We absolutely LOVE La Torre! My husband and I have spent many date nights here over the last 2 decades. Amazing food, amazing service… it keeps us coming back over and over again. :-)

I really like this restaurant for a choice of Mexican food. Their sauces atop their enchiladas and other dishes are so bright with freshness and their queso is a little runny and bland, but still cheesy, which is the most important part. Whenever I drive by, I feel confused by the tarps that seem to have been there for a while, but, no worries, there will be a seat for you inside.

I suggested this restaurant awhile ago, and I brought my wife’s family here because it’s near my house. This place was so disappointing, that la Torre has actually become a joke at our house. My seven year old son, who screams with anger wherever taco bell is mentioned, quietly mentioned that he would have rather gone to taco bell than to la Torre. I agreed. Again, la Torre was so disappointing that it had become an inside joke at our house.

Food was some of the freshest Mexican I’ve had in awhile and was really delicious. Wait staff also really friendly and good.

When I saw that they have outdoor seating, I had such high hopes for La Torre. I dreamt of sipping margaritas on mild summer evenings and noshing on some awesome chips and salsa. But, sadly, this is a dream unfulfilled because I won’t be returning to La Torre. I will start by saying that my chicken breast w/cheese meal wasn’t bad, but I just couldn’t get over the salsa. It… isn’t really salsa. It’s like cucumber red confusing stuff. Seriously guys, all we tasted was cucumber in the salsa! For a minute, I was thinking that it was surely a misstep by the staff and I even asked our server about the ingredients. She said that is is a little different and reminds her of gazpacho. GazpachNO is more like it. No one in our party could get past it. I kept trying it, thinking that it would get better, but it didn’t. If salsa weren’t such a major part of the entire mexican meal, then perhaps I’d give this place 3 stars, but the salsa and the bland food just didn’t do it for me.

I thought that I had already reviewed this place but I must have forgotten. We have eaten here about 3 – 4 times in the past month and the service has always been great. I wish that I remembered the guy who waited on us last night Tuesday October 6th. He was definitely a great server. We opted to sit outside on their covered patio as it was a nice fall afternoon and we had time to kill before our last class of the day. I first of all want to say I am not sure why all the bad reviews as we have had great experiences here. If you have read my other reviews of Mexican restaurants in Indiana you will know that there is not any place in this state that has superior Mexican food. I guess I was really spoiled by living in Southern California for several years. But for Indiana they have some pretty good food here and reasonably priced. In southern Cali they have what is called Carne Asada Papas which is nothing but a big plate full of french fires smothered in Queso Fresca cheese and loaded down with chopped up Carne Asada with some sour cream and diced tomatoes and guacamole. This is the only Mexican Restaurant in town that I could get anyone to prepare this for me. I will tell you their Carne Asada has the best flavor of any other restaurant in town. There is nothing fancy about this place but I give them 4 stars for being so nice and accommodating to us. We have had the Steak fajitas and they are really good too. They have Coke products and they really need to get someone to service their machine as it just tastes terrible. I prefer Pepsi anyway but this stuff tastes flat and really too much syrup. I really do like their outdoor seating as I said it is covered and we just love sitting out there.

I really want to like this restaurant. The staff always seem so happy to see you. Fast and friendly service. Thus, 2 stars. After reading some of your reviews I was hoping they had made an effort to improve their food. Nope! Watery salsa, stale chips, very limited lunch menu, and everything was very bland. Guess they don’t know about jalapenos, cilantro, garlic, onion, etc… Beer was great. I hope this place can improve.

I never thought I would say this but the food here is actually bland. I’ve been here twice and thought the same thing. It was ok but I couldn’t see coming here again. The service was ok as well.

My wife, son, and I visited again last night, and we continue to be impressed. The service was outstanding. Kudos to Ryan for making the experience top notch. We each tired something different this time, and we all were extremely happy with our choices. Once again, the portions were large, and the food was tasty. We will be back again soon! We highly recommend it.

Only place to find micheladas! Not bad, not good! But the size of it is ridiculous and almost 7 dlls for a super small michelada! I tried the steak fajitas, they were ok! Nothing special about them Service is excellent!

i’m kind of surprised by all the bad reviews. la torre has been a staple restaurant of mine since i was in high school so… late 90s/early 2000s. i get the same thing every time, i will admit. but that’s because it’s huge & awesome(chicken quesadilla). & i love their mexican rice. plus that quesadilla is like less than 5 bucks & the size of a dinner plate. my friends & i also always get the queso with our chips. has to be done! i did order chicken tortilla soup once & it was the most bland thing i’ve ever had but i’ll let that slide this once. either way, still love la torre!

Salsa was watery, not sure what was wrong with it, but it didn’t look right or taste right. The food was great, the staff was great! Gave good recommendations for food and will probably go back!

