It’s a throwback to earlier times where denizens debate free cheese doled out by a certain President with a chimpanzee co– star. Tasty greasy spoon fare in a small hidden location. Try it!

The Chef’s Hut is a Boise landmark, I’m not sure how many years it has been here but I’ve been going for more than 20 so it has been here a while. The Chef’s Hut isn’t easy to see or find unless you know where it is at. It is tucked into the office complex at the corner of Cole and Franklin and even a little hidden once you get inside the complex, keep your eyes open! The food is diner delicious, greasy, good, and plentiful. Breakfast is definitely the best choice here. I’ve eaten lunch there many times and it is good but basic. Breakfast offers many choices and I’ve never had a bad meal. As other reviewers have mentioned, fastest service is at the counter, warmest seats are away from the windows. The reason I’m not giving them a full five stars is that the last few times I’ve gone their souls are really not very good. They’ve always been great and not charged me for them but they are in my opinion really not worth ordering. Be prepared for a bit of a wait, there is typically only one server in the restaurant so service is slow. You owe it to yourself to go here at least once and you’ll find yourself oddly compelled to come back when you just want a great chorizo omelette or biscuits and gravy. You aren’t a real Boisean until you’ve eaten here.

A Taiwanese breakfast shop like place. My friend came here a lot and brought me here. I was not surprised with my order. It was too oily and cheesy to me.

The Chef’s Hut – if you can find it! – is a mom & pop tiny breakfast & lunch spot. It’s staffed by about two people(the chef and a waitress), so if you’re looking to get in and out in a rush, sit at the bar top for quick service. They serve many breakfast comfort foods and offer some hearty lunch options as well. I love the homey feel and intimate tables. This kind of place is the type to have«regulars,» and that makes it even that much better. Food: They have a complete breakfast menu, offering scrambles, skillets, sandwiches, burritos, Benedicts, pastries, pancakes… the list goes on and on. I often eat oatmeal when eating breakfast out, and I really appreciate that Chef’s Hut offers both a «cup» and a «bowl» size options, as most breakfast joints don’t have that – and sometimes you don’t NEED4-servings of oatmeal all at once! You can also choose between several different toppings for your oats. Drinks: Endless coffee, yum! I like that they serve hand-spun milkshakes, though I have yet to try one. Atmosphere: It’s cozy in there! The tables are all pretty tight together, so it makes for a very intimate setting, whether you want it to be or not! We enjoyed breakfast and ended up chatting with the older couple next to us most of the time because our tables were sandwiched so close. But that’s all part of the experience! Sit in the back nook by the kitchen if you’re looking for a warm spot. Service: Due to limited staff on hand(the chef and a waitress), the service may be a little bit slow at times. But expect it! These guys work hard getting all the tables served/cleaned. I love how friendly the waitress was and how diligently she ensured our order was just perfect. Happy Hour Offerings: Daily specials, no «happy hour.» Healthy Hack: Try a cup of oats(which will be served in a bowl) and a la carte eggs. A great healthy option… and less than $ 5! Tips: Due to few staff, if you’re looking to get in and out in a rush, sit at the bar top for quick service. Sit in the back nook by the kitchen if you’re looking for a warm spot.

This is a good old fashioned diner. I ate their special which was the chili burger. Pretty good homemade chili, but the burger was surprisingly flavorful and completed the meal. It was a hearty portion too. My friend had the breakfast skillet which was packed with flavor and pleasant portion. Both foods created a home like atmosphere as you ate it. Service was excellent and location is a bit hidden but well worth the quest to find it! I need to come back to this place for breakfast,(although they serve breakfast at lunch too) without a doubt, that will be next.

