The first time I became aware of this shop’s existence, I was waiting to pick my girlfriend up from a show at the knitting factory. It was nighttime, and as I walked by, I was drawn to the beautiful pieces of art glass they had on display in the windows. I went in a couple weeks later to see their items in the light of day, and get a better look at what I’d glimpsed through the window. Some of the stuff in here is fairly pedestrian, but other pieces are magnificent. They are very knowledgeable about their products and will tell you about the artist who made the piece(s) you are interested in. I ended up purchasing a vase for my girlfriend and received a small bio about the artist in case I was interested in more of his work. They offered to wrap the piece(as it was a present), during which time I had a pleasant conversation with the woman behind the desk. A few weeks down the road, I received a hand-written thank you note. Top notch. I highly recommend this place if you are interested in art glass, jewelry, or other beautiful items.

I don’t often(ever) shop for fine jewelry, so I have little basis for comparison. However, I’ve had great experiences with R. Grey. The staff here is incredibly friendly. I had a limited budget with which to shop, and the clerk didn’t make me feel uncomfortable at all when I admitted that price was one of the most important considerations about what I bought. She helped me find pieces in my budget and took time to try to figure out what styles and designs I might like, and then led me through the inventory. She was patient and willing to let me try on whatever I liked and didn’t rush me at all. I ended up with a beautiful pair of silver hoop earrings. I didn’t feel like they had a huge variety of different styles of jewelry, but that’s probably because each gallery has a different personality. I also dislike that they do not do returns. You can exchange merchandise, but not return anything for a refund no matter how it was paid for or how soon you return it. That’s a little bit frustrating. I can understand not returning special pieces, but when they have ample inventory I think they should give money back. That said, it’s a wonderful gallery. It’s nice that they offer some glass lamps, pottery, and non-jewelry artwork that you can peruse if you’re looking for something sparkly in a different category. The space is bright, clean, and easy to navigate so you can see pretty much everything from the front of the store and don’t have to take forever figuring out where pieces are. I’d definitely recommend coming here for jewelry. The aesthetic here is streamlined and modern for the most part. I think they take commissions, and they’ve got a large number of artists represented. Prices start at high and go to higher, but that’s what allows for the quality of the pieces they sell.
