Dr. Melanie Carver is a gem! The associates at the front desk are just as sweet. However, I hope that you never have the displeasure of dealing with«Dr. Strithe /Dr. Strith /Dr. Strike.» He was incredible rude and I left mid-appointment because of his terrible attitude.

I would rather be blind than have to go back to this place. They are absolutely incompetent. I’m not a difficult patient, but I had to go back three times for them to get my contacts fitted… And they still couldn’t get it right! On top of all that, they don’t keep appointments. Each time I went, I had to wait for over 30 minutes to finally see somebody. Then they had other staff administer the eye exam. Horrible, horrible, horrible

I scheduled my first eye appointment in 12 years with Dr. Samantha Jahnke. She was great! Especially for me who had not had much prior experience with an optometrist. She kept me informed of what was going on through out my exam. At no point did I feel uneasy, because she kept me informed and was very friendly. I would highly recommend anyone who is in need of an optometrist to schedule an appointment with Dr. Jahnke, I know I will be going to her in the future!

The poor customer service continues at eye clinic at Lenscrafters in the College Mall, even after the switch to a new optometrist, Melanie Carver. Contact wearers beware — I was once again told a ‘new and improved’ set of contacts were at least equivalent to the ones which have always made my eyes happy previously(Do they get a kick-back for convincing you to switch brands?). Yet due to my doubt(after bad recommendations there before), I went on-line and found horror stories of people who were told the new recommended brand worked as well as the old one(at letting the eye breathe). Simply put: The new brand failed MANY people(and the reported stats on the contacts were NOT the same). Also, I had to fight with the staff by making several phone calls to get my on-line contact order approved. In-spite of what they tell you, you can order as many contacts as you want from an on-line site — not«just a one year supply»(since, of course, I want extras for the usual lost and torn contacts). Just order what you want on the on-line site and the site will only need to confirm if you have a current eye exam on record. Additionally, my exam, which included a contact fitting and the optional eye ball photos(results never shown or explained to me), was well over $ 100 for 30 min(This is a rate of over $ 200/hour!). This price is easily beat by Walmart, Sam’s or other eye exam locations(same equipment — same expertise). The eye glasses available in the store too seemed quite dated, in-spite of the name brand options. Last but not least, the typical ‘three weeks before an appointment is available’ and the need to write-down all of my contact information all over again at check-in(at least three years of this now) was quite annoying(Just have Clients note any updated contact information). Overall Grade: D-.

Good — eyeglasses inventory, prices, affordable protection insurance Bad — store was understaffed(took 10 – 15 min to get checked out), didn’t have lenses in stock, had to wait 5 days to receive lens, when they got the lens they screwed it up and had to order another, and I’m still waiting to get my new glasses…

So I am not always a fan of Lens Crafters the company, but I do have to share just how helpful this particular location was to me yesterday. I was in my last evening class when my glasses broke, so I rushed over there around 8:20pm. I had thought I only lost a screw, but it turned out my new glasses were defective. Being from another state and different Lens Crafters I figured I was screwed. Luckily for me, both the lab tech and sales associate were very helpful and kind. I got my frames exchanged and they did it all with friendly service. I cannot thank them enough because I cannot afford not to see, or to pay another $ 300. I think it is safe to say you can trust the work they do and know you are getting personal service, even a half hour before close.