This place really lives up to the term«Greasy spoon», but in the bad way. I had heard such good things that I was looking forward to trying it for breakfast. Big mistake. It’s not that it was soooo horrible. It just wasn’t good at all. I ordered a breakfast sandwich with hash browns. The hash browns were so greasy you could wring them out, and the same for my sandwich. I had to remove one of the muffins and eat it open faced because the bread was so greasy. I think that the eggs are powdered because they had no flavor at all. Even salt didn’t help. I’ve never had a «real» egg that was so tasteless. The atmosphere is fine for what it is. However, some reviewers stated that the prices are cheap, which I didn’t think was the case at all. You can have a much better breakfast for the same price elsewhere in town, have a better atmosphere, and order a bloody mary at the same time! I love a good greasy spoon, but this one is not it. Try The Capri downtown instead. Or better yet, cook yourself something at home.

Came in today and food was great as always. We’ve never sat at the bar so we decided to try it. One thing we noticed was that the busser was not using the scoop to poor ice in the glasses. Over and over he continued to use glasses to scoop. Having a restaurant background this is a no no, we hope the owner/manager addresses this please. Thank you! 4.5 stars on food!

It’s a cute lil spot. But it’s really hot in there I had the oatmeal bowl and it was ok it wasn’t hot it was more like warm and very sticky, not what I expect it to be. My daughter had the pancake and it was good a bit greasy flavor. Coffee was great was hot and strong. Services was good the waitress very nice and attentive. When we arrive there was at least 4 tables dirty and 4 tables in use so that pretty much left us to sit at the bar. Overall I will try it again to see how there lunch is.

Update: decided to go for a cup of coffee and a cinnamon roll today. I went a half hour before they closed. I was the only customer and the waitress there are asked me what I wanted to drink. When I said coffee she said they didn’t have any brewed and if I wanted coffee I would have to drink more than one cup because they were so close to closing.(Half an hour???). I said I would probably drink at least two cups but she just asked if I wanted something else. When I said no and I would just go somewhere else she asked if I was sure. I said I didn’t want to put her out and so she offered me water again. Duh. I don’t want water! Sorry but your 3 star rating just went down to 2 stars for terrible customer service. The only reason I don’t knock it down to one star is that my previous experience was really good. No excuse for a coffee shop to do that. That’s what happens when you leave kids in charge. So sad. :-(my business ended up at the Capri, so your loss.

Was not my cup of tea — coffee sucks here. I got«the standard» and asked for my eggs over medium and they were super under cooked. Everything tasted like butter and I’m not a big fan of butter, staff was very friendly and kind. Service was great, location is weird and the restaurant is very cramped and a bit cluttered. My husband wants to try the Reuben since he’s on a hunt for the best in Boise and he still believes that 13th Street in Hyde Park has the best Reuben — willing to try one more time for lunch — our bill for two of us was $ 22.00.

I just randomly found this place. It’s off the road in a strip mall and hard to see from the road. But the service is very friendly and the food delicious. I came for breakfast and it was fast and fresh! I’ll certainly come again!

Had to stop at the Boise Honda dealership for minor repairs on our trip and was directed to The Chef’s Hut for breakfast. This is a small hole-in-the-wall place, but the food is good. They are at the very rear of a small business park, but they make fun of that with their sign out front and their menu. Prices are reasonable and the service is quick.

We were visiting from California and were looking for a quick but good breakfast and couldn’t have been happier. Food was great, the service was quick and very friendly. I would definitely recommend coming here for breakfast!

Wasn’t sure what to think of this place at first. Bizarre location hidden in an office complex. Definitely a low-rent dive. But if Guy Fieri says dives are the in thing, they must be the in thing, right? Surprisingly, the food was pretty good. Nothing fancy, just your average American food, but with that dive cook charm, if you know what I mean. I won’t go into trying to describe what I’ve eaten here, mainly because I don’t remember it all(mostly breakfasts, though). Just go and try it for yourself, if anything just to say you’ve been there. And yes, the coffee is crap so I had iced tea or water.

