I live nearby. It is nice to have this option for extremely reliable, upscale food. Once the food arrives, you forget it is in a strip mall. Most recently I had their stuffed grouper. I’ve eaten all over the world at famous restaurants and I’ve never had better stuffed grouper. They have good martinis, gumbo, asparagus, and Greek salad. Service was timely so eating there on a work night is feasible.

Four at our table. Crab cake sandwich, seafood pasta, chicken saltimbocca, and snapper w/pecan fried shrimp. All the dishes were spot on! We were seated immediately(Thursday 6:30 p.m.). Our waitress was at our table a minute or two after we arrived and was AWESOME throughout service. Start to finish, dinner was about an hour. I read several reviews about Mikey’s before we went, not too many were positive. We will absolutely be back, several other menu items are calling…

AWFUL! Waited an hr with a reservation. Horrible service! Kitchen/Server lost our order when we finally received our meals the food was poorly prepared and cold as if it had sat in the kitchen for a very long time v/s being served. The food quality was poor as well. There is not one positive thing I can say about this restaurant experience. Finally my wife and I left and grabbed a burger on the way home. Horrible experience all around. I would not reccommend this restaurant to anyonone.

Stop in last night for my usual late night desert. The famous bread pudding is one of a kind. They really make this desert worth the drive.

Grateful to find a last minute reservation online for our party of four on a Saturday night and so glad we gave it a try, despite the mixed reviews. We were seated right away and immediately provided water and rolls. Our server, Christy, was wonderful! She expertly accommodated our desire for a leisurely meal, keeping us plied with cocktails and appetizers until our entrees were served. The menu is not super inventive or extensive, but the house made sauces set them apart from chain restaurants with similar steak and seafood fare. We had a mixture of both surf and turf at the table, and everyone was pleased with their dish. Would absolutely return!

I wanted to write a stellar review because the owners are so nice! That being said, business is business and I trust in honest reviews when choosing where I spend my dining dollars. Mikey’s is overrated and expensive, really expensive. Yes, I had the raved about snapper encrusted in macadamia nuts. The fish was overdone, almost mushy, with nothing and I mean nothing else on the plate but a piece of fish and an orange slice. It did include an uninspired house salad of iceberg lettuce, grape tomatoes and sliced cucumbers with bottle dressing. No where near worth the price of the plate. Ambience is… well strip mall with dated Christmas lights to give the impression that there is ambience when in reality there is none. For two people to spend over $ 100 for dinner, I expect more than a mushy piece of fish on a plate in some sauce. And do not order the seafood platter, go to Red Lobster and get the same thing or better for $ 12.99.

Went for my 4 or 5th time average ticket 20 to 30 dollars was very happy. Always tip well I worked at resteraunt and no that Is how waiters make their money. Recommended and took my plumbing helper to let him try ultimate cheeseburger had ordered evrytime love It. and ask just to split cheesburger with 2 orders of fries and drinks two go with it. The waitress emily after placing order came back and told she had to add 5 dollar charge to split cheesburger. Thought was odd my helper was cook at seaons 52 nice resteraunt he said he had never heard of that. this kinda pissed me off enough that I may never return simply over 5 dollars.

Tried this place with some friends last Saturday. The food was as good as could be. They were kind of busy, and the place was noisier than I expected, but man, the food was excellent. I had the macadamia-crusted snapper; my wife had the filet and crabcake and both were excellent. The deserts were excellent as well. Definitely recommended.

Went to Mikey’s tonight for the first time thanks to a Groupon offering. First impressions not great, as this restaurant is located in a nondescript strip mall. Second impressions very poor. We were seated for over 20 minutes before we got our drinks, and it was almost 45 minutes before we received our bread and salads. However, the food made a much different impression. I had the grouper Oscar, which was sautéed perfectly and topped with lump crab and the best hollandaise I remember. Absolutely delectable! And the bread pudding! It was to die for, with a brandy sauce that tasted like a mix between pralines and heaven. The food makes this a solid 4 to 4.5 stars, but the service was really poor, which took away from the whole experience. I observed our server waiting on at least 8 tables, and this is an issue of poor management. If we weren’t using a groupon, I’d be very disappointed to pay these prices and have anything less than attentive service.

