This place was the highlight of our trip! What a wonderful family they are to share this treasure with the public free of charge. We brought our baby there on our walk home and he loved seeing all the different animals. Who would have expected to find a kangaroo on block island?!? It was also very interesting to see animals we had never heard of before like the zedonk(zebra donkey hybrid)

This might be my favorite place on Block Island, if not in all of Rhode Island! It’s cute, it’s quaint, it’s full of amazing, friendly and healthy animals! Technically, it’s a zoo but really it looks like more of a farm. A yak names Justice and a Zedonk named Cindy meander a fenced-in meadow with a group of llama, miniature cattle(you HAVE to see them!), sheep, goats and fowl. They spend their time grazing the grass, but if you pay $ 1 for a cup of feed, they’ll mosey on over to you and eat right from the palm of your hand. Justice will even politely make eye contact with you and gently lift his head, open his mouth and let you know he’s ready for food. It’s charming. A gigantic blonde bunny and a black and white cat roam the grounds freely and are very friendly — be sure to give them a pat on the head. You might even see the kitty playng tag with all the birds, which is really adorable. On the east end of the farm is a pasture of alpacas, fenced into a space of their own. They’re really funny to watch and are as friendly as the other animals — definitely take a stroll across the path to get a glimpse of these guys. For a free attraction, I was so enamored of this place and highly recommend strolling through here if you’re in the little village or staying in one of the big inns nearby. It’s even worth a drive from across the island, if you’re looking for something fun and different to do.

A great place to visit if you have little kids or even just adults. Incredibly fun and it’s free! You’re going to want to donate a couple bucks so you can feed the animals. Watch out for the Llama though, he’s an asshole and stole the entire cup of food from my hand!

Great place to visit! Just a short walk from town and. Free! How can you go wrong? There weren’t hundreds of animals but the ones we saw were interesting. The Zonkey(Zebra Donkey) only has one eye but he’s as cute as can be and very gentle. The two Kangaroos looked a little drunk! They were lying on the ground with their eyes half closed. The alpacas were super cute with their poofy hairdo! We had a nice time and would definitely recommend taking the walk over to all island visitors! :)

SOFUN!!! I am a grown woman with no children and I loved this place. They have a yak… and a zedonk with one eye! They sell feed for $ 1/cup(honor system, so don’t ruin it for everyone). Great for groups, small kids, old folks, whoever. They have a handwash station outside, too.

If you’re looking for something free or different to do on Block Island, then this is your best bet. It’s located in the back of the Manisses Hotel. There are definitely some interesting animals to be seen here. There are camels, a one-eyed zedonk(cross between a donkey and a zebra, which I had never seen before). There are also plenty of ducks, and a few emus who love to get right up into your face.

I went to Block Island and(verb, past tense) ____! I went to Block Island saw(noun) ____! Popular answers. Biked, a lighthouse. Duh. Kayaked on the salt pond, big beautiful cliffs. Ooh. Took pretty pictures, charming Victorian Hotels. Check. Pet an alpaca, a zedonk with one eye. Whoa, wait what? Free! And it will feel weird, but you can go inside the alpaca pen and you’re not breaking any rules. Big walking stuffed animals.

Someone has brought a yak onto Block Island. A yak.(As well as a zedonk, a tortoise, a camel, and a Scottish longhorn, but the yak was the most impressive member of the ensemble.) Now, never having been to Block Island before, perhaps the spirit behind this sort of display isn’t that surprising to others who know the place better, and I should have expected it. Nevertheless, a yak certainly wasn’t something I expected to find walking distance from the ferry dock. It made me quite curious to meet the mastermind behind this free menagerie, but he wasn’t around(it was raining). Anyway, the under-four-foot set in my household definitely appreciated this place, and I would recommend it to others of the same height or spirit. Thanks very much to the perpetrator.

My wife and I just returned from Block Island. In my opinion, the Animal Farm was the best thing we saw. They have a real menagerie. They have a yak, camels, llamas, lemurs, kangaroos, alpacas, donkeys, a zedonk(cross-bread donkey and zebra), emus, ducks, geese, a bull, and a few other animals. It’s all free and you can pet the alpacas! It really was pretty cool.

A place to see some critters Manisses Animal Farm is a little place where people on Block Island can go to see some animals. It’s absolutely free and located in the back of the Manisses Hotel, a fantastic place to stay. Not just the usual goats, chickens, and sheep but they also have some exotic critters like llamas, emus, camels, kangaroos and those long haired cow like things with really big horns. I believe I remember someone there saying that they occasional borrow animals from zoos. Most of the critters roam around in a very large fenced in area and are obviously use to humans. Some will come right up to the fence, while others will just look at you from a distance. All the creatures look healthy and contented and seem to get along with each other. However last summer I remember seeing a chicken go up and peck the camel, who then kicked at the llama who went over and hissed at a goat. Interesting exchange. The goat had a look on his face like what the hell did I do. A cool place that is worth going out of you way to see. The animals are all so cool. Manisses Animal Farm makes a nice little break from other more strenuous activities.
