This place was fun for a date night with friends, the margarita list was fantastic as well as the drinks themselves. The food was delicious, portion size was a bit small from the apps, guacamole and queso funditio, to the entrees. The servers were very friendly and attentive. I didn’t expect to spend what I did. I Still would recommend this place for a fun night out

It is not a good value for the price. The staff was quite friendly, however, the food was mediocre. Corn soup was very good. The dinner entries were ok. Vegetarian selection is very limited and the staff could not explain very well the entrée’s description. I live in Bucks County so it was a 45 minute ride each way, and i would not go back, Instead, i feel that the Los Sarapes in Horsham(owned by the brother of El Sarape) is an excellent choice for Lunch as well as Dinner and an ideal location close to Bucks and Montgomery counties.

went here with a group and we sat outside and waited for what seemed forever for our food and finally got it and my chicken was way overcooked… i have had better.

Highly recommended. The food is delicious. We tried a few different options — seafood appetizer, meatballs and shrimp as the entrees. All were fresh and tasty. Drinks were also great. I had the cucumber jalapeño margarita(two of them). Aside from the food being great, the staff is helpful, professional and delightful. Fantastic little place.

Legit now our new favorite place. Intimate. Great service. The margaritas. The churro — omg — you must get the churro for dessert. We were told by a few different people to try this place out and we will definitely be spreading the word as well. Delicious.

El serape has a few key things going for it: Authenticity of its flavors and pallet– the flavoring of their dishes is great, and traditional in style(not a heavy cumin or texmex infusion)(black beans sre great) Their meats, especially steak are well cooked and seasoned. Great guacamole. Relatively large selection of tequila and mixed drink options. Although the house margaritas tend to be too sweet for me, most love them. Given that I’m not in California any more; Id give this a place 5 stars and it definitely one of the better options outside the city for sit-down Mexican food.

We just celebrated Cinco de Mayo. El Sarape did an amazing job. The service was lightening fast and the food tasted fabulous. I have been to terrible cinco de mayo due to restaurants being overwhelmed. It was evident that they planned and executed very well. Great job El Sarape!!!

I can’t wrap my head around all of these great reviews. The food is pretty good, but this is a hole-in-the-wall Mexican restaurant, and they charge you like it was the Ritz. It is waaaay too pricey for a plate of Mexican food. Although the location is convenient for me … and I love Mexican food, I would never go there again. Ever. Not at those prices.

The only reason why I gave one star was because I couldn’t give zero. This was one of the worst dining experiences that my husband and I have ever had. It started from the moment we walked in the door when people who arrived after us with a later reservation time were seated before us. The poor customer service continued when our waiter brought me something different than I ordered and then argued with me that I ordered that dish. He would not replace it with what I actually ordered and then charged for the meal even though I told him it was not my order(and barely ate any of it). Despite the fact that the food is okay, we will never return to this restaurant given the incredibly poor customer service and disrespectful staff.

I absolutely love El Sarape! I drive 40 minutes to come here for dinner because that food is unlike any other Mexican restaurant I’ve been to. You can tell that everything is made from scratch using fresh ingredients, unlike a lot of other Mexican restaurants. Btw, the best part is their rice! It is always consistently lift and fluffy. I love it.

So far the food is excellent! We have only had chips and salsa but the chips are fresh! The salsa has so much flavor! The atmosphere is lovely!

Finally tried the Pollo Campaneiro and it is amazing! It’s a pounded and butterflied chicken breast grilled and stuffed with queso, crème, and jalapenos, and topped with more queso, all covered in a delicious cream-based sauce and served with queso-dusted roasted veggies and white rice. The chicken is very tender and flavorful, and the sauce is to die for. We also had the chicken enchiladas with mole which was decent but not as amazing as the pollo! The al pastor huarache is also solid and the flat-bread is super thin so I actually recommend rolling a piece or you will drop all of the toppings on your plate. Still a solid go-to for Mexican in Blue Bell!

