Never stayed here but made a reservation months in advance that I canceled months in advance and still got charged for BOTH nights. After repeated phone calls was told there was nothing they could do about it. I would look elsewhere… if you need to make a change you will be in trouble.

Great B&B in Bishop. My wife needed to come down in altitude from Mammoth. The altitude seems to affect her so we decided to stay here for a while after 4 days in Mammoth. The service was great, rooms and décor were tasteful but not overdone. My wife enjoyed herself very much. They even catered to her gluten free diet. Miriam and staff was very attentive. Very recommended!

My husband surprised me with a night at the Joseph House Inn… and we had no idea of great it was going to be. We arrived after a long drive up from the LA area (trying to make it in time for pie at Rock Creek Lodge (see my review!). We checked in and immediately loved the place. The owners (lovely ladies!!) rescued this place when it had been abandoned and their hard work paid off. It’s a great property, behind the house the grounds go back and are filled with lush grass, sitting areas, beautiful trees, a small creek… and a pond with frogs.
The beds are very comfortable and the breakfast was really good. Breakfast (in the warm months) is held out on the terrace and featured some of the best french toast I’ve ever had. The ladies were very friendly, welcoming and gracious — and we can be fairly picky. They do have air conditioning… it was running when we got there, it does get turned off at night, but the nights are very cool in Bishop and we had no problems. Apparently, Hilde had several restaurants in Mammoth years ago — so she knows everyone — she had us say hello to Sue at Rock Creek. It’s centrally located and within walking distance to a wide range of restaurants for dinner.

What can I say other than it was a great experience!
Clean rooms, GREAT food, wonderful other guests…
Oh — and the grounds are idyllic… a small creek, large mature trees, lush grass… it is like an oasis in Bishop.
Amazingly close to several attractions (the park, bakery, and a starbuck$), park the car and walk around.
The hostess has great stories about the area and the interesting people there… Great fun!

Arrived in Bishop at 8 pm; final destination Tahoe; in need of sleep… so, Unilocaled Motels and discovered this sanctuary. Miriam welcomed me and now I am relaxing with a fine glass of Merlot, listening to a symphony of bull frogs, and wind rustling the trees. Can’t wait to discover all the nooks and crannies Joseph House Inn has to offer in the morrow. I am thinking I’ll stop in again on my way back to OC, that is if they have a room! AND… Can’t wait to share this place with Husby!

We felt welcome from the moment we walked in. Hilde showed us our room and beautiful grounds and we sat for a relaxing chat with a glass of wine. She made us a reservation at a local restaurant where they had great food and service. Our room was as charming as the rest of the house and after dinner we sat in the garden with another couple and enjoyed the breeze and conversation. No need for air conditioning as the rooms have large windows and sliding doors and there is a large ceiling fan. The king bed was comfortable and the sheets of high quality. Breakfast was fabulous with breads and fruit and a wonderful spinach and sun-​dried tomato omelet. Myriam was the chef and offered great service along with Hilde. My only disappointment was that we could not stay longer, but for sure we will return soon.

I wish I could’ve loved this place. Bed was comfy and the place is stunningly gorgeous with a huge backyard. Breakfast was amazing and I was served stuffed french toast — the BEST French toast I’ve ever had too. The ladies that own and operate Joseph House know exactly what they’re doing.
However, the main thing preventing me from giving 5 stars is that I never felt all that comfortable. I was given rules (which were repeated three times), and felt a bit awkward like I was kinda welcome, but not trusted. It was weird. I usually stay in B&Bs when I travel alone (I know it’s sexist but a woman traveling alone feels a bit safer in places like this) and most of the times I end up chatting with the owner like were old friends. I’m a nice person and super clean and organized. Maybe arriving in my hiking clothes was the turn off??? They were cordial, but just not welcoming. Also, there is no AC — which is okay normally — but I was in a separate room, tucked away in the house, and the breeze from outside was blocked by the rest of the house and the trees. Lastly, I was quoted $ 150 over the phone but charged $ 170. I didn’t even feel like bringing it up because I just wanted to leave.
I would really like to come back here, but unfortunately, I won’t.

After having stayed at an unsavory location in Bishop, I quickly went searching for a decent place to stay for my next visit, before I left. I found Joseph House Inn on my phone and called to ask if I could look at the B & B. The woman on the line was very friendly and when my husband and I got there she gave us a tour. While we haven’t stayed there yet, I can safely say that this will be my next location to stay at while visiting Bishop. The rooms were clean and decorated nicely and the grounds were beautiful.

