, it was outstanding. Second time? Burnt, outside and dramatically undercooked inside. It was slimy and mush. Not even edible. About a month later my girlfriend ordered the catfish and it was the same ordeal. And not to mention I waited 30 minutes and called it in ahead, when I was the only person in the restaurant. I’ve given up on this full moon and will just indulge with Full Moons elsewhere like McCalla. Expect longer than usual wait times, and not the most pleasant of service. And possibly the wrong order.

bad very bad. I needed to get to a business meeting in 30 minutes so I decided to use drive thru. Three cars in front of me and took 13 minutes. Two different women dealt with my order. One took my money $ 7.43. The other brought the order and quoted $ 6.69. When I question the differing prices and whether it was actually my order, she argued and said of course it was my order. Drove to a parking place and checked my order. It was totally wrong. I took it to the Manager where he argued again. Place was very busy. I guess he didn’t want to deal with it. I got to my meeting without lunch and $ 7.43. Really, worst treatment ever.

Full moon barbeque is too good. Lord knows there should be one in Atlanta, Ga. We visited Birmingham for the Birmingham Bowl«Go Gators»… If we had one in ATL I would be there at least 4 times a week. The ribs bones were so big and mouth watering good my son could only eat 2 with a double order of fries… Of course my husband helped him finish them including his own rib plate. But surely I ate all mine and ordered a rib plate to go… Yep real fan of Full Moon Barbeque Birmingham Folks. Yessss honey yesss I will be back soon.

Best ribs(without sauce) in Alabama. Dreamland has the best sauce … Full Moon has the best actual ribs. They’re super-meaty and juicy. I tried one of their loaded potatoes before and that, too, was very good. But the ribs are phenomenal. In a perfect world, I’d pour Dreamland sauce over Full Moon ribs. Full Moon does offer a BBQ sauce, but it’s just not suited for my particular taste buds. Never take for granted a good rib joint. Now that I live in Virginia, it’s hard to find any BBQ joints that offer ribs, which makes little sense to me. Every time I go back to Alabama, Full Moon is a requirement.

Ugh. Why is it places like this act like they are all that, but when you go in customer service just sucks. Really? 3 times to get my order right? I just wanted a sandwich plate. How hard is that? Can’t seem to take money properly either. Finally manager stepped in but he can’t run a credit card either. How or more importantly why do these places continue to be in business? I waited a patiently. Never got a thank you or a have a good day. You’re in the south people. Be polite. A little sucking up when you screw up is on order. Want good BBQ? Make that great BBQ? Go to Dreamland BBQ on south side. Much better food, happy people, and great service!

I have been to this location a number of times over the years. It had been almost two years since my last visit until today. You get plenty of food. They are not stingy with the meat and the fries are freshly made. I understand the pies are really good and my wife will attest to that. I am not much of a dessert eater. The barbecue does not seem very smoky to me and is overly salted. It is tender. Fries, while fresh, are huge and thus have a lot of soft interior. I prefer fries made in the classic way. But, if you like what is commonly referred to as a steak fry, these are pretty good. Overall, I would say this place is average. I gave it a two star because I have, in fact, had so much better in Birmingham, especially at one place in particular.