Wonderful experience. We are far from experts in the Mexican cuisine area but we know what we like !! Both dishes my husband and I had were tasty, delicious and NOT so overpowering in spice that we couldn’t eat it. He had a traditional combo style platter and I had a shrimp combo in a sauce that was delightful. Atmosphere and lighting was subdued but nice overall. Will definitely go back.

Nope. Sorry. Didn’t do it for me. The ambience is nice. They have an outdoor patio with candles and the interior of the restaurant is dimly lit and romantic. Perfect for couples. The waitstaff seems very attentive and accomodating, so… why only two stars? Well, because I’m basing this review primarily on the food. It was way overpriced and almost completely unacceptable for the money. It started out well enough, I ordered chips and salsa to start. The waiter asked f i would like guacamole. SInce I intended to order the flautas, I said no, because guacamole comes with the flautas. So the chips arrived and they came with a side of fresh salsa. I love fresh. But there was no zing to their salsa at all. It was a very simple combination of fresh tomatoes, onions and a very little cilantro or any other discernible spices. The chips, I believe were fresh baked. Also a plus. LOVE fresh baked. But they were too thick and hard to my liking. As an ex-Los Angelino, I look for a certain light crispness in my tortilla chips and a certain amount of heat to the salsa. Neither were there in El Sarape’s chips and salsa. Nevertehless, I ate what I could, since the entre was taking forever. And the flautas… absolutely not worth the wait. There was hardly any guacamole, which I was really looking forward to with my flautas. Not enough cheese, either. There was no flavor whatsoever. Any salt they might have added was in the side of rice. In fact, the rice was so salty, it made the meal quite unenjoyable. And I’m a guy who usually needs to add salt to everything. Not this time. But the surprising thing was the flautas themselves. The chicken inside was so shriveled and dried out, it was hardly even recognizable as chicken. When I got the bill, I noticed I was charged $ 5.00 for the chips. Now on the menu, there are chips and guacamole for $ 5.00, which though a bit high, I found to be a reasonable expectation for a trendy spot. But since I only got chips and salsa, five bucks seemed innapropriate. Okay, that’s just me, but I’m still pretty miffed that the amount of guacamole that came with my flautas was so minimal, I feel ripped off. For the record, i did not cause a scene. I didn’t ask them to remake my flautas or give me more guac. I suppose I could have, but I review based on the food and service right out of the gate. And I wasn’t about to wait another 45 minutes for them to redo a meal that would probably have come out only slightly better. So, I won’t be going back tp El Serape anytime soon. However, now I need to get to Señor Salsa in Abington or Las Margaritas in NE Philly to quell my craving for the kind of Mexican food that’s closer to what I’m accustomed to.

We passed El Sarape a few times so we decided to check them out. There’s outdoor, indoor, and bar seating but they’re all pretty limited so it’s probably tough to get a seat here if you go on a weekend(we went on a Tuesday and we didn’t have to wait to be seated for dinner). Inside, they play Spanish music and the place is dimly lit and I like that kind of environment so it was pretty nice. The chips and salsa were pretty good but they’re not complementary; the chips are thick and crunchy and the salsa is chunky, and there’s a hint of spice which is nice. I ordered the Mexican Jumbo(vegetarian edition, without chicken) and it was really good, the enchiladas were delicious and the bean and cheese taco was nice too. My boyfriend ordered the Tampiquena and said he really enjoyed it and the steak was really good. The service was good up until we were waiting for the check, where it slowed down a little. Not a huge beer variety and it’s all bottled and $ 5. I get the impression that you’ll always get great food and moderate service here. The only negative is that they’re very expensive. I’ve never seen a vegetarian meal that is primarily carbs cost over $ 15 and the fact that the chips and salsa weren’t complementary either was disappointing.

