Absolutely the worst steak I’ve ever tried. The only part of my meal that was a proper temperature was the salad. Everything else was about the same temperature, cold.

Interesting to read the bad reviews. Yes there should be high expectations for a high end steak house but I wonder if the expectations are unrealistic for some. You do have to pay for what you get but in my three visits it has been worth it all three times. Perfectly cooked prime steaks. Sides like asparagus, Potato Gratin and Crab Mac and Cheese. Outstanding. Lava cake for dessert. Wonderfully decadent. It’s a white table restaurant and a white table experience.

Read many reviews before going, but we took the risk. It mostly paid off! Meal was good, but very pricey. Don’t be in a hurry! Staff was good, but manager walked around our table and never even spoke to us! Apps came out in normal amount of time, but had to wait a while for dinner. It appeared that most of the table were waiting too which might have been the reason for the hold up.

We read the bad reviews but decided to risk it. We regret that decision, as the reviews are spot on. My family lives in different states. Alabama, Texas, Mississippi, Ohio. We are rarely all together and went for a big nice dinner all together to celebrate. My dad was paying and wanted to take his whole family out. We expected to pay big bucks for some good food. This did not happen. The service is five stars. Our server tonight(December 28th) was Chris. He was personable, professional, affable, like able and knowledgable. We loved Chris. And the two fellows who helped him Wish I knew their names. They were great. Top notch. So why the two stars? This place has a kitchen problem. And probably a management problem. First, they were GREAT about my shrimp allergy. So good. I actually attribute that to my servers. The bread is outstanding. Out of this world. The wine list is great and has good prices. So how did things go wrong? Appetizer steak medallions were terrible. I couldn’t eat mine. Charred on a dirty grill. Entrees took almost 90 minutes to arrive. Almost an hour into waiting the kitchen finally told our server that my sister in law’s lobster was out. So she had no entrée. The steaks were all over the place. One was great. One was sent back for a refund because it was so charred it wasn’t edible. Mine was so salty I was dying of thirst. I’m swollen today. The scallops were great. The bread was flawless. The sides were adequate. I’ll say it again. There’s a problem in the kitchen and probably an issue with management. Overall we spent over a thousand dollars on a really mediocre, unimpressive meal. I’m kind of upset about it. Dad blew a thousand bucks on crappy food. Shula’s, step it up!

Went for my birthday with the buy one get one coupon. I had the 24 ounce porterhouse and my wife had three 12 ounce filet. My porterhouse was cooked to a medium rare. Very tender. The«filet» side suffered from being slightly overcooked but this is nearly always the case with a porterhouse. My wife’s filet was cooked to medium well as she desired. But the thickness of the filet left the center at barely a medium well. The filet was like butter and melted in the mouth. For a side I had a shrimp cocktail. While good, the price was steep for the portion. My wife ordered the truffle fries. This was the only major misstep of the night. The fries were a severe disappointment. I love truffle fries and have had them many times. These were thick cut, mushy, and had a great taste. For dessert we were given a Chocolate Lava Cake. Yummy! All in all I had an enjoyable time. I would definitely recommend Shulas if you want a great steak. Just avoid the fries.

For a chain restaurant I was pretty impressed. The barbecue shrimp appetizer is amazing and was my favorite dish. Steak tip appetizers were a little too dry but flavor was good. crab cakes were just a wee bit too fishy tasting. Wild mushroom ravioli was pretty good and fresh tasting. I came for a wedding reception but I can understand the food may not be worth the money. There are more delicious things to eat in bham that are a better bang for your buck :)

Me and my wife ate there again this past Saturday night. We had the crab cake which was good considering we were in Birmingham and not anywhere they can have access to fresh crab like at the beach. I had the New York strip which was cooked rarer then I had asked for. My wife had the 8oz filet it was cooked they way she liked and both steaks did taste good. We had a chocolate lava cake for desert that was burnt. The outside was very hard. The bread and good the service was good. One thing that did bother me was that we are in Alabama and they didn’t serve sweet tea.

I don’t know why it’s in ten best of Birmingham. Terribly expensive and steak had no flavor. Sides were not good either such a disappointment

Ordered strip steak for a late lunch. The asparagus was perfect but the steak was medium-well instead of rare. Bartender took it back and got me a very rare steak and topped off my wine to make up for it. It was a good value for lunch.

Not worth the visit. We ordered 6 different sandwiches and meals and had issues with all of them. The club was the only one good but cold. Much better places to go in the area. Not again. Our second bad meal here.

Very disappointed. I was not very hungry, so I ordered French onion soup. Good portion, the cheese was melted but the soup was warm at best. Bartenders favorite and suggestion. Run!

We recently dined here for a special celebration. I can’t begin to tell you what a disappointment it was. We were a party of 12. 5 of our meals went back because they were served COLD. cold crab cakes. Cold steak. Sides were cold. Cold crab mac n cheese? Condiments weren’t served after being asked for twice or three times. Drinks, the same story. Empty cocktail glasses. Empty tea glasses. Oh, and the molten lava cake? Not so molten. You guessed it, cold. The managers idea of a solution, give us ONEMEAL on the house. Oh thanks so much for your kind offer. She should have begged us to come back for another chance because I can promise you this, we won’t.