Wish I could give no stars. This place is horrible and I have no idea how they’re still in business. Absolutely horrible service from the get go. Took the server 15 minutes to get us chips and drinks, even though he he no other tables(I’m a server I know how it works). We finally order our food and get our drinks after about 30 minutes. Our food come out and part of it isn’t right, but what is correct tasted absolutely horrible. I got enchiladas verdes; the chicken tasted like water and the verdes sauce was questionable. One of the dishes was a shrimp taco salad that contained 75% lettuce and hardly any shrimp. We sent the dish back and said we didn’t want to replace it. When we asked to have the dish removed from the bill our server informed us that he expected us to pay for it because their manager was home asleep. After about 15 awkward minutes the problem was solved. As we were leaving the manager emerged from the kitchen and waved us off. Never ever ever ever ever will I ever come back here. Ever. Horrible.

Ripoff. Food portions are tiny, way overpriced, and the service is terrible. Our terrible service was graciously provided by a skinny guy with glasses and quite a b****y attitude. Had to ask to bring us chips. AT A MEXICANRESTAURANT. Guac was just sitting on the table alone for 15 minutes. Salsa was utterly tasteless. Ordered a drink when we sat down and the drink came near the end of the meal! Are we on a hidden camera show? Seriously? Brought my vegan friend her dish with a huge lump of sour cream. Verde sauce was watery and tasteless. Taco salad was $ 15, had almost no meat, and was 75% shredded lettuce. Server told us there was NOMANAGER even on duty, at 9pm, so he couldn’t take anything off of our bill. Was being extremely slow on purpose, since we were the ONLYTABLEINTHERESTAURANT. Would be surprised if this janky place stays open longer than 6 months.

Whenever I visit my parents in Bloomington, we end up here, and I am always disappointed. I’ve finally learned not to order the chile rellenos; they always taste as though they were made hours, if not days before. During our most recent visit it was just as mediocre as ever. As mentioned by other Unilocalers, the chips do not taste fresh and the salsa is bland. We got the cheese dip this time as well and it was just icky. I got the grilled chicken breast, and I think that might be the safest bet. It wasn’t great, but it wasn’t horrible. People often defend Mexican(or other«ethnic» restaurants) by pointing out that they are owned by people cooking their native cuisine. I’ve been to enough mediocre«American» restaurants around the world that were run by Americans to shoot down that argument. On the other hand, this is Bloomington, Indiana, and I’m not sure there is such a thing as a good Mexican restaurant here.

I created a Unilocal account just to say how terrible this food is. I’ve never had bad Mexican food before, I didn’t even know it could be bad… until I ate at La Torre. Absolutely disgusting.

Worst service ever… waitress did not write down order and it became my fault when she delivered the wrong entrée. She promised a quick replacement which never came. Left with no dinner and she charged me two bucks for my iced tea. I won’t be going back. I’d like to give zero stars.

La Torre is as authentic as you can get for Mexican food. The Salazar’s are so friendly and take care of you from door in to door out. The bean dip is amazing and drizzled with queso. Ask the server what you should get, they definitely know the ins and outs as they do not have a lot of turnover.

So here is another example of something that I really wanted to like. But it just didn’t get there. First, the positive– we came for Sunday lunch after church and found that they have a Sunday Brunch menu, and that it included an option for fresh squeezed juices. They even brought a sample to our table which was very good. However, more than $ 3 for one glass was a bit much for my desired budget, so I passed. I hoped that the brunch menu would be a nice change of pace and add something to the choices for a Sunday out. However, basically, the brunch menu was a few different breakfast burrito choices, and various egg dishes(Huevos something or other…) So it just wasn’t all that. Then this is Mexican restaurant in Bloomington. There are several supposed«authentic» Mexican restaurants in town. Since I’ve been to Mexican restaurants in Texas and California and have a Hispanic sister-in-law, they just don’t measure up for me. Is it reasonably priced for a meal out, yes. Is it a culinary experience which left me yearning for more… not even close. So I would have gone 3 stars, but then they hit my pet peeve. The service was pretty good until it came to clearing the table and getting the check. We had to go to the counter, ask for it, have it rung up and stand there and pay. I(and notably my children) get very antsy about 45 minutes in any restaurant, and especially when the food is gone and we’re just waiting. This part of the meal can break the experience for me, and in this case, on this visit to La Torre, we took 30 minutes to order and eat, and after 20 minutes of waiting, we had to go ask. At the desk because our server was nowhere to be found. Disappointed overall. And the nonexistent check at the end of the meal was a big turn off. That said, this is my in-laws’ go to Bloomington Mexican place and my kids ate all of their food, so not a total loss. Just not a big win either.
