Great hot dogs wrapped in bacon. Very nice guy! My husband had the philly cheese dog and said it was best ever of any hot dog! And he’s eaten a lot of hotdogs. I did the Rudy dog! Fabulous!!!

I tried Mad Dogs for the first time since moving to Bishop a year ago. I can’t believe I’ve been driving by this gem all this time! I broke the ice by ordering the Hawaiian Dog and got so much more in return! Rudy is so friendly and cheerful, both he and the dog put a huge smile on my face. I’ll be back to try them all!

Manuel(truck owner)… no puede ser! Headed out to Mammoth for a little vacation with the family and decided to stop in Bishop for some grub. My eldest son is a nut for hot dogs and happened to notice a small gourmet food truck(we used to call them a roach coach). You would think that I would have learned my lesson by now and not simply agree to some new food experience because there are a line of robots waiting to be poisoned but of course I was once again suckered into stopping. Now please don’t get me wrong I support my Latino brothers and their great food and hard work but man o man the food here is way too salty and greasy. Yes even for me the food at this heart attack on wheels is just … well not bueno!

Rudy has the best Tacos I have ever had. He is accommodating, pleasant, understands customer service and genuine. I strongly recommend stopping by his truck.

We came into town after a long drive and were hungry so after checking in to our hotel we decided to take a walk down Main Street to see what this town had. After walking several blocks and passing several restaurants and not feeling impressed we suddenly smelled something very good. While crossing the street my friend noticed where it was coming from and noticed the food truck. We walked over to look at the menu and were greeted right away and when Rudy came over and started talking to us you got the feeling immediately that with his passion anything you ordered would be fabulous and you couldn’t go wrong. I saw a lot of meat happening on the menu so was getting worried but then I saw the veggie burrito and asked if I could get no mushrooms and Rudy’s reply was you can have it however you like! So I said throw in all the veggies you have and we like it spicy so he offered to throw a serrano in there too, which I accepted gladly. He gave me every veggie he had on the truck in my burrito and it was one of the best I have had. I loved that the beans were actual beans and not the refried filler you usually get in a burrito. My specialty burrito even included bean sprouts, broccoli, red, green & yellow bell peppers, onions, beans, cheese, sour cream, serrano peppers and possibly more good stuff but that’s what I was able to detect while I scarfed ½ of it down. Oh yeah it was HUGE so I now have ½ for lunch in the desert tomorrow! Great prices and more than great food, we sat on a bench and ate our dinner and Rudy even came across the street to check on us to see how everything tasted. He really has passion for his food and it shows. If you are coming through town find his truck and chow down on his amazing food. He was on the corner of Main and Church on a Friday night and he told us he is between the banks at lunchtime. Rudy you rock! I’ll be coming to find you next time I’m in town for sure.

I must stand corrected on my previous review of Mad Dogs. I guess the pastrami sandwich is a pastrami dog. I was told, I am sure, it was a pastrami sandwich, by the young lady. You can always be wrong though and misunderstand someone, so I will give them the benefit of the doubt on that one. It was really too cheap to be a real pastrami sandwich, now that I know they have something else, the pastrami, dog. Yuk! So I do stand corrected and correct that part of my review. I read someone else’s review on Mad Dog’s and they said he served the hot dogs on fresh bakery buns from a local bakery. My pastrami dog came with a bun from Smart and Final. No local bakery made the one I got! It was a processed, mass produced bun. He also said that Rudy served fresh tortillas from a couple towns down and I saw Rudy with EL Guerrero Tortillas from Smart and Final in his truck, which come from the city of Irvine Texas and they are mass produced. I don’t know of a local tortilla factory and have never heard of one. So fresh tortillas from a couple of towns down, highly debatable, as I saw the tortillas in the packaging from El Guerrero. They said the Carne Asada was moist and chewy. Mine was dry and gristly and reheated(a dark color). It was at night, so maybe it isn’t as good then. I just have to say that I have seen Rudy treat people very nicely, but that was not the case with me. He was short loud and rude. Maybe he was having a bad day or maybe he doesn’t respect people who don’t say the proper time of day and speak it in Spanish. I did say good afternoon on accident on two different occasions, so maybe he was fed up with me. I don’t know what the problem is there, but I do know when I am not treated with respect and spoken/looked down to. In my restaurant, I always, always treated a customer with the utmost respect. My restaurant did $ 2,000,000 a year and I never received a complaint about myself and rarely the employees. It was a full service restaurant. That was back in the eighties and nineties, but like I said, customer is king. I know how to treat all people, even when they might be difficult. I was by no means being difficult, at all. All my other reviews on Unilocal for the most part are positive, so I am not out to «get someone», just stating the facts here. I noticed a couple of people thought my review was funny, but I am being dead serious and honest. I am not being funny at all. I reread the comments I made and I don’t see where it was funny. If you want to have some fairly good Mexican Food, go to Amigo’s. It is very reasonable. the food comes out fast and it is hot and well prepared. The wait staff is extremely pleasant and fast service. They do use shredded beef, not Carne Asada, and it is very moist and tasty. You can get a combo platter, which is more food than you can eat for $ 12. Three items of your choice with rice and beans. Of course all the hot tortilla chips you can eat with salsa. I tip their cooks when I go in there, as they are really on the ball. It is a well run restaurant. I highly recommend it.