Great small breakfast restaurant. They have amazing omelets and some good twists on classics like coconut French toast. It is definitely more of a dive diner with outdated furnishings but in many ways they lend to the feel a place like this is going for. For American breakfast foods this place is hard to beat in boise. Their prices are very good for the quantity you receive. The staff is very small but they produce quick and friendly service. Definitely worth a try if your in the mood for a classic American breakfast that isn’t an IHOP.

The Chef’s Hut is definitely a hole-in-the-wall, greasy-spoon or whatever you want to call it. The location is hard to find(in the middle of a business park) and décor is just… unexplainable. Let’s just say we sat next to the restaurant’s «office» — filing cabinets and a desk squished against the wall. Not the best ambiance but the food was good enough to make up for it. The Chef’s Hut has great omelets and the portions are plenty big. Service was speedy and efficient.

Loyal customer! This is a greasy spoon breakfast joint… Don’t expect fine china and frills here. Expect blow-up SPAM beach balls(find it & win a prize)… ‘The Works’ omelet and a side of bacon, plus cup-a-coffee! Every time. It’s great! Love it!(Service is hit-and-miss but usually pretty dependable.)

The Chef’s Hut is a cozy, tucked-away breakfast joint that is located in an industrial park. It’s certainly not the nicest place around, but you get a sense that they’re making the best of what they have and actually really enjoy what they’re doing. Their coffee is always being served and never late for a refill. The coffee isn’t very strong and is pretty generic, but you can still get a good caffeine fix because they come around and try to get you drunk and jittery every 3 – 5 minutes with it – my kind of place. They have a fantastic selection of foods. I’ve had everything from a skillet, burrito, omelet, classic-style breakfast(over-medium eggs, hash-browns, sausage, ham), pancakes, french toast, and I’ve been completely satisfied every time. The breakfast burrito is my favorite; for less than $ 6 it will get you full and it actually tastes pretty good. That’s another thing – they have fantastic prices and consistent service that will keep drawing you back. The atmosphere is always pretty varied inside; I’ve seen many eat here from the college kid to the elderly folk. I’m not going to try to impress a date by taking them here. But to be honest, this is probably my restaurant of choice. It’s close. It’s fast. It’s cheap, and it’s good. What else could you really want?

I’ve lived in the area almost 20 years but haven’t heard of this place till recently. It’s one of the best kept secrets with the locals. After I found out about it, I also heard from several ol’timers that they’ve been coming here for years, specially for the breakfast. They don’t have the best location, in a business park. They also don’t have the best hours, closing at 2:00. When you come to the entrance you wonder if you’re in the right place and if their open. Since it’s in a building made for business, not restaurants, the setup is a little weird, but the food more than makes up for it. The only reason they didn’t get five stars is because of the location and facilities. I’ve only been here a few times but the service is always excellent. The waitress always meets me with a smile and promptly asks what I like to drink. After a few minutes she’s back for the order. My first visit I had the Country Scramble. I had low expectations. The food looked good when it arrived but tasted absolutely delicious. Everything was fresh and cooked just the way grandma would. I’m from out East and have been searching for breakfast fixed like they do here. My second visit I had a hamburger. It would blow away the burger at any of the other local hamburger joints. It was a little overcooked, but that’s my fault. I didn’t say I wanted it cooked medium, not well done. Again all the ingredients was fresh, which I think makes the difference. Their fries are the best I’ve had from a restaurant. These are fresh potatoes fried on the spot for you. I kept eating and eating the fries and was disappointed when I noticed they were gone. I could come here just for the fries. Today I had the special, chili and corn bread. Like I said I’m from the East and you don’t find many places with corn bread. The chili was very good and the corn bread as well. I never had chili with so much ground beef. I wasn’t sure I’d like it after the first few bites, but it was very good. I cleaned the bowl out completely. If you’re looking for a good country cooking, this is the place. If you’re looking for healthy, low fat food, you won’t find much here. No, I’m not paid to write this like some do. I just think this under looked place deserves a break, specially because of their yummy food. So I wrote this longer than normal review.