We went for the first time a few nights ago. I had heard terrific things about Mikey’s Grill and for most part it didn’t disappoint. My husband ordered the chicken saltimbocca and asparagus with balsamic glaze. I took a small bite of both and was not disappointed. The chicken saltimbocca while a bit rich(perfect for a splurge though) had wonderful flavor with the prosciutto and mushroom in the Marsala cheese sauce. I decided to keep it fairly simple and ordered a cup of gumbo(delicious!), small Greek salad and crab cake. The crab cake, which s what Mikey’s is known for was HEAVENLY. Absolutely five stars! Now here’s my negatives — my Greek salad left something to be desired. It was like balsamic vinegar soup with lettuce thrown in. It would have been better if there hadn’t been so much and so overwhelming. The other thing was our server. He was friendly but he wasn’t as attentive as you would expect. It took a long time to order and then you wouldn’t see him for a while. With that said, overall the meal was wonderful and we would definitely go back.

I have been eating at Mikey’s since they opened. I am a banker and frequently entertain Real Estate connections there. Anyone I have taken there has made it their new favorite place. The food is impeccable and delightful. Nice wine list. Great outdorr seating if you want to sit outside and listen to a little jazz. Nice place.

I dined here for lunch last week. I started with a Greek salad, and thought it was very good. I had the blacken talapia, and would recommend. Fresh filet served on creole sauce and topped with fried crawfish tails. Nice combination with a good flavor. Check out my picture. Our table also shared the fried crab claws and alligator appetizers. I didn’t care for either. The batter on the crab claws was too corn mealy for me. The batter on the gator didn’t seem right either. The dinner menu seemed pricy with most entrees between $ 25-$ 30.

My evening here started off with a two+ hour wait. Long yes, but that is all okay if the food is worth it. I suppose they tried their best to make amends. They comped the first round of drinks… comped apps probably would’ve been better as some in our party had already spent over 150 dollars in drinks. I appreciate this gesture and had the food been okay, 4.5 or so stars would have been appropriate. That being said, where do I even start on the food? Having spent alot of time in and around the big easy, I might be a bit biased, but the food I was served seriously had me doubting that the chef had ever been to New Orleans. I decided to stick to the basics because well I didn’t want to take a risk on a 25 dollar entrée. Unfortunately, I was right. The shrimp po boy… The shrimp came out soggy and the batter fell right off. Big no-no for good po boys. Friggin pure cocktail sauce with horse radish? It all tasted like someone was mad at my mouth. The crabcake sandwich… Tasted like a 15 dollar filet o fish from Mcdonalds. Tons of mayo here but none on the po boy? The gumbo… Nope try again and this time please add some salt. Fried okra was fine. Fried chips were fine but salty. But then again, you can’t really mess these up right? Overall, pretty bad food for unfriendly prices. Lower em or step it up. There is def better, more affordable cajun, creole to be had in Birmingham. 2 Stars for effort. 1 Star for the food.

What a little gem of place inside a shopping center! I was looking for a semi-quiet, nice, yet not-too-formal place where one could relax and talk without shouting. The online menu piqued my interest as half of my family is from New Orleans and I therefore immediately noticed the array of authentic Cajun dishes offered and the unabashed display of the Fleur de Lis all over the website and menu. I was out of town on business, decided to stay the weekend and wanted a taste of something close to home. The food lived up to my expectations, Mikey’s food proves that he’s a real Cajun! We had an appetizer that was amazing, I don’t remember what it was called, but it was a skinned green tomato filled with a sauce, crab, crawfish, and andoulle sausage? I wanted to eat just that for dinner. My entrée was a perfectly cooked and dressed grouper. Loved it, great environment, great food, small and intimate without being too quiet.