Super down home friendly people. I arrived at 3:30 one day, too late, he was sold out of food. I asked Rudy if he got to make his chili yet. He had a little left and gave it to me to try. If you like cumin his chili is the bomb. you got to try it. He was cooking some chicken to take home and made me a chicken quesadilla. free .tasty.He uses one of my favorite cuts of meat thinly sliced for the prime rib sandwich. Tacos, tortas, burittoes are all tasty and fairly priced. You should try it yourself.

Wonderful find! The Hawaiian Dog was delicious. I am a celiac and they were more than happy to wrap it in a corn tortilla. My bf had the pastrami dog and the Phili cheese. He was in heaven! Quick and efficient service, right on corner of Main st and May. Oh, and did mention this is a food truck? Stop in and give it a try you will not be disappointed.

Stopped for lunch here on the way home from Mammoth. Had the carne asada burrito. Great flavor, loved the grilled tortilla. Was hard to find at first though as I thought it was a building rather than a food truck. But, once we found it and had the burritos, we were glad we stopped and tried it out. Ate across the street on some park benches.

Found this little gem on our way and it is incredible. Had the asada tacos and the Rudy dog… The hot dog was perfection and the tacos were awesome. It’ll definitely be a stop any time we come through town.

Wow. I have been eyeing this place but it’s always so hot in bishop. I finally braved the heat and tried Mad Dogs today. It was totally worth it! Exceeded my expectations! I had the carne asada torta and it was so delicious. The beef was flavorful and tender. The veggies were cooked perfectly. The sauce was so yummy. My son had a Philly cheese dog. I don’t usually like hot dogs but it was really outstanding. I can’t wait to go back and try some of the other items on the menu!

Great little food cart with local following– delicious hot dogs, tacos, quesadillas and tortas. Their are also daily specials, a variety of chips and drinks. Rudy and family operate this cart, the service is friendly and quick, the food simple, tasty and inexpensive– great for a quick lunch or dinner. Rudy will cook anything ‘your way’ so don’t be afraid to try it if you don’t immediately see something you want to eat. Had the Rudy dog– comes with sour cream and avocado 4 stars Had the pastrami dog– super 5 stars Had a plain dog with mustard and onions — delish 5 stars All the dogs are cooked to perfection, this is a must do when in Bishop! Lunchtime can be very busy but don’t worry the line moves fast and the food comes out quickly.

I work right next to where Rudy sets up for the day. I can eat there 5days a week and would NEVER be disappointed! He and his family have a passion for for food and friendliness. He is always trying new concoctions and they are extraordinary! !! He mixes his own oils for cooking, makes his own special sauses by hand, makes his own homemade relishes, you name it. He will customize any item you want. He has daily specials like prime rib sandwhiches. But my absolute favorite is the«Barbie» tacos. Carne Asada grilled with onion, bell pepper, mushrooms… then put on a corn tortilla with cilantro, avacado, his special sauces, homemade sourcream, cheese and a side of jalepino… its to die for!!!

