This is how to run a small town business. I was looking to buy a rifle in Bishop. I tried another popular store in town, but being a female with very little knowledge about firearms(other than an M16A2) was blown off by the owner. Irritated, I marched over to Mac’s. The two gentlemen working there were friendly, extremely patient and helpful. They took the time to discuss my preferences and options. The prices are reasonable and competative. The merchandice is well-organized. After the sale, Dale(I think was his name) offered me some of his homemade deer jerky, which was fantastic, btw. Superb customer service. Mac’s just gained another lifelong customer.

I should have wrote this long ago… nicest place in town for hunting n fishing gear and advice, as well as a competent gunsmith. While living in Mammoth for 9-years, the word up there was«Go to Macs» if you needed anything firearms related. There are good fishing outlets up in Mammoth Lakes, with Macs having a better handle on the Owens Valley south of Rock Creek, and more down-south pricing than resort pricing. Stay honest and customer-oriented Macs, as you earned your five-stars from me with that attitude and service!

Friendliest fishing supply store in town! Even our dog gives them a paw up! They are very helpful and just make it a great start to a day of fishing.

Stopped by to get a few flies and fresh leaders for a trip into the high country. Also picked up a packable fly rod, which happened to break on its second use. Stopped in again upon our return and Dale was happy to send the rod back for me, receive the replacement, and promptly ship it to my home address in Arizona. This is the sort of customer service that not only engenders repeat patronage, but priceless word of mouth advertising. Keep it up boys! Thanks Dale!

This is the second place to get your fishing supplies! The staff is friendly, but what separates them from others is that they also have an excellent assortment of flies(for fly fishing.) Yes, the guns and ammo are readily available, too, but for a small store, the fishing supplies are organized and fairly well priced. Mac’s is located in the middle of town, next to my favorite breakfast place, off the 395 near Line Street. A great place to stop by when heading to Lake Sabrina, South Lake, or my favorite, Intake 2! Support the local business that provide year round trout fishing via the chamber of commerce. Get your supplies here rather than your family store killers i.e. Wallmart, please. Most of all, enjoy the stores in town and the excellent fishing(nothing better than a nice sized brownie!)

The guys /staff in here offer some of the best service a sports store can offer. Its not a huge store, but they are packed with gear. They even carry cast iron dutch ovens. I didn’t have a budget for that, but I did buy fish bait & a pocket knife from them just cause I figured its good kharma. Plus, one of the guys mentioned the particular brand I bought has a life-time guarantee — something I didn’t have to pay for(are you reading this, Circuit City?) I’m not sure what it is about the huntsman«personality» — but I sure wish there were more salespeople in OC&LA like the staff at Mac’s.

We hit up this place for some fishing gear and bait on the way to Lake Sabrina. I have to say it’s THE best place I’ve been to for fishing supplies. They also have quite an arsenal of hunting gear as well, decked out with different animal heads on their walls. What stood out the most is that the shop is clean, sharp and well-organized, both in product and service. Plenty of great expert advice, plump crickets, juicy worms, all led to some excellent fishing.