My husband & I spent a fantastic evening here on 11÷24÷12. We had originally reserved the purple room for our stay. When we arrived we were told that the other couple that was scheduled for the evening had cancelled & that we were going to be upgraded! (queen to king bed) Awesome! We were now in the «Green Room». What a fantastic room; a king size bed, lots of room to move around & a large bathroom that looked original to the house. In a day where new-​slick-​shiny-​metal-​stone are seen as best, this place was so comfortable, homey and sweet. Joseph House is decorated perfectly & sweetly with big comfy chairs & little nooks that just beg for you to curl up with a book & enjoy the fireplace or gaze out the huge windows onto the beautiful gardens.
So the house is great & we are totally enjoying everything… then breakfast! Holy Moly. Hilde was our chef & she made us French toast with cream cheese filling & strawberry topping. It was probably one of the best breakfasts we have ever had!
I can not say enough about Joseph house. Bishop is not exactly a place we go often, but with a gem like Joseph house we may be heading that way more frequently! There are so many cool National Parks in the area, and you always need a nice place to stay after a hard day of hiking & sightseeing.

I recently stayed here for 4 nights and it was a great experience. I had read the great reviews in several different places and after visiting Bishop several times I decided it was time to stay at the Joseph House. Myriam and Hilde were wonderful and made me feel at home during my visit. The breakfast, as others have noted, was excellent and they took care of my diet requirements. The wine at the end of the day was also a welcomed pleasure at the end of my busy days.

My husband and I had a wonderful 2-​night stay here at the Joseph House Inn. This place is definitely a hidden gem in a town filled with a bunch of motels off the main highway.
Miriam was a wonderful host who cooked up a delicious breakfast for us every morning. We had fresh juice, some homemade bread and her omelettes were delicious. If you are looking for a place to stay that is comfortable, cozy and makes you feel like one of the fam… definitely go here!
Just a small tip… I think they limit the wi-​fi here and turn it off around 9 – 10 p.m. and cell phone reception isn’t the greatest as well.

We had a wonderful 6-​night stay.
Myriam, Hilde and Max are such fantastic hosts, and make this B&B one of the best places we’ve ever visited.
The breakfasts are wonderful, the grounds are superlative and the accommodations /​amenities are fantastic.
We stayed in the suite and it was just perfect. Quiet, comfortable and simply wonderful.
We can’t wait to return! Thanks so much for the exceptional stay!

This place was wonderful. In a town full of hotels and motels, this B & B is a real find. It has a pretty garden with ducks that come in the morning. It is cute and homey, very relaxing from the moment you get there. The staff is warm and friendly. Myriam recommended great places to eat and great hikes to try. They know the area well and they also know how to make you feel special. We will be going back for sure!

I would never have found Joseph House Inn without Unilocal and its army of volunteer researchers. Yes, it is as good as all the other reviews state: clean, modern, pleasant, wonderful, and a slice of Eden in the last place you might expect such. If you travel down Hwy 395, then it is a must place to stop and visit. Max and Hilde are truly the most charming people, and Myriam makes the place run like clock work. Today’s breakfast was French Toast, 2 slices, with a strawberry/​blueberry cream laced in between the two thick slices, garnished with whip cream, and fresh fruits. Coffee, and juices on the patio made it a fabulous setting.

WOW, we had a fabulous stay @ Joseph House Inn on Aug 7, 10. On our way back from Tahoe and wanted to rest up and relax. Owners were super sweet and helpful. We met such nice people who were also staying there. One of the couple’s told us they’d stayed there numerous times and keep going back! :) We will return gladly!

Such a cute and well maintained inn. The owner’s are very friendly and helpful. Breakfast was excellent. The backyard is beautiful with a pond and ducks. Very relaxing and peaceful.

Joseph House is a little treasure hidden in Bishop.
The grounds are beautiful green grass with a system of small moats snaking everywhere and sometimes emptying into a little pond. The moats are there as much for the flock of ducks as they are to irrigate and cool the area. The owners are sweet and eager to help make your stay pleasant. The food is delicious. What more can I say? If I ever stay near Bishop, I’m headed to Joseph House.