Squeezing in a last minute family fishing trip before the season closes staying in Bishop. We were hungry for something non fast food but cheap. Stumbled across Rudy and Mad Dogs. What a find. We had tortas, quesadilla, and a Rudy dog. Everything was fresh, creative and cooked to perfection. Rudy has a true passion for the food and the customers. While waiting for our food we witnessed the love and appreciation that this town has for this little taco cart and Rudy. Don’t be afraid of the taco cart the food is top notch and just as good as any other mexican restaurant in Bishop. We’re hooked…

Rudy is one cool dude. He’s got lots of love in his heart for the people of Bishop as well as all the other folks enjoying the good eats at his adorable little taco stand. He’s open mostly for lunch during the weekdays 11 – 3 and parked at various spots depending on the day of the week. On Tuesdays he’s parked next to the bar for Taco Tuesday. Rudy, his wife and daughter are the people that man the trucks so it’s a family affair. His food is good. The carne asada is moist and chewy with a nice flavor. He is known for his hot dogs but I say you can’t go wrong with anything on the menu. His torta came with a great toasted roll and filled to the brim with carne asada, grilled onions, peppers, avocado and cilantro. If you are lucky enough to come across Rudy and his Mad Dogs and Taco Truck stop by, chat with Rudy, eat some grub and make a new friend.

Rudy’s Mad Dogs and Tacos is simply excellent, with fresh ingredients, handled with care. Rudy’s tacos are Baja style street tacos of grilled carne asada, marinated and cooked to order. Your tacos come with a choice of toppings, but you can’t go wrong with just diced onions, tomatoes, cilantro, and a squeeze of lime. But those who crave sour cream, grated sharp cheese, and salsa can also be accommodated. The bacon wrapped hot dogs are top quality beef franks, and grilled to order until the bacon is just right. You can have it your way, but Rudy’s suggested combos are excellent, the Hawaiian Dog and Jalapeño Dog are stand outs. He offers kid friendly simple girdled hot dogs as well. Rudy offers cold frescoes to go with his delicious choices. Other menu items include a torta(excellent Mexican bread), and for kind customers he will make a burrito or a tostada, and a few other items that are not on the standard menu. Prices are extremely reasonable, with tacos and simple dogs starting at $ 2, few things top out at over $ 5.50 with the works. Once again, the emphasis is on quality ingredients. In my many visits to Rudy’s Mad Dogs and Tacos, it was evident that the toppings had been freshly cut and prepared that morning and properly refrigerated in the best ice chests. The steak had been marinated just long enough to retain meaty flavor, but develop enough fall-apart-in-the-mouth when it had been grilled just long enough, and slapped on tortillas and gobbled up. The hot dogs had been wrapped in bacon that morning, and the buns were fresh from the bakery delivery that day. Rudy uses fresh locally made tortillas(made by a local factory about two towns away) and goes through so many his vendor packs have got to be the freshest from the factory each morning and all used by day’s end! As a last testimony to how good Rudy’s is… one time when I was eating there in the late afternoon, the waitstaff of a local, famous, well-patronized, highly-Yelp!-rated, Mexican restaurant came over to Rudy’s to get their Mexican hot-dog and street taco fix! yes, Rudy’s is that authentic and that delicious.

During my semi-monthly trek to Reno from San Diego I stopped at this awesome food vendor. Enjoy the Mexican style bacon wrapped hot dogs, tortas and carne asada tacos cooked up by Rudy on the corner of May St and US395(aka Main St.). The Hawaiian Dog is to die for. The combination of hot dog, bacon, mango and pineapple is sooo good I ordered 2. The carne asada taco was incredible. I’ve personally sampled dozens of street tacos in Mexico and I find Rudy’s tacos much better. The meat quality was siginficantly better than I found in Mexico. On the way back to San Diego I stopped at Mad Dogs again and ordered a carne asada Torta, a Mexican sandwich. Rudy operates the taco/hot dog stand himself outside of a Union Bank on May Street. Just follow the cloud of carne asada smoke wafting from May St. If you’re making the drive up or down US395 and want to support a locally owned business that serves unbelievably amazing Mexican food give Mad Dogs a try.
