Love finding Mexican food that is not a carbon copy of what too many Mexican restaurants serve. Food was fresh and tasty and service was excellent. Enjoyed our lunch the tacos rojos and shredded beef tacos.

The Unilocal reviews are right, this IS authentic Mexican food. Go here, try it, you’ll want more. I do! As a business traveler I searched and found the best Mexican food in the area. The salsa was freshly made, with lots of juicy tomato bits, garlic, onion, and cilantro. I enjoyed the just cooked chips and wasted no salsa. I decided to have a pork taco which came with onions and cilantro. It’s served on a soft corn tortilla and was the perfect bite. For an entrée I chose the chicken enchiladas suizas, which had 4 enchiladas with shredded chicken, topped with cheese, a scoop of guacamole & a red sauce. Then a side of Mexican rice. I added some green salsa for a little more heat. Man these were good, served hot, with soft enchiladas and perfectly seasoned chicken inside. The interior was quaint, clean and comfortable. The service was very friendly from start to finish and food delivered in good time. I definitely felt this place was as authentic and original as you could get. Bluffton has a hidden gem here, and you should stop by. I certainly will return on future visits.

This place is amazing! I grew up in LA, so finding good Mexican food in different cities is not an easy task. I read the reviews and stopped one day after work, and oh, was I glad I did! The food is made to order and you can watch it being cooked. It is family owned and operated by a husband and wife. I have had four of their dishes and they were all delicious. A gem in a sea of fake Mexican food. Try it, you will not be disappointed.

Come here for authentic Mexican food!!! This is not Tex Mex. This place also does Gluten Free because everything is made right here. Open kitchen where everything is made to order. The chicken fajitas were amazing. Corn tortillas they must make to order also. Hot and tasty. Must ask for green hot sauce. It makes the meal even better. You will not be disappointed !!

Pretty good food! I had chilaquiles which were good but needed to be more saucy got red(mild) sauce would do spicy green next time. Had 2 fried eggs on top — if you ask for chicken you get just some boneless grilled fillets alongside not shredded within. Black refried beans had really good flavor. Hubby got chile relleno stuffed with cheese which he enjoyed but thought the sauce over it a little mild. Very good fresh salsa and chips(homemade). Service prompt and courteous. Would go back and try some other dishes.

Do your taste buds a huge favor and take them to La Huasteca! This restaurant is outstanding; it goes toe-to-toe with the best authentic, family-run Mexican restaurants in Los Angeles. The service(we were served by «Mom» of the«Mom and Pop» proprietors; «Pop» was in the open kitchen) is great, very friendly and attentive, and the food is knock-your-socks-off good! I had the Alambres without cheese(choose the corn tortillas, if you didn’t like corn tortillas before you will now, and if you did you’ll never find better ones — they are handmade in house) which was perfectly seasoned and perfectly cooked with wonderful peppers and onions, chicken and steak. Wife had the shredded chicken enchiladas with the green sauce(very spicy), she loved them. We also had the chicken flautas which were full of seasoned/marinated, shredded chicken and fried just right — not greasy and perfectly crunchy. The guacamole that came with them was perfect, just avocado and a hint of cilantro. I think they make their own crème fraîche, which came on the flautas, adding just the right amount of creaminess for contrast. Finally, wife and I also split a chorizo sope(hey, we just hiked 8 miles!) because we couldn’t pass up a homemade sope. It was perfectly fried and the toppings were fresh and flavorful. The chorizo was perfectly flavored and not oily(i.e., it was Mexican chorizo and not the bastardized American version). We ended up each taking home about 1⁄3 of our dinners because of all the food we ordered — the portions are generous. Few additional notes: They do serve Horchata and traditional Mexican sodas but we didn’t order any this meal. The restaurant is very clean and the open kitchen makes for a very welcoming entry and experience(it’s sort of like coming into the proprietors home). Prices are very reasonable. Ask for the green salsa if you like heat, it is delicious(the red was also delicious but without the spiciness)! I am confident after only one trip that anything I order on this menu is going to be delicious! Bottom line, wife hasn’t had good Mexican like this since she lived in LA and I’ve never had good Mexican like this except when I visited her in LA. This is not a fancy restaurant with frills; it’s a small Mom and Pop establishment in an otherwise nondescript shopping center. But if you come in to La Huasteca you 1) won’t want to leave, and 2) will thoroughly enjoy both the food and the company of the warm and wonderful proprietors.