After reading Melissa’s comments, I found her comments to be defensive but we were hopeful we just visited on a bad night based on other positive reviews. And the food was good, so we went back 11⁄16. The food was again very good but I still feel the pricing is out of line for what you get. As Melissa pointed out, the dinners do come with a salad, and are twice the portion of the lunch entrée, but do not come with a side dish. So chicken Saltimbocca, with a salad, and a side of new potatoes will run you about $ 22 for a dinner portion. The restaurant was not as chaotic as our first visit, but we also didn’t spend any time waiting for a table or visit the bar. I wish we’d ask to sit in Christy’s section again. The experience would have been 4 star. I quickly realized my oversight. Our server was a younger African American gentleman. He arrived at our table about 10 minutes after I was seated and didn’t greet me so I am not sure of his name. He asked if I was waiting for someone else. A «Hello my name is ___________. How are you this evening? Have you dined with us before?» or something along those lines would have been a better choice. I ordered a beer and it arrived promptly. My husband arrived shortly after me and ordered a beer and it was 15 minutes before it arrived. However, when it did finally arrive, we were pleasantly surprised to see it was actually served in the corresponding branded glass. That’s rare in Birmingham. We started with the Greek salad again. It was good but way way way overdressed this time. Order the dressing on the side and this should prevent this problem. As I said before, the bread is delicious. We waited and waited for our salad and then finally asked for bread when the salad arrived. Our server told us it was in the oven. OK. Then we saw the other tables around us receive bread. 10 minutes later, we finally received some bread as our meal arrived. Another complaint is again service related. A table arriving after us, sitting in Christy’s section, received food and drinks before us and left at least 20 minutes before us. On the positive side, I did want to mention the male server assistant with the beard and long hair. He assisted Christy during our last visit and our server this time and both times he was very attentive. I kind of wish he had been our server. Also of note are the potato chips. I ate 75% of my husband’s. I am not normally a potato chip eater but these are delicious. I think I like them because they actually taste like a potato. A potato chip that taste’s like a potato? WOW! Imagine that. They are clearly house made. My husband had a burger and pronounced it «pretty good». He’s a hamburger connoisseur so receiving this praise is a high compliment. His only complaint was that the server did not ask how he would like it cooked and we forgot to specify so it arrived medium well. I also happened to see the child’s chicken fingers at the table next to ours and they looked delicious. This time, we ordered a piece of pumpkin cheesecake to go. It was very good but teeny tiny, again. $ 6.50 for the dessert is way overpriced. Overall, the food was still good but the service was sub-par this time. Save your money and don’t order dessert. I also recommend ordering the lunch portion, as it is very large. If you go, ask to sit with Christy. She’ll take good care of you.

My first time here, I assumed this place would just have a regular assortment of burgers and steaks and typical«grill» food. I guess I’ve been living under a rock because this place is anything but a typical grill place. My first time here, and I went for lunch. Not very crowded, which is a huge bonus for me, and our waitress was very attentive to our needs without suffocating us. I ordered a hamburger because I wasn’t feeling too adventurous, but their appetizers and pasta entrees make me want to come back for a special occasion. They bring you warm garlic bread while you wait on your food, which took all of 12 to 15 minutes to get out to us. They have lots of desserts to choose from – crème brûlée and white chocolate raspberry truffle cheesecake, bread pudding, deep dish apple pie – which our waitress said was made fresh every day. Also can I just say how much I appreciate a place that makes their own chips? Because when I saw«sweet potato chips» I expected something right out of a wholesale bag, and it made me wish it said«sweet potato fries» instead. Nope. The homemade chips alone are enough of a reason to eat here. Definitely try this place out if you’re a fan of pasta, seafood, and Cajun cuisine. They have a full bar, too. This place is ideal for a small family get together, a romantic rendezvous, or a classy ladies’ night.

The atmosphere was pleasant although it needs a little more artistic approach. The food was excellent. I had the special which was Soft shell crab. They did allow us to change the menu since they did not have a surf and turf for my husband. They also allowed me to have one soft shell crab with a steak instead of two soft shell crabs. The steak was cooked perfect to request. It was a very small steak however. They needed to put a little more love into the salad. It was presented like out of a bag. Effort to cut cucumbers and tomatoes and break salad so that a person does not have to cut it up and knock it all over the table trying to do so would be better. I give area 41 pizza the pest salad presentation. The food was pricy and all sides are ala-carte, which I am not a fan of.. This makes a $ 31 steak much more expensive after you add any sides such as salad or potato. It was delicious, but not a place I would return to often due to the high prices. It is a great place for special occasions however. The wait staff was very professional and accommodating. The atmosphere did give a private and or intimate setting for your dining pleasure.