TERRIBLE experience. We booked a table for a group of 14, and planned to drop about $ 2K on some 5 star food. Seated in the back room, however, it became clear that only one waiter had been assigned to our party. The appetizers trickled in at a very slow pace. When his appetizer failed to show up, our main dude, who picks up the check, was told that the restaurant ran out of shrimp. Slightly bummed, we proceeded to wait 2.5 hrs until our main courses arrived. Our main dude did not get his steak, and sat around staring at his phone as everyone else dug in. When the steak arrived, it was a cold, bloody mess. I saw a bus boy ONCE during the entire evening. Our guys began to get up and pour themselves water. I should mention that the restaurant was practically EMPTY, aside from 2 or 3 tables with couples. When no apologies or explanations were offered, we finally began to complain. Loudly. After I paid a visit to the kitchen asking for the manager, I finally was heard and told they were short staffed. Rather then mentioning to us that the restaurant was not equipped to serve us, the management chose in stead to ruin our evening with shitty service. In the end we got 30% of the bill comped, but that’s beside the point. We were not looking for a free meal, or a discount. We came to feast on some top notch food and service, and got ignored and shunned in some backroom. Do not go here.

I was traveling by myself and wanted a nice dinner. When I went to Shula’s no host or hostess greeted me, I had to track down a server in order to be seated. They have a tomato mozzarella salad with chopped lettuce and tomatoes, unfortunately it was drowned in the balsamic vinaigrette, I could not finish it. I made it a point to ask my server for their definition of a steak with a warm pink center and he said medium, but mine came out too rare. My entrée took 45 minutes to come out and the filet mignon was not cooked enough. After sending it back it still was not cooked enough, however, after waiting so long to be served I didn’t send it back again I just cut out the middle and ate the rest. On top of all of this my veggies were not very good either, my sautéed spinach was too salty and the baked potato was not cooked all the way through. The server was nice but this resturant needs a chef, not a cook. Restaurants: PLEASE stop hiding your bad cooking with salt! If I want it salted I can do it myself at the table.

We just popped in here for drinks, but I thought this place was perfect for a hotel bar. Dim lighting, dark wood, strong drinks and helpful servers. Since I didn’t have any food, I’m not sure I should review the place, but I felt like it was worth speaking up! The bartenders were very helpful, and to their credit really did due diligence with our IDs. They really checked them closely! But strong drinks came quickly, and they checked on us just the right amount. Maybe they liked us because we were polite and quiet, in stark contrast to some other, more rowdy customers elsewhere at the bar! In any case, I enjoyed my boozy visit to Shula’s.

First time here. Cowboy Ribeye was good. I did order it medium and it was slightly overlooked(medium well). Grilled asparagus was great. Kinda overpriced, but nice ambience.

My husband and I traveled in from Atlanta. We were just staying the night. I would have to say that the server and the wine were the best parts of the dinner. We ordered lobster bisque. It was runny and had very little lobster. Hal’ is Atlanta trumps this lobster bisque a thousand times. I was not super hungry so I ordered the lump crab cake. Not sure where the lump in the description came from. It was like a fried crab cake from Applebee’s. Lots of bread. My husbands steak was ok. Cooked correctly, but over buttered. For the price we paid the food should have been great, but it was a huge disappointment. Go somewhere else! Don’t waste your money!

Honestly, for the class of restaurant that Shula’s proclaims to be, it can only receive 2 stars. We’re not comparing to Outback or Logan’s here, but to Ruth’s, Flemings, Bern’s, etc. I appreciate that Shula’s was open for Thanksgiving, and it was an enjoyable meal. The Pre-fixe brunch menu was reasonably priced. Our servers were attentive, but forgetful. Our appetizer order never arrived. I didn’t see the bill and hope it wasn’t included. Cold was the theme of the day. Cold coffee, cold potatoes, undercooked steaks. Lucky for me, my wife’s medium filet was delivered medium rare — so I finished it off for her. Otherwise, the molten lava cake and apple cobbler desserts were very good and more than we could finish.

Great wine list by the glass. Food is really good too. A bit more expensive than most stek houses. I took points off for stale bread, I ate on Sunday and I assume the bread came in on Friday. Personally, I’d rather not have bread than get stale bread heated up to hide the staleness

Go to Shula’s for a fine dining steak meal in Birmingham. I still think Flemings is all around better but Shulas comes close behind. My favorite meal here is to start wiith the Crab cakes, the wedge salad, 12oz filet cooked medium with the creamed spinach side. The side dishes are definitely large enough to share, so if there are two people dining I would order 2 if there are 3 people order 3, etc… I usually don’t eat dessert anywhere, BUT here it is so good. If you are still hungry and have a sweet tooth by the end of the meal order the molten chocolate lava cake or the crème brûlée. Very classy, upscale décor located inside The Wynfrey Hotel. Can be a great date night, special occasion dinner or nice business meeting. You can park in the hotels garage and get your parking ticket validated.