Awesome Mexican food. We really enjoyed our visit. We drank water so didn’t have to worry about the lack of soda refills. We will try again, I’m sure, before we leave the area.

Was a little hard to find but worth the search. Authentic. Don’t expect the normal Tex Mex experience here. Salsa was very good. Very fresh. The steak fajitas were good. Steak was tender and not greasy like most places. My wife had the chimichanga with the hot red sauce. It was very hot but flavorful. Just be warned its hot. Rice was awesome!

Have had a craving for some mexican food for awhile. Only problem is I have yet to find a good authentic Mexican restaurant since moving to Beaufort. Came to Bluffton to shop and thought maybe we would have better luck here. Went on Unilocal and went totally by recommendations and ratings. What a serendipity! It was the best mexican food I have eaten since visiting Mazatlan. It’s quaint and hospitable. I knew we were in the right place because we were the only gringos in the place. Reasonably priced. No frills just excellent food.

My wife and I came here on Labor Day weekend looking for a restaurant that was nice but not too expensive. And this was a GREAT experience. Excellent beef burrito, delicious flan, very friendly staff, and great fresh chips brought immediately to our table. Great reasonable prices. Definitely a wonderful hole in the wall find.

Wow, Wow, Wow best hole in the wall ever in my life! I am a Mexican who married an European and we don’t like going to Mexican restaurants because I am a passionate cook and we get very disappointed of the concept of Mexican food in the U.S. This restaurant proves me wrong and God I am proud of it! We came to Bluffton for a friend’s Wedding, we looked up places for good meals on Unilocal and«La Huasteca» appeared as the only one in red and 5 stars and only one $, so we decided to give it a try. We experienced heaven! I have been dreaming for a Zacahuil(a very special tamale variation from central Mexico) for a long time. They had it in the menu so I didn’t even think twice about it, I asked for it. The cracked maize was perfectly cooked and mixed with the right spices, the tender pork on top of it was juicy and cooked to perfection all these hugged in a banana leave of heaven made have flash backs of my childhood. My husband had the Menudo which was better than the one I prepare at home. My son’s shrimp cocktail reminded me of the one a street vendor would sell back home in Mexico. My daughter’s Flautas were just like my mother’s. My other son ordered a Beef Burrito my grandmother could not have prepared better herself. Rick Bayless you have competition in South Carolina!

This place has seriously the best authentic Mexican food on the east coast, ever! Been here multiple times and I have never been disappointed. They even make their tortillas there too! I’ve had the tacos and the menudo on the weekend.

You will enjoy the friendly service, the food is fantastic and the price is right. I thought about giving it(4) stars because they do not serve alcohol, but why, what they do serve is great food with a smile. We will be back.

Relatively small and tucked away in a maze of urban development, this restaurant will provide you with a filling and delicious Mexican meal. It feels and tastes more authentic than the usual chain, and combined with friendly service you’ll have a good meal. If you’re looking for quick, casual, Mexican food but don’t want to sacrifice quality then La Huasteca is your place.

We eat here at least once week for lunch. It was a great find when we moved here three months ago. We have our favorite dishes, but everything we have tried had been excellent. The staff is helpful, friendly and take good care of us. The kitchen is so clean, the floors are very clean. That’s impressive! Reasonable prices, too. If the local Hispanic eat here, you know its good! We’re about the only non Hispanic in here each time, and we will always return. Be sure to try this family owned place.