I was excited d to come here as I’ve heard great things. My husband and I both got an alcoholic drink… We weren’t impressed. The food was just okay. There were only three sets of people in the restaurant with a few waiters and a bartender. My husband and I waited too long for service after we got our food – our waiter was also dining in the dining room with staff, one of which appeared to be a female manager who saw us making that«hello, we’ve been sitting here with empty plates for 15 minutes. Anyone want to help?» look, but went back to eating her dinner with the wait staff. No one alerted our waiter that we were giving«the eye» that we needed attention. I don’t mind spending a decent amount of money on a good meal, but this was WAY too exorbitant for the service, quality of food, and drinks. There’s no chance I’ll return.

True Mexican cuisine! Second trip and definitely worth returning. Staff always friendly and food excellent. Ordered a dish that I saw previously from another custom and thought I’d try it out. Wasn’t on the menu but after describing it to the waitress she told me it was delicious. Needless to say I was pleasantly surprised when it came out! Red snapper was juicy, tasted fresh and was perfectly cooked. My date was in shock and tried to eat my plate. lol. Overall a fun, full experience! I would also recommend the cucumber and jalapeño margarita. See photo

Sadly, I am removing my previous, very positive review of El Sarape and replacing it with this one, which is the opposite: completely negative. And yet the food is still great, the wait staff still welcoming and highly competent. So what changed my opinion? One awful experience. And that is the lesson I’m trying to convey: One bad experience can outweigh many good ones. The tale begins with a Groupon we had not been able to use, and which was expiring that day. We called, made a reservation, telling them we had a Groupon that we had just remembered we had. The only table open was just barely doable for us, time-wise, if we rushed, so we left immediately. When we arrived, we once again told them we had a Groupon. When we ordered, we repeated that we had a Groupon, since restaurants always want to be told them about it in advance of ordering. The meal was good. We had bought the Groupon intending to use it with friends(the reason we did not use the Groupon earlier or invite friends to join us comes later in this review), so we ordered more food than we needed in order to use its value. We gave the Groupon to the waitress; after a few minutes she returned and told us they couldn’t take it because it was Saturday night and it was only valid from Sunday through Thursday. So there we were, faced with a very large check we had not expected. And this is exactly the situation that every restaurant should try to avoid. No one likes surprises when it comes to money. Noticing the manager, I got up and told her our problem and asked why no one had told us – considering that they had three opportunities to do so – that our Groupon was not valid. She told me there are all sorts of Groupon offers and that«this happens all the time.» I noted that the very fact that it «happens all the time» should motivate her to have her staff ask to see the Groupon before people order their food. I mentioned that no one likes to be surprised about money. Most regrettably, the manager actually laughed out loud at my suggestion. I went and sat down, having just been humiliated in front of many people. It got worse – she watched me sit down, made eye contact, and once again snickered, no doubt pleased that she had forced this nasty woman who was obviously trying to pull a fast one to pay her a lot of money. The laughing at me part motivated my husband to go speak to the manager. I should here mention that the reason we had not used the Groupon previously was that he’d had a heart attack. This was the first time since leaving the hospital we had gone out; we were trying to have a quiet dinner to celebrate the fact that he was alive. Yes, it was on us to have checked the Groupon more closely. But sometimes the reasons people do dumb things is not that they are stupid or dishonest. Sometimes they have a lot of more important things on their minds. The hospitality business is about knowing that, not about shaming people, laughing at them or insulting them. Yet not at El Sarape! Oh my no! The manager was just as rude to my husband as she’d been to me. She asked him what he wanted her to do. He told her he wanted her to honor the Groupon. She told him not to tell her how to run her business. Seriously, those are her exact words, after specifically asking him what he wanted her to do! I have never experienced quite that level of arrogance in a restaurant. The manager did grudgingly give us a gift card, but didn’t tell us how much it’s worth. Frankly, I expect it has $ 5.00 on it, but even if it was $ 5,000.00 we will not be returning to any of the Sarape restaurants(El Sarape and the two Los Sarapes, all owned by the same people). Ever.

Guacamole was decent(not the best I ever had)…but steak was phenomenal. The servers in general aren’t that hospitable or attentive. They don’t do it on purpose, but should take a lesson on hospitality. I keep coming to this place for the steak.
