Just awesome! Great relaxed atmosphere and mellow yet outgoing crowd. The frequent live music and great drinks are the icing on the cake. This bar makes me want to move to Boise just so I could hang out here more often!

May be my favorite bar in Boise, but will take a break from coming here. I just moved down from Seattle, where some places are cool with people bringing dogs to the bar, and heard that pengilly’s was dog-friendly. The GF and I took the pooch a few times and had a blast! Great décor, fun music, good beer selection, generally a fun crowd, and everybody expressed that they loved the dog. Tonight, the bartender told me that they NEVER allowed dogs(after I’d already been with the pup a good five times), but if they really aren’t dog-friendly, no big deal. He did, however, make sure to be exactly as condescending as he could in telling me to try the next bar that allows dogs, while scoffing at me. I really don’t mind if it is not a dog-friendly bar, but the inconsistency left me feeling like I did something wrong, when I dont think there was a way I could have known.

Loved this place! Me and my boyfriend are visiting from Los Angeles and our«in-laws» took us here. The atmosphere is so amazing, and our bartender was super fast and soo friendly. There was also a fantastic live band playing. Can’t wait to come back and hopefully bring friends.

Great old place to just hang and drink. Back bar is beautiful, and the old stage just makes you wonder just how many cool entertainers have been up there. If you’re looking for loud and fast, this isn’t your place. Definitely a top chillax place in Boise.

One of my favorite bars in Boise! Service is friendly and they have a cool atmosphere with live music and pool tables. The classy vibe this place has usually deters your obnoxious drunken bar hoppers which is great when you want to just relax. My favorite night to go is on Thursdays when Frim Fram Four is playing.

I couldn’t ask for a cooler place. Total throwback with great American Roots type music on stage. Very affordable and it makes me wish that there was a Pengilly’s in every town.

This spot was recommended by two people while I was having dinner in Boise, ID. Very eclectic bar! You need to walk around and take in the ambience, very Native American saloon with lots of character. I was taken with the light fixtures, and the wallpaper behind the bar — reminded me of the print from the Disney haunted mansion(strange, right?). You will also find a lot of neat old pictures that adorn the walls. They have a little stage and they play live music every night after 9pm. They also have one pool table which is always fun. Drinks were priced fair, I had a Guinness Draught for $ 4. If you are looking for a unique place with character, make sure to check out Pengilly’s Saloon. I was told by the locals that this is where the cool kids hang, LOL. Cheers to that!

Some places don’t need a long review. I came from out of town — living in Delaware, from Los Angeles, California — for a wedding. And I loved this place. I would go here regularly if there was something in the same realm. Stiff drinks. Tables. Pool. Music. And happy people. Good enough for me.

I used to love going to Pengilly’s as a break from the usual in downtown Boise. I still love going there, as long as it’s on a weekday. Since they opened the expanaded area, the atmosphere feels different to me… maybe the new pool tables take the focus away from the music? Before the expanded area, it was a busy bar but you could still find a place to stand around to talk or watch the band. I tried to visit on a Saturday about a month ago and it was my first time there since the expansion. It was completely packed. I don’t think I was even able to get to the bar to get a drink. I’m really glad they’re doing well, but I’ll stick to visiting on Sunday nights to see some bluegrass. Drinks are decently priced, the music is usually something danceable, and I like that it gets a mixed-ages crowd.

More like a 4+ stars… this place is great and certainly somewhere I’d spend more of my time if I lived in town. Came here after dinner at Bar Gernika in hopes of grabbing a drink and taking in a bit of local flavor. I agree with Pity D about the charm and the old-saloon feel. The stage almost looked like a mini-theater. It’s truly unlike any other place I’ve visited before. Good, quick, and friendly service. Kind of calm, it seemed, for a live music venue. This was great as we got to actually hear each other talk. Plenty of tables and the venue was much larger than it initially appeared. Fantastic place for a classy night out.

Hands down the best bar in Boise. Great atmosphere. Mixed, friendly crowd. Lots of charm – from the original bar to the antique lighting, Pengilly’s feels like an old saloon. Consistently good music and unique, fun bar trivia. Heavy-handed bartenders know how to pour a drink. And it’s non-smoking.

My grandmother used to go to this bar when she was my age, and I doubt very much has changed. Cute little bar where you can have a chat with some friends or catch a local band.

Great little bar. Clientele seem fairly down to earth. Non-smoking, Didn’t care for the music the one time I was there during a show, but I think it was just because I wasn’t in the mood for music. If you want a good drink, but don’t care about any frilly bull-shit, this is the place.

Most of the bars around Downtown Boise are for younger adults, but Pengilly’s does well with all ages, but with a(generally) slightly older crowd. It’s almost the only bar my wife and I go to. The bar is non-smoking which is wonderful. They have entertainment every night and we have heard some great local AZ well as traveling bands here. It’s conveniently located on the east end of downtown on Main between 6th&5th.

I have always loved this place, it has an «old school» charm to it. They are now non-smoking which is a huge plus. I don’t think they ever charge a cover and they always have great music. Blues, folk, jazz, open mic etc… mainly local musicians… never been dissapointed when I go.

This place missed out on the fifth star, just because I’m old. They had a simply awesome western band Friday night, who were very competent, tight, and sounded great. With their 4 guitars, they put on a fantastic show for the 10 people in the audience. A walk down Main St, and every young person is out here either walking down it, or driving with the stereo up loooud. Half of them are wearing baseball caps, all are having a great time. As an old person I have the urge to tell someone«Don’t do anything I wouldn’t do». but I wouldn’t want to give them a chilling vision of their future.
