Cheapest and best food in town. Always welcoming and great people. I’m simple and am a pretty plain eater but my friends all rave about the carne asada burritos.

The prices here are the best for the budget minded and the food is good. Salsas are fresh made, décor improved. Plenty of seating and on a really hot day, good to get inside to eat. Had huevos rancheros, and though the plate looked like one big soupy, stew-like mess of ranchero sauce, melted cheese, and overly mashed up beans — the flavor was good. I had the chicken tacos another day, tasty, but again the guacamole on top was a little soupy. It sounds like a bad review, but I like the place and wouldn’t hesitate to go back again the next time I’m in Borrego Springs.

Not a great meal, but adequate. I had the chili verde dinner. It was pretty bland. What saved it were the excellent salsas they had. They don’t serve any alcohol so I got my meal to go and pulled a beer from my ice chest. Between the beer and their salsa covered chili verde, I came away satisfied but not impressed.

Better taco shop Mexican food would be hard find anywhere. One«go to» places every time we are in Borrego Springs. Unassuming, has seats, but love to get as takeout. Salsas appear to be house made and the Pico is my favorite. The pastor is superbly done and with an excellent heat level. I don’t recall ever seeing that phony ‘guacamole here.

Love this Mexican food chain! First time having this place was in riverside and I believe they have one in Redlands as well. Favorite thing is their California burrito with French fries in them and the carne asada fries! Their green sauce is also delish. Definitely stopping by here the next time I come back after a long hike or camping.

This isn’t the world’s best taco shop but it is exactly what you need when you come back from a long day of hiking in the desert. They have a ton of your standard options at really good prices. Burritos are huge(in a normal way).

When summer temperatures reach 100ºF, a spicy, delicious taco really could cure the heat. I ordered a couple of tacos to eat, and the salsa was just underwhelming. The meat was so-so, with the carnitas definitely on the dry side. I guess this is what you get when there isn’t a whole lot of choice? I suppose this it not bad for a taco place in a desolate town. But then, we are in SoCal, how can we even get a meh taco around here?

Oh how I love going here for a burrito in the morning before a long motorcycle ride. I live in Chicago but come to Borrego Springs once or twice per year to ride, and I always start my day with a tasty plate of great Mexican food. The people are wonderful and the food is authentic and delicious. Go and enjoy!

This restaurant pumps out some fine food at bottom line prices! I enjoyed the chile verde and Sofie went for the carnitas plate. My chile verde has a spicy sauce and went well with the rice and beans. Sofie’s carnitas was tasty and a little dry — but it usually is. It came with a very nice salad that included glock and a rough cut portion of onion/tomato/cilantro. There is nothing fancy about this Mexican restaurant. It was hot and uncomfortable inside — but pleasant outside. They do not have beer or wine — but you could pick up your meal here, your quart of beer and leg it to the park which is at the end of the street.(Wish I would have thought of that at the time!)

We happened to see Los Jilbertos opened on Saturday morning for breakfast. I am vegan so I opted for the bean burrito. It was so good. They also had pickled carrots I have never had those before but quickly became a fan. If we are ever back that way this is a must do.

Food was mediocre. Ordered the carnitas burrito, bland taste more like stewed meat. Large quantity. Tables were clean but restroom was inconvenient and dingy. Outdoor dining could not be enjoyed due to flies and bees.

Went here this morning for my fav. Pollo Asada burrito. This is their trade mark burrito if you ask me. It is big enough for Two ! I’ve been to all of the«family owned» Jilberto’s and this burrito is consistently Excellent. Also try their pineapple or Mango fountain drink.(non carbonated & not too sweet). Only Unilocaler who would give them a poor review must not like Mexican food. Or they are bitter at the world in general & I’m sure reflected in their other reviews. I on the other hand Unilocal«Before» I dine. Hence my reviews are typically high. As a native San Diegan & know Mexican food critic, I feel Jilberto’s is easily one of the best Mexican fast food places in San Diego county. That’s why they have managed to grow to 9(or more) locations. BTW, all family owned.

This place earned their one-star rating. My wife ordered the two tacos place and the meat was tough as leather. Rice was bland. Only good thing on her plate was the beans. I had carnitas burrito. It was not great. The guacamole overpowered everything and not in a good way. The best part was the bottled water. That hit the spot.

Went here after riding our bikes from The Springs at Borrego RV Park. Solid Mexican food at cheap prices. Had the chili relenos plate. Excellent choice of salsas and pico de gallo. Would definitely come here again.

Fast Food At its Finest in Borrego Springs. Lots of seating inside with a few tables outside as well. Food is not bad with a great selection to choose from. There’s also a nice selection of ice cream if your so inclined. The fried fish tacos are big and tasty and my favorite. The pork tacos are also tasty. They have two sizes of tacos, Street Tacos, and Large Tacos. The Street Tacos are the way to go. So full of meat and double tortillas make it easy to make two tacos out of each one. A good value for the money. There is a small salsa bar with plenty condiments to pour on your tacos. The selection of other items to choose from has something for everyone. This place is a 3 ½ star fast food place with above average food, and good service. Enjoy

Typical casual fast-food Mexican restaurant, which is just what I was looking for. Plenty of seating inside and more out front on the covered patio. They take orders for in-house and to-go. There was a steady stream of customers, both tourists and locals. I ordered the #8 Combo, 2 Carne Asada Tacos with Rice & Beans. The portions were large and the meal was filling. The food was good and the taco shells were slightly toasted, which I liked. I’ll stop here again.

Place it’s really inviting like most Mexican food place :) the burrito size are perfect for the price the only thing I wish they dint add too much veggies and not a lot of meat next time I’ll try something else either way it was good. Possible next time stop for brks/brunch/dinner… A place is good when u see lots of customers Enjoy it

Reasonable prices, reasonable food. I ordered the fish taco plate. All was good. Fried fish, white sauce, cabbage, a couple of slices of lime, came with rice and beans, good portions. Also ordered a large horchata, which was pretty much a run-of-the-mill horchata, but was quite large, fantastic for running around in the desert. They also have a small salsa bar with several kinds of salsa and those yummy pickled carrots that many Mexican restaurants have. This is one of the few restaurants in this tiny town that are open in the summer, along with Carlee’s across the street, so the fact that they serve decent Mexican food is cool.
